View Full Version : If You Could Spend A Day In Any Stevie Video World Scene, Which One Would You Choose?

I think I'd pick the Depression-era Gypsy, history buff that I am.
Stevie looks amazing in Hold Me, but who the hell wants to be in a desert?
If Anyone Falls is cool, but all the spinning would get annoying after awhile.
Little Lies would be nice if I didn't have to smell the horses. Every Day would be nice if I brought bug spray. (Hi, Marissa:wavey: )

I really adore Gypsy and I LOVE the nightclub scene. It's just so incredibly hot. You can dance with Stevie, I'll dance with Lindsey (I want to wear that black dress and run out in the rain  ). I really love the whole atmosphere of Every Day though so it's a tough call. I definately don't want to be on the Stand Back treadmill  However, the Civil War version of that video might be cool. I suppose I'll go wherever you are not hanging out :wavey: ;)

Ooooooh - good one, Jake!

I'd have to say Stand Back, pretty much cuz I really wanna walk on the treadmill in platform boots with my chiffon blowing around in the breeze. Oh, wait, those weird dancers who keep popping up & jerking their bodies around might freak me out too much.

I wouldn't mind being in the Sorcerer vid, just hanging, writing poetry, playing guitar, wearing fabulous clothes...I'll be Sheryl!

Well, it'd have to be the enchanted forest from the "Gypsy" video. It doesn't get any better than that. With Stevie dancing all around me throwing glitter dust in my hair. Or hanging out with Chris and Lindsey on the forest ground, listening to them jam while smelling the sweet scent of doobie smoke. :D

I'm with Joe!!!

I would've LOVED to be dancing and laughing around in the Enchanted Forrest, being showered with "gold dust"...wearing that beautiful ivory dress and having my hair flying every which way.

Either that, on the carousel in "If Anyone Falls"

The Gypsy video, just because there are a bunch of cool little worlds to visit there. The nightclub would be cool (or hot, depending on what Marissa says  ), and the forest scene would be fun, and perhaps even a little bizzare.

The Sorcerer video looks like a home being made over. I coiuldn't take it.
I like the Stand Back scene with her spinning her shawl in the spotlight. But that might get old for twenty-four hours.

The 40s Gypsy nightclub. Lindsey looks so hot in those 40s clothes and hopefully the Stevie-esque 40s dress would look good on me, too! lol And when I get tired of dancing I can have champagne with Chris and John. Nice!

I'd probably want to be in Stevie's room, the nightclub, the rainy street, and the enchanted forest in Gypsy. You'll notice I left out the depression era part...cuz I don't think that would all that fun with John chronically whiping his nose and Mick staring at me.

Mick's like that loser kid in high school that always had to find some reason to take his shirt off to show his sad excuse for bisceps. Striptease II? Please, one was enough. If there were only a few people left on Earth and Mick was the only man, I might seriously have to contemplate becoming a lesbian. Or, much like Stevie, he'd have to get me drunk. A lot. A whole lot. Hm. In spite of being a Stevie girl, I found my decision hinged on Lindsey's Hair. :) Do I go with "Gypsy" and touch his beautiful 1982 curls, or do I go with something from *Tango In The Night* and investigate the bizarre conical hair he had then?

Eventually I had to pick "Little Lies." Men with beautiful curls may come and go, but horses are forever.

Personally, I'd choose to be on stage with her on the Whole Lotta Trouble video.

I WAS there! Well, not literally on stage, but I was in the audience!! They filmed it in Houston, right after the concert.

I'd have to go for the night club in Gypsy. I just love that whole era anyway.

I haven't seen the Gypsy video the Enchanted Forest that you are all on about but it sounds fabulous!

I would have to choose the Edge of Seventeen, Red Rocks where she meets and greets the audience at the end, she looks like she is really having so much fun there, and the venue is just awesome

I actually know a place in Austin that is very similar to the cliff/enchanted forest scene in Gypsy, especially during the late late Fall when the leaves finally change colors (and last that way for a whopping 3 days...). The cliff even faces North, so the sun sets perfectly in the fantasy scene. (I know there's not really a sunset in the video, it just adds to the whole thing.)

I'd pick Rooms on Fire, though. I'd love to be the guy dancing with Stevie on the surface of the pool water. OR, sitting on the couch in the living room in front of a roaring fire, watching her play with the tassels on that awesome floor lamp for hours on end.

A friend of mine actually had a "stalker-like" video some guys had shot where they videotaped themselves driving up the road to the house (or "castle", as Stevie calls it) where she shot the video and recorded the Mirror album. It was the same road that her lover in the video drives up as she's standing on the balcony. After watching it, all I could say was, "Man, did the art director and cinematographer make that dump look like a palace or what???" The house and grounds themselves were nice enough, but the surrounding neighborhood was NOT. Potholes in the road, poorly kept houses and yards along the way, and an endless procession of those small trash dumpsters all the way up, right on the side of the road.

It's great exercise Jake--it works your arms, your thighs, calves, butt--everything. But it will also put a hurting on you like you've never had in your life. I haven't ridden now in several years--I've got pretty bad arthritis and it's just too jarring for my joints/bones. I really miss it. (And no, while it may sound like I'm 100, I'm actually still in my thirties--I was diagnosed with arthritis at the age of 29.)

And after giving it some more thought, I'd be okay with the Hold Me video too, despite the desert scenes--it's based on the art of Rene Magritte--my favorite artist. I remember reading though that a sand storm came up while they were shooting that video and they ended up having to shoot some of the scenes in the studio. I think it was maybe Christine's part? It's been too long for me to remember all the details, but that was such a cool video.

Livia, I can't remember the name of the park/springs, but they're the ones that are a few miles northwest of the 2222/Loop 360 intersection, about halfway between the intersection and the Arboretum area. (The springs END at the intersection of 2222 & Loop 360, where there's a park & a little dam. Any idea what I'm talking about?)

Anyway, there are all sorts of hiking trails surrounding the beginning of the springs, where there is a quite large waterfall & a couple of 10-ft deep natural swimming pools. If you take the trails from the beginning of the springs, you wind up on top of the ridge, overlooking the waterfall.

On top of the ridge, there are several man-made trails (not officially marked) that head basically due west. My friend Kevin & I found the cliff area after a mile or so...

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I haven't lived in Austin for more than 3 years, and describing directions on a hiking trail is a little more difficult than I had imagined when I started typing this reply. Especially Austin trails, where there really aren't any landmarks. "You know -- you take a right at the big limestone rock..." :p

If you decide to be adventurous and go looking, keep a lookout for rattlesnakes. We saw several off the main trail. Plus, some of this area is a nature preserve for some type of endangered Hill Country bird. It was pretty clearly marked, but I still felt a little guilty for straying off the main trail (but in the end, glad I did...)

Happy hiking!

I found it! Once I saw darklinen's post, I knew I had to do something, because I don't want anyone to think the area I'm talking about is Hippie Hollow. I've been to HH many times, and trust me when I say that you DO NOT want to go exploring the bushes there, unless you like being followed around by and possibly molested by naked old men. But if that's your thing, then more power to you -- just make sure to take plenty of suntan lotion, condoms and wet-naps. ;)

The place I'm describing is ... <drum roll> ... The Bull Creek Greenbelt and District Park.

I found some maps:

http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/parkmaps/images/trails_bull_creek_lower.jpg

http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/vol18/issue44/pols.bullcreek.carte.html

In the first map, the entrance is shown by a little red icon showing 2 hikers (the icon closest to the center of the map). The trailhead with the waterfall (mentioned in my earlier post) is right there, on the northwest side of 360 (aka Cap. of Tx Hwy aka Loop 360 aka whatever-they're-calling-it-this-week). The green section is the "designated trail" area. But like I said, we went west/northwest from the top of the ridge -- and you can see this area in grey in the second map, which is called the Balcones Canyonland Preserve.

And -- one more time -- watch out for rattlers! Especially this time of year when they're just waking up and are very hungry and looking to mate...

My preference for a Stevie video world to live in would probably be the 'Rooms On Fire' video. I'd love to explore the nooks and crannies of that awesome huge house and sit by the pool at night, also i think I'd flip the tassels on the lamp every single time I passed by it. Another thing i'd probably do is have a great huge party (as Stevie says, "the one party that you absolutely HAVE to go to") and sit on a plush sofa alone with a few graceful fingers lazily tucked under my chin just like she did...

Has anyone ever picked out anyone from that party scene as people from Stevie's real-life world (assistants, producers, musicians, etc?) or were they all actors?

One of these days the guy is going to show up on stage with it all buzzed off.

Ugh. Here's hoping the pain eases up.

I went once with a group of friends...

Yeah, I'll never forget being told that it's the lovliest view of the lake, the sunset is so beautiful, you have to go, you have to see this place yaddah, yaddah, yaddah....

Overrated!! The drinks were small and watered down too!

Speaking of water, I paid for water there once...$5.00!!!
And the first time I was there was in the '96 drought, so the view looked gross.

Let's see...
It's a schlep out there.
The service is mediocre.
The drinks are overpriced.

No hurry. I can find that here.

Schlep indeed. We're talking BFE. And there's usually a REALLY long walk to and from the car. I just love gravel in my shoes, don't you?

Oooh, okaaay, Bull Creek, yes I've been there. But it's also a bit of a pervy hangout. They were running sting operations there a few years ago....there's another cool greenbelt area near Barton Creek Mall, but no "Gypsy" cliffs. LOL

And yes, the Oasis is a rip-off. However, it is still a cool place to take your Grandmother in your friend's convertible. Food and drinks have always sucked there. Regardless of the "new chef" they seem to hire annually. I used to date a guy who had a sailboat. We spent a LOT of time at Windy Point, before they ruined it, and we'd stop by the Oasis on our way home, just for the sunset.

From what I remember, renting the place was expensive, and the guests were spread into different rooms. Guys who gave toasts had to stand between the rooms and were still barely visible, and the food sucked.
Take away clear weather & the sunset & there's nothing there.

If I had to choose, it would be a close tie between the forest scene in the "Gypsy" music video and the courtyard scene from the "Everyday" video (I say this because I think it would be interesting to see Stevie try to balance on those rocks with those birds all around her...good times). I'd probably go with the "Gypsy" forest scene though.

Most artists do not have these fantasy worlds in each of their music videos -- I think we're really lucky that the majority of Stevie's videos deal with imaginary themes such as these.

 More reason to love her...

I'd like to be in GYPSY, in the scenes of the 40s. Stevie looks beautiful in black, and dancing with Lindsey.

I'd like to appear also in As long as you follow, maybe at one of the hotel windows
