For those that have heard it, the ending of the new "demo" of GDW is exactly the same and the ending of IYEDB. Could it be the two songs are connected or even the same al la Enchanted and Destiny, which she has said are sort of part of one big poem. Also, the songs sound very similar and you can actually sing "You've left me now and its seasoned my soul" to this.

I am so confused now

I really like it. I mean its GDW and IYEDB together!

Here's where I'm confused. GDW is supposedly about Lindey while she's said IYEDB is about Mick. How does that go together?

I never read that GDW was about LB. In the 1997 video of their BTM, Stevie says GDW was a little bit about drugs and somewhere else she said she was the GDW. Also, GDW was written around the time of SOTOM during the White Album tour.

Hmm...so maybe it's about Mick.

I'm pretty sure she has come out and said that it was about Lindsey or at least alluded to it. But c'mon...you'd have to be round the bend to NOT know that it was about Lindsey. And as far as IYEDB is concerned...I never bought the BS that it was about Mick

The chorus is most definitely about Lindsey:

Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusion of love
And is it over now
Do you know how
To pick up the pieces and go home

I can't imagine that being about anything else than those two splitting up, especially if it is true that Stevie was the one to end the relationship (as the RUMOUR suggests).

The most compelling piece of evidence for me is the fact that these were written BEFORE the affair with Mick took place. I would assume the "lover" she is talking about is Mr. Lindsey Buckingham based on that alone (although I suppose one could argue for Don Henley, I think it's a BIG stretch, since HE left HER.)

Here's my theory

GDW was originally written with the "Baby, don't leave me" part from IYEDB. For some reason, they decided to drop it out of the song. Then, many moons later, Stevie wrote IYEDB and added the "Baby, don't leave me" to the end of it, just as it had been on GDW.

Make sense?

Exactly what I was thinking. Also, the less defiant "baby don't leave me" IMO does not fit in with the defiance and sadness of the scarier Rumors cut, although I think it works in the demo.

I think it might be interesting if she started singing it this way live and got real wild with the "baby don't leave me part." Just for a little change of pace maybe?
