JJ Jackson Has Died

(March 18, 2004) JJ Jackson, one of the early MTV jocks and long-time Los Angeles Radio People, died last night of an apparent heart attack while driving home from dinner.

JJ worked afternoon drive when he arrived at KLOS from WBCN-Boston in 1969. He spent a decade there. Later in the 1980s, JJ worked at KDAY, KWST, KROQ and KMPC/fm, which later became KEDG ("The Edge"). In late 1994, JJ began hosting "The Beatle Years," a syndicated series airing on 200 stations nationwide. He spent many years at Westwood One. He had returned to KLOS in 2000 to host "The Seventh Day." Most recently, JJ worked afternoon drive at KTWV, "The WAVE."

I grew up with MTV. JJ Jackson was one of my favorite VJ's. This makes me sad.

Rest in peace, JJ. At least you outlived the days of MTV showing videos.:distress:

I heard this morning that he had passed away. I can't believe he was 62...I'll always think of him as being 40-something.

J.J, Martha, Mark, Nina and Alan were such a part of my childhood...and NOTHING compared to MTV back then...THEN it was about music and videos and I remember concerts they used to show on weekend nights...REO Speedwagon, Journey, Styx...(major flashback happening here:laugh: )...now MTV is a shell of it's former self...such a shame.

Anyway, RIP J.J

I used to LISTEN to JJ Jackson for seemingly 20 years before MTV...he used to be my favorite DJ on KLOS-FM here in LA. Then AFTER his stint at MTV, he came back to the LA airwaves on "The Edge"...a short lived free-form radio station.

Time marches on.
