Who, besides me, is totally digging this version on the Rumours re-issue? I find myself constantly humming it every day!!! I think it sounds very unique and different from Stevie's other stuff, the sound and flow is just amazing. It got me to thinking about Lindsey's comment in "Performing Songwriter" concerning what he loves most about Stevie's songwriting: "her sense of rhythm". I think this statement is proven in this song, the rhythm of the vocal is just amazing!!

Any thoughts?

Any thoughts? I think it's really interesting that it's in triple meter. That's uncommon for Stevie. Fleetwood Mac seems to be winging it throughout much of the song. I guess the song's arrangement hadn't been totally hammered into place when this was recorded.

I still think "Butter Cookie" is the best thing on there -- the best thing I've ever heard by Fleetwood Mac, in fact.

I love this version of Planets of the Universe too. I keep listening to it over and over again. I just has a different feel to it than some of Stevie's other songs.

It's pretty good, but I can see why they didn't use it for Rumours.

I like it, especially the do-do-do part at the end, but I prefer the demo with just her and the piano. That vocal is amazing.

I LOVE it! But I can totally see what Stevie meant when she said that FM could never really figure out what to do w/ it. I love the original demo and I also love the TISL version (thank you, John Shanks!). But, I ALSO love the remixes - I cranked up that CD on Saturday while I was vacuuming! LOL

I absolutely love this song, in any form. It's one of Stevie's best, lyrically, imo. Even the "mean" verse.

I'd rate the "extended album version" from the maxi-single, as the best version... then the original piano demo second, and the 'Rumours' bonus disc version third.

It's a brilliant song in any form, but I think the 'TISL' version approach was the absolute best. :)

I also have a demo with a synth playing. I cannot tell the era, but it sounds like RAL maybe. That version is pretty cool, but nowhere near the TISL one.

She could WHISTLE the dang song and I would love that version! LOL I just adore this song in ANY form. I started tearing up when listening to the Rumours bonus disk version. I'm a goober, sue me.

I love listening to the Tracy Young remix....that sucker KICKS and I usually HATE and DESPISE remixes! 10 minutes of greatness!!

My faves are the Rumours version and the extended album version. The Rumours one is greatness. I'm in love with it. The piano demo? Not so much. For the most part, I don't like the piano demos.

Yeah, I'm thinking it doesn't "fit" on the album because it's more complex musically than the other songs. It's definitely different.

I don't think I like the "big production" sound of the TISL version. I prefer the intimacy of the re-issue version. I think it's absolutely beautiful.

Except for the Sisters of the Moon piano demo right? That gives me chills, it's probably my most favorite version of any song she's ever done. I know, grand claim....

I totally agree. I am not a big fan of over-production.

I love this version, but I also like the passion in the piano demo.

I miss the "I still wish you gone, and I will live alone" from the piano demo. Why didn't she include it on this version? That is one of my most favorite lyrics in the song!

Stevie's rhythm and vocal timing in general is one of the many reasons I love her so much. Moves me to pieces...gives me shivers. Totally unique. Whether it's due to musical naivete or not...I don't really care. It's wonderful.

I love the piano version of planets of the universe, it is just one of those songs that you dont have to try to remember- you just do. It's got so much emotion in that version that obviously relects feelings at the time she recorded and you can just feel it as every word is sung. The cd version cant mimic that, the song though all glam'd up sounds great, i love what John did with it, though the piano version to me never leaves my mind, its a haunting song.

Thanks. I'll P.M. you my email address.

By happy accident, I downloaded The Sisters of the Moon piano demo from, I think audiognome, but I could be wrong. Like I said, I stumbled upon it and now I don't know where it is! That reminds me, I really need to clean out my files....

Interestingly, the intimacy in the demo on the re-issue more likely than not would not have been on any final product. I mean Rumors is great, but it is glossy and has a big sound. Food for Thought!

What if they changed the sequencing (I know, sacrilege) so that the three least produced sounding songs were together: Songbird, NGBA, and the piano POTU? It worked for the last two songs on Say You Will. More food for thought.

OMG, I'd gag if they had released the piano demo for POTU on Rumours. it would be the only song that I'd skip on a perfect album. She has a pretty voice on it, but a piano player she ain't. ;) Now, if they had released the SOTM piano demo on Tusk, I'd be a satisfied customer.

Stevie is, but she does it amazingly well. For once she doesn't sound like a five year old who had too much chocolate and was let loose in their aunts piano room. ;) It's one of her best demos available.

Not sure I understand the chocolate reference. You can call Stevie's playing simplistic, but it hardly sounds hyper to me.

 It sounds like she's just pounding on the piano for no apparent reason to these ears. Simplistic is an understatement. Those piano demos were at their worst in the seventies, which is why I'm shocked that the SOTM one is so amazing.

Funny how her five year old playing works for her demo purposes though. I've always thought that Stevie does AMAZINGLY well creating songs with such skeletal demos. It's almost awe inspiring.
