E! had a special on last night at midnight called "Starved: The High Price of Fame" where they talked about the weight issue in Hollywood and the various methods used to shed pounds. They talked about the top three diets in Hollywood (The Zone, Atkins, Macro-Biotic). When they got to the Atkins, they mentioned Stevie as a follower and showed a TISL-era videoclip of her wearing the Italian widow dress. Besides for the dress, she looked *fantastic* and I've never seen the clip before; it looked like it was some kind of movie premiere or awards show.

Like I said, she probably had just come from a Mob funeral.
I'm going to check out TV Guide online to see if it's going to air again.

Oh, I saw that a while ago. Stevie must have a lot of will power. I can't go three hours without carbs!

I am on the Atkins diet and we do eat carbs so Stevie is fine. It is not a no carb diet it is a low carb diet and when you get to Mainteanance which I am sure Stevie is on you can add in whole grain bread, oatmeal, brown rice and the occasional potato. So dont worry she is still eating carbs and it most likely healthier now than ever. I would really like to see this special though and will have to when they replay it again.

Yeah, I was on Atkins, too. It's so expensive, though.
The first two weeks (ketosis) was pure torture. I dreamed of food, my friend. I licked my TV when pizza commercials aired. One time I ordered a burger, took a bite and spit it out just so I could taste it. I did it for about six months with very little carbs, but then worked in some. I still keep it at a minimum by buying everything labeled "low carb."

That's "benign ketosis" to you buddy  I did the Atkins thing - my doctor told me my kidneys were failing from lack of carbs. Now, I just eat half of whatever I am given and snack twice a day on raw vegtables and I am fine.

Hello again everyone. Yeah I buy some of the low carb stuff myself. That carb smart ice cream is really good but I have upped my carbs considerably because I workout all the time. I am still doing atkins but really enjoy being able to eat oatmeal all the time now for breakfast and totally love the low carb bread.
I have heard that some people have the kidney problems while on Atkins but I thought it had something to do with not drinking enough water. I remember reading that when you are on atkins you need to drink a ton of water which I always do anyway but I hope you are ok.

Thanks - I am fine. I am not dissing the diet. If it works for someone - bully for them. I just have found it easier to eat less and not cut anything out, wlthough even I still opt out of "bad" carbs like processed potatoe chips when possible. But, I will still eat a plain baked potatoe and I LOVE raw potatoes.

You have to drink LOTS of water, Jason. LOTS. At the height of my Atkins frenzy, I was drinking almost two gallons a day. The more water you drink while on the diet, the better you will benefit and the more weight you'll lose. I drink lots of water anyways, so it wasn't very hard for me to do.
Two things that you can't even touch while on Atkins is alcohol and soda. Those will kill you.

I even quit boozing it up and reduced my beloved Diet Coke (no carbs) to one a day from like three a day. I even quit smoking. Let's just say I was hungry and having nicotine fits. I was not a pleasant person to be around  Now, I only sometimes smoke when I have cocktails, which is not that often anymore as cocktails are just empty calories and if I have more than two, I cannot resist the carb/fat fest called MCDonald's at two in morning!!!!!! Getting old sucks!!!!!

There's no way I'd ever be strong enough to do atkins...the thought makes me shudder haha...I love my carbs!

I've been off of it for quite some time and I still keep loosing weight. Of course I only eat a meal a day and I drink a lot of water and work out so obviously that's going to have an impact. When I was on Atkins, I felt as though I didn't want to eat at all. It just really supressed my food intake... I found myself just drinking all of the time. However, it does work.

I saw that E! clip, it looked like the Blockbuster Awards red carpet. Lots of those pics are floating around on Ebay.
And Atkins? Moi? Never! I adore pasta and bread waaay too much! I'm more of a low-fat, high protein, very little red meat (although I love it), vitamin-popping kinda gal.

I tried atkins a few times, and this time it seems to be really working better..I never get bored..and it's working out great. I feel better than ever, and have tons of energy...Induction (ketosis) was a breeze this time around...There's really so many more options these days...
Today I went to Burger King..got 2 bacon cheeseburgers, threw the buns away, and had a great meal...I had steak and salad w/ ranch for dinner... im lovin it

Well the Atkins diet is getting some very bad press over here right now with reports of people becoming very ill whilst on it. And added to the fact Dr Atkins was obese when he died it has been predicted the craze for this diet will soon pass

God, is there ANYONE who is actually TRYING to gain weight these days like me? I know I shouldn't complain because I get to eat whatever I want, whenever I want, but I can't put on a pound to save my life. I'm so sick of being skinny, which most of you will hate me for, which is the main reason I'm so sick of being skinny. And I'm talking SKINNY. But most people make comments thinking that it's no big deal...you can call someone skinny all you want, but don't call someone fat. Well folks, the insults work both ways. No, it's not fun whenever someone walks up to you and asks if you are bulemic (that's when I found out what Calista Flockhart goes through all the time). Anyway, sorry for my side tangent.

See, I just don't understand why someone would say something like that to you.
Sure, you're thin, but when we met, I thought you were a great weight. "Just right" as they say.
You most certainly do not look emaciated the way Calista Flockhart and Lara Flynn Boyle do.
But I can definitely relate to what you're going thru. I graduated from high school, at 17 years of age, weighing 125lbs.
I HATED being skinny, and I hated people talking about how skinny I was!
These days I realize I took my flat little tummy WAY too much for granted, and I want it back! *WAAH*
*lol*
Seriously though... my advice to you, Justin, is to just eat healthily and exercise, and let your body do its thing.
Some people starve themselves literally to death, to be thin, and while I'm not negating your situation (like I said, I've been there myself), I just want you to know that being thin isn't your problem... it's only a problem for the people who make you feel that it is (out of jealously, most likely).

Really? I was wondering about the wraps.. I have been on a low carb health cereal some what diet. I eat it for breakfast and lunch and I have lost 22 pounds in 4 months. Which is good because it works with me to loose slow and then I keep it off easier....
I think it depends on the indivaul.. They have to find the right med for them...

It's beginning to get some bad press over here as well....I'm not knocking it or anyone on it....but I am just disturbed by any "diet" that requires you to take either a whole or large chunk of one of the food groups...that's just me though....and it apparently is working well for some of you...and my thing is this: Do what works best for you! I finally just stopped listening to everyone and did what I thought would do well for me...and it worked...I dropped ten pounds and have managed to maintain pretty well...so yeah...whatever works for you ya know?

As far as the diet getting bad press I cant see how it could be bad for you unless you are doing it incorrectly. I see too many people attempt to do atkins without buying the book and wonder why they are getting ill.
The basics of the diet is get rid of your cravings for sugar and all of that other crap and bascially forces you to eat whole unprocessed foods. People basically get sick when they attempt to do atkins without eating any vegetables. You need vegetables because they are good for you and because they have carbs in them. I dont see how a diet that makes you eat so many vegetables along with lean meat and cheese can be bad for you. When you move through the other phases of atkins you are allowed to add in the low carb items along with oatmeal, most fruit, brown rice, whole grain bread and even the occasional potato. The purpose of the diet is to get you to stop craving the bad carbs along with sugar and emphasizes on eating the right ones.
Dr. Atkins had a previous heart condition that made his body swell up and that contributed to him being overweight in the last couple of months that he lived.
I think that whatever plan works best for your lifestyle is the way to go. I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions about the diet.
