I totally agree...and am I the only one who thinks it's unfair that the only family they showed backstage was Fantasia's? And then brought her daughter out on the stage? I just didn't think that was right...

Carol

No, you're not the only one. I said the same exact same thing. It's not necessary. If her daughter was on one of the clips they showed before she sang, that would be a different story. America needs to vote based on talent, not because Fantasia is 19 and has a baby and they think that's cute. JMO.

I really thought Fantasia e best this week and for me personally I finnally had someone pull away as my favorite. Homegirl has some powerhouse vocals. Her yeah yeaiiahs at the end were very Stevie. Go Fantasia.

Diana - Better than she has been in three weeks. I figured out whom she reminds me of: Leeanne Rimes when she was that age - Smiling and belting everything without much restraint or nuance. Like Leeanne, Diana will mature in her style.

Jennifer - My favorite since the auditions, and she wowed this week. I'm especially impressed with how savvy she's becoming in things like responding to Simon's tacky comment about the divas not getting along (loved the look on her face) and when he asked her to rate herself.

George - He's slipping. This guy can sing, but you'd never guess it from this week's performance. Really forced and strained.

Jasmine - She continues to sound rough around the edges (like on the last note) but this was better than she has been in awhile. I can do without Simon's tacky comment about the flower. She said in the beginning that she wears it as a point of cultural pride. Who is he to knock it?
Also, I love Dionne's version of this song, and I think Jennifer would have been AMAZING doing it. I wish they had switched songs.

LaToya - Better than she has been in some time. This week she did not bore me with her voice like she usually does, but watching her is a yawner. Also, I don't know if anybody else sees this, but I think she has the eyes of a woman twice her age (NOT that I'm knocking older women at all - I love Stevie, remember? ). She seems much older than she should.

John - Stupid song choice - why go with one that people will compare to a famous, successful vocal, especially when you can't sing it well? Good night, JohnBoy. :wavey:

Fantasia - Not bad vocally (in fact the beginning sounded original and stylish) but the yeah yeahs are awful and these songs are too short for her long finishes, IMO.

Anybody else catch that bad guy singer in the audience, the one the judges could only compliment on his looks and presence?

BTW, I think we need to send Elmer Fudd to this show with his rifle. It's wabbit hunting season. NO, it's swan hunting season. :distress:

LMAO!

I actually thought this was John's best week in a few weeks (although I had a hard time stomaching the song Mandy - ugh!) Very disappointed in George, this was clearly his worst performance, I'm surprised the judges weren't harder on him. Jasmine - ehhh, she's blah. This was also the first week I didn't like Fantasia. Jennifer was best, IMO, Latoya second. I just realized Diana reminds me of a Cabbage Patch Doll, so that's all I can think of when she's on.

Anyone else notice how egotistical Barry was? With every performance, he had some comment "well, when I arranged this one..." "I wrote this song, and was a huge hit for so&so..." "Of course, with my catalog of songs, you need great range..." "I have so many songs, it's hard to pick one to sing..."

WTF? OK, we get it, you wrote a lot of songs. Congrats.

The sad thing is that no amount of plastic surgery is going to make
Barry Manilow look good!

I really continue to like Fantasia--she's my girl. The growl in her voice & her riffs remind me a little of Miss Stevie. Jennifer was excellent this week. LaToya was good, but for some reason, I just don't feel a connection with her. I used to like George but he's wearing on my nerves now. John needs to say bye-bye. So does Diane or whatever the heck her name is. I thought she was terrible--I don't care what the judges say.

Okay. John and George should have been the bottom three. I have to say that out of the three girls, Jennifer SHOULD NOT have been the one to go AT ALL. This says to me that America is evidently still lying around on the floor smoking dope WHICH CLEARLY IMPAIRS THEIR JUDGEMENT TO VOTE FOR THE NEXT AMERICAN IDOL. IT also says to me that America is not a fan of a soulful voice and there are a few in this competition. I'm glad Ryan made a plea to America....vote on talent...too bad no one will listen.

Oh, and am I the only one that was incredibly excited they sang Holiday Road. I actually *SQUEEE!!*'d.

- Jake

Oh, because i'm sweet...what the hell.... ;)

This is how it happened....

They seperated everyone into two groups...the A group (Jennifer, LaToya, Fantasia) and the B group (Diana, John, Jasmine) and then George was left sitting on the couch. It was at this point in the show in which Ryan told George he was safe (he was cheering and overwhelmed) and to go ahead and stand with the top group. He got up with a confused look on his face..looked at both groups and went and stood with the three girls. At that point, Ryan said, "no, the top group...Diana, Jasmine, John and George you are safe this week. Fantasia, LaToya and Jennifer...you are the bottom three." EVERYONE looked absolutely confused and shocked in both groups and I'm fairly certain I heard the audience boo. LaToya was then pronounced safe and Jennifer and Fantasia continued to stand awaiting their fate. When Jennifer was announced, Fantasia i'm sure was happy inside but hugged and kissed Jennifer and wouldn't let her go. Diana had tears in her eyes and George and John were upset as well. At the end of the show, the judges and Ryan sort of made a plea with America to vote based on talent and how this isn't a popularity contest...they're looking for the best singer and they just let a huge talent slip by.

I had been watching Extra before I left work and they mentioned that there was going to be a huge dissapointment with the idol vote tonight. Apparently the judges and a lot of other people knew and were all very shocked by the way America had voted. I'm still pissed.

You're welcome, J. I agree but by the same token, America voted...this was their decision. I didn't put those girls in the bottom three but someone voted and did. I still think what it comes down to is the voting process needs to change. You should only be able to text once and vote from each telephone line once. These unlimited calls into the show are simply not cutting the mustard and I bet next season if this show is still around, things will have changed.

If he wins, I'm never watching this show again. I CANNOT believe Jennifer was voted off. It just proves that people are voting for their favorite personalities and not the best singers. Plus the fact that I can't stand her doesn't help either, but there I go, letting personalities get in the way...

I don't buy that completely. The producers and judges set the tone for crappy quality and rudeness with the Lisa Leuschner No-Getting-To-Sing debacle. For weeks they criticized Jennifer more than they criticized Camille and John.

I actually feel bad for him too. He literally looks like he is in pain up there every time they make him dance, sing, or find out that he has to do this for another week! Poor thing must know he really doesn't have the kind of talent it takes to be at this place in the competition. It kind of reminds me of Nikki in the first season. She struggled and struggled through her performances and was practically begging to be put out of her misery and sent home, but for some reason people thought they were doing something GOOD for her by keeping her around. Now she sings in kareoke bars.

I think it's shameful what they did to George too. His face went through so many expressions--relief, confusion, embarrassment, and finally he looked really pissed off!

It surely seemed group A was the "safe" group. What a shocker to see the least talented group get "approval." It made for good drama, but clearly the three at the bottom of the heap don't have the home crowd behind them, and that's a shame. Can't blame the judges for that. The judges made their intentions clear.

This show has already chosen their final two. It's OBVIOUS. It's EXACTLY what they wanted on Season One....the two divas...head to head. And no matter WHAT anyone says, Justin IS talented and deserved to be in the final two.

How evil to make George choose which group to go to. That kind of crap is what you used to do in middle and high school. Choose teams.

I only watched the last few minutes of the show last night. I had more important things to watch, like the Flameworthy Awards with Keith Urban performing. :D

I'd never seen the show before, but even I felt sorry for the guy after watching the clip of Simon telling him he wasn't talented enough. In fact, I woudn't be surprised if people voted for him out of pity. "Screw you Simon" might have also been a factor for people not voting for those he clearly indicated where the ones he wanted to stay.

It's also kind of a shame that these people aren't being allowed to celebrate their win, since it is viewed as "undeserved." Taints the whole thing.

'Idol' Upset Breeds Conspiracy Theories
(Thursday, April 22 04:50 PM)
By Daniel Fienberg

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The story goes that in 1960, Crime Boss Sam Giancana (with the assistance of Chicago's Mayor Daley) helped sway the Illinois vote to give the presidential election to John F. Kennedy. On that election night, Chicago's dead allegedly rose from the grave and helped cast the deciding votes that led to Richard Nixon's narrow defeat.
It seems that even the dead would have had some difficulty voting for their "American Idol" favorites on Tuesday night (April 20), as a power outage left 15,000 Chicago residents without power. If the buzz is to be believed, those poor, disenfranchised souls could do nothing to prevent the departure of native daughter Jennifer Hudson.

On Thursday morning (April 22), "American Idol" viewers were still buzzing over the baffling turn of events that left Hudson, considered one of the contest's strongest performers, observing all future "Idol" proceedings from the outside.

If there's anything "American Idol" fans love more than a slightly pitchy Whitney Houston cover, it's an elaborate conspiracy theory. Since the first season, when previous odds-on favorite Tamyra Gray made a shocking premature exit, nearly every Wednesday results episode has been greeted with skepticism. If the show's passionate fan base is to be trusted, the Masons, Teamsters and Stonecutters have decided that rigging "American Idol" voting is the quickest route to world domination.
Sometimes the conspiracies are nationwide. At the end of last season, Clay Aiken fans swarmed Internet message boards complaining that they were prevented from voting by terminal busy signals that never seemed to plague Ruben Studdard supporters.

Sometimes, though, tiny local hiccups are sufficient to sway an entire vote. When Amy Adams was eliminated earlier this season, the suggestion was posited that a Prince concert in Adams' hometown of Bakersfield, California detained her biggest admirers. The pink-haired singer has a legion of fans who insist that she still deserves to be around.

Given that "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest called the voting in the Bottom Three the show's tightest ever, the Chicago power outage theory may have some weight. Of course, some entertainment newsmagazines like "Extra" are reporting on the story as if all 15,000 of those residents were sitting in their living rooms cursing the fates that they were unable to vote for Hudson. Presumably some of those people weren't actually "American Idol" fans at all. And of the percentage with fanatical dedication to the FOX talent show, some may have preferred to vote for much-maligned crooner John Stevens or Fantasia Barrino, who received the second fewest votes following Tuesday night's Barry Manilow Night.

Holding more weight (with some fans at least) than the power outage explanation is a more troubling discussion of whether race played any role in Tuesday night's voting. One night after influential judge Simon Cowell told Hudson that the show was on its way to becoming a Battle of the Divas with Barrino and LaToya London, the three young women, all African-American, were in the Bottom Three.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Stevens, victim of weeks of harsh criticisms from the "Idol" judges, has only made a single appearance in the group suffering from voter anemia. Depending on which camp you listen to, Stevens' unlikely run has been buoyed by the fact that he's white, the fact that he's appealing to teenage girls and the fact that he's a safe alternative for older voters who respect his vocal devotion to the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin (if not the actual execution of that devotion).

Those who disagree with the notion that "American Idol" voting is somehow fueled by race refer back to Studdard's triumph over Aiken last year and to the fact that Hudson was the first African-American contestant to leave the show this season, leaving Barrino, London and George Huff with a chance to win.

The "Idol" voting process is quite secretive, with Seacrest's weekly announcements carrying the same mystery as a plume of white smoke rising from the Vatican. Thus, viewers will never know if the entire state of Hawaii is joining forces to vote for Jasmine Trias or if every bar in Buffalo is filled with viewers eating wings and text messaging for Stevens. The lack of actual statistics is no impediment to rumor and scandal.

One thing that's for sure is that the show's fans are displeased. The volume of posts to the Zap2it.com message boards has soared in the past 24 hours and while many fans have eschewed the need to justify the recent vote, scarcely anybody seems pleased. More than a few posters argue that the show should end entirely after this season, while the more devious suggest that allowing Stevens to win the title would be fitting punishment for his fans and for the show's producers.

Amidst a slew of declarations from fans swearing that they'll never watch "Idol" again are more than a few suggestions that the voting system needs to be entirely revamped. The idea that fans should be voting against people rather than for them is gaining particular momentum,

People involved with the show are obviously concerned as well. As the Wednesday installment ended, Seacrest made a plea for viewers to remember to vote for their favorites. Judge Randy Jackson managed to politicize the decision.

"This is definitely not a popularity contest," Jackson announced with disdain as he looked over the Bottom Three. "This is the greatest talent show ever in American history. As a proud American, I hope that America's out there looking and watching. Listen, we want to be proud of whoever wins this."

It seems absurd that there should be any worries about a show that continually occupies two spots in the weekly ratings Top 10. However, there's little doubt that "Idol" viewers watch for personalities as much as the format itself. Last year, Aiken and Studdard were always bound for the finals, but that impending show-down caused viewership to increase each week.

This season, though, the "Idol" audience started huge, but in recent weeks apathy has slowly begun to set in. The audience dip has coincided with widespread complaints that this group of "Idol" Finalists is a step down from last year's pack. This week's Tuesday episode drew 22.75 million viewers. The week before that, 23.1 million viewers tuned in. The April 6 show drew 23.46 million and that was down from the 25.9 million who watched on March 30. The Wednesday episodes have experienced a similar decline. While Seacrest continues to make near-weekly references to the show's 30 million viewers, the audience hasn't actually been that large for months.

Given that the show is in its third season, a point at which even the most venerable of reality franchises have generally begun to show their age, this level of viewer attrition is to be expected. FOX is unlikely to need to lower its ad rates for the program any time soon. It will be interesting, though, to see if this week's viewer frustration leads to season-low ratings again next week.

I do like her - she has personality and talent and stage presence - but Jennifer is my favorite, and I resent that the judges have accused Jennifer of over-singing (a fair enough criticism) but have never pointed out that Fantasia ends 95% of her songs the same way and throws Yeah-yeah-yeahs into every single song.

That article was an interesting read. What it comes down to is like we've been saying, they need to change the method of voting. Only one vote per phone line. I know they have a deal with AT&T but get rid of the text votes. Much like cliffdweller, I would have rather seen Fantasia go. I think since a lot of people are bitching, you might see Jennifer come back and they'll extend the contest by another show. If they were smart, that's what they'd do.

They'll never do that. However, I do think Jen will be in the audience this season & she'll be back to promote an album next season, and they'll be kissing her @ss on both occasions.
I don't agree about the phone thing. Some households have more than one voter sharing the line & they might have different picks. I think they need to put a minimum contestant age in place, and it should be nineteen. They have a maximum age in place calready. The teenybopper voters are titling the results in favor of the teenybopper contestants. JMO.

She'll definately be back next season to promote her album...I have no doubts about that. Actually, getting voted off the show might be the best thing that could have happened to her. Look how Kelly and Ruben have dissapeared off the face of the Earth. Kimberly Lock and Clay Aiken are the two that are doing incredibly well now and even Tamyra Gray..not with singing but with acting. American Idol gives you a platform to introduce your talent but it does not make a star, IMO. American Idol winners seem to be a flash-in-the-pan. She'll do well on her own. I do agree with you when you say there should be a minimum contestant age. 16 is too young...you're voice isn't fully developed yet. As far as the voting thing goes, If I remember correctly, the first season of the show you could only vote once. I could be wrong. This multiple-votes thing is something that was started this season.

Well they just aired the episode here in the UK. It sucks Jennifer went out. George and John were bad tonight... I cringed when John sang Mandy. Ugh. He has a fabulous crooner voice but some songs it just doesn't work with. I thought Jasmine did better than usual but I prefered Jennifer over Fantasia. It does urk me tho that these gilrs all seem to want to deafen you... surely there is more to singing belting it out at the top of your voice.

Fantasia certainly seemed upset at the outcome and both Geaorge and John looked shocked that they had remained.

I resent that the judges have accused Jennifer of over-singing (a fair enough criticism) but have never pointed out that Fantasia ends 95% of her songs the same way and throws Yeah-yeah-yeahs into every single song.

I think the line that Jennifer couldn't handle a Manilow song is pure crap. Who are they kidding?
The comments from her about divas and George make me wonder if there was any backstage friction between the three ladies.

Hudson Talks Frankly About 'Idol' Dismissal
(Friday, April 23 03:18 PM)
By Daniel Fienberg

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - "I feel like I won the show since I lost the show," Jennifer Hudson says.
You may have heard that Hudson was sent home on Wednesday (April 21) night's "American Idol." You may also have heard that the situation surrounding that departure was, let's just say "contentious."

Two days after Hudson left the "Idol" stage surrounded by her weeping fellow finalists, the 22-year-old Chicago native is facing her future with optimism, but while she denies disappointment, it's clear that a bitter taste remains in her mouth.

The official "American Idol" web site dismisses any kind of controversy, declaring, somewhat misleadingly, "In the round of seven, Jennifer wasn't able to handle the music of Barry Manilow." Hudson disagrees, joining her vocal legion of fans in maintaining that her exit was premature.
"I don't think it was based on talent," she declares. "If we're gonna base it on talent, I know I was robbed. I don't think ... I don't know exactly what it was based on, but I don't think it was talent at all."

Although she quickly skips over suggestions that race may have played a role ("Talent has no color," she explains) she knows for a fact that she lost votes because of storms that caused power outages in Chicago. It wasn't until after Wednesday night's show that Hudson's mother confessed that she had been unable to vote on Tuesday night and that several of her siblings had also experienced a lack of cell phone reception.

"That storm was a sign from God that it's time to remove you from this place," says the religious Hudson. "I feel like He spoke and when He's got something to say, I ain't got nothing to say about it."

One person she refuses to blame is 16-year-old John Stevens, the carrot-top crooner who has been at the center of debate for weeks due to the popularly held perception that he isn't good for this level of competition. Hudson confirms that the past few Wednesdays, Stevens has been heard saying that he should have been going home.

"We all feel he deserves to be there. We all deserve to be there," Hudson declares. "I don't think he should feel that way. He has fans, just like we do, and obviously they're voting."

Hudson's frustration isn't that John Stevens' fans flood the phone with their votes every Tuesday, but that other contestants' fans are slower to show their support. Then again, Hudson is of the opinion that she wasn't getting enough love throughout the competition.

"I never really received any of my props or accolades from any of the judges and they always gave me a hard time, so it wasn't really an easy role for me at all," she says, reasoning that perhaps it was just time for her to move on.

Calling herself "The Good Diva," Hudson insists that she doesn't have "a bad attitude and a lot of demands and all that crap." The problem may just be that Hudson is a singer for a different time. As much as she enjoyed receiving her smattering of compliments from the "Idol" judges, she puts more stock in raves from the likes of guest judges Elton John and Barry Manilow.

"They come from the real era of music, when it was real singing, back when music was music," Hudson say. "I felt like if I was born in the time of Aretha Franklin then... it would be 'Aretha Franklin and Jennifer Hudson.' I'd rather be praised by somebody like them versus the people of today, because the people of today have no clue what real music is."

Hudson says she'll be rooting for close friend George Huff for the rest of the competition and refuses to feel bad either about her performance on the show or the way her run ended.

"I'm just telling the truth because -- as far as the show goes -- I really don't have anything to lose, because it's over for me," she says. "I feel overall, I can't complain, because I experienced everything I wanted to experience."

Elton John Blasts "Idol" As Racist

April 27, 2004
Grammy Award winner ELTON JOHN let loose on "American Idol" voters on Monday calling their decisions racist. John admits he hasn't had time to watch the show lately, but has some definitive thoughts on last week's voting in which the three divas -- FANTASIA BARRINO, LA TOYA LONDON and JENNIFER HUDSON were in the bottom three, and then Jennifer was sent home.

"The three girls would have the talent to be members of the Royal Academy or Julliard," he comments. "They have great voices. The fact that they're constantly in the bottom three, and I don't want to set myself up here, but I find it incredibly racist."

As "American Idol" fans know Tuesday, April 6 was Elton John night on the pop idol wannabe series, and the music icon had worked briefly with each of the finalists to select one of his songs for that night's show. Although John was in Las Vegas the night the Idols actually performed, he became very aware of each and every one of their talents from the time he spent with them.

John is heading out on the road again and made the comments during a press conference announcing a new series of concerts.

In other "American Idol" news, ET's Insider has the latest from this week's rehearsals which have a Latin theme as the idols will be backed by the MIAMI SOUND MACHINE and the guest judge is GLORIA ESTEFAN.

Maybe it's a result of being in the bottom three last week, or maybe she just wants to shake things up, but this week La Toya casts aside her normal ballads and performs the "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You."

Fellow diva, the fab Fantasia, struck an instant rapport with Gloria when she walked into rehearsals, kicked off her high heels and told the Grammy Award winner, "Girrrrrl, I want you to teach me to salsa!" Fantasia chose "Get On Your Feet," and it goes without saying will add her own gospel flair.

GEORGE HUFF is having a tough week. The New Orleans native is not feeling well, so his voice is not ringing true. Sources say this could be his last week in the competition, despite earlier speculation he would make it to the Top 4. George has selected "Live For Loving You."

DIANA DeGARMO, who also was ill during two weeks worth of performances, has fully recovered and will sing "Turn The Beat Around," and the Aloha girl JASMINE TRIAS will give viewers her rendition of "Here We Are."

And last, JOHN STEVENS sings "Music of My Heart," the duet Gloria performed with *NSYNC. This is not the type of song John does best, and hopes are not high for his performance, but John found support from his mother, who watched proudly as he rehearsed.

According to the Insider, Diana, La Toya and Fantasia delivered the strongest rehearsals, with Jasmine starting a little shaky but building her confidence as she goes. The two weakest performances are John Stevens, who only does "okay, not hitting the notes," and as mentioned earlier, if George can't get it together because of his illness, he could be out if he doesn't turn the beat around

I don't find it racist. It's based on who watches the show and what their musical taste is. Evidently, those that vote are, as we established, 12 year old girls with raging hormones who are evidently head over heals for John Stevens and have no taste. I don't like Fantasia and at first, I didn't like Jennifer. I don't like George at all but that doesn't make me racist...I don't think George can sing very well and I don't like Fantasia's style of singing AT ALL.

They tell you at the end of the show to vote for who you'd want to save because you don't want to see them go. The girls were hyped up by the judges as "that Divas" and I think people may have though well, I don't need to vote for "the Divas" because they'll be safe no matter what and look, worked against them.

Jennifer SHOULD NOT have gone home but it happened. I think it makes the situation worse to throw race out there. I don't think that's the case at all. So Elton, if there had been three white people in the bottom group (which there has been before) then what would you have to say? So stupid...

It was on the news that many, many, many of the posts on the AI board contain sentimnents like "I don't want to see a top three of all black divas." Race is factor, we just don't know how big. :)

I find it arrogant of Elton to say that when he himself hasn't been watchingg the show or voting. Who is he to make such an assessment? I'm angry about the results and I suspect race is a factor (who knows how big), but far be it from me to turn my suspicion into a public accusation, and I did watch.

Yes, I was bored, too! I'm so over Fantasia. Her voice just does nothing for me, and something about her irks me, but I'm not sure what. However, I love LaToya's voice, and she's so poised. Bravo to Simon for his comments to John, even though I don't remember exactly what he said. :] I just know I thought it was nice of him to say! Ha! You're right about the car wash, but I think Diana's dress was fun and appropriate for the salsa theme.

I have to admit that Diana was the best last night, even though I'm not her biggest fan. LaToya was not bad either. And though Fantasia is still my girl, I think the people who did the worst last night were: John--the WORST, George--really bad, and Fantasia--NOT feeling it.

I am surprised too at Elton's comment about racism, but dissention is right--there's lots of race talk over on the Idol boards.

George was horrible, as bad as John Stevens this time. I think tonight it will be Jasmine or George leaving, though who knows with this show. I will not be watching. Agreed. Diana was the best and I really can't stand her singing at all. LaToya was good, but she just kind of bores me sometimes with her perfect singing, perfect poise, perfect everything...there's not a whole lot of character or personality there, but she has the most pristene (sp?) voice of all the contestants.

I really miss Jennifer :( she was so natural, upbeat and quirky. The spark has kind of left the show. And Fantasia? What a diva. Divas like her are a dime a dozen.

...he finally went! He seemed relieved, actually. They separated them into 2 groups last night. Fantasia, Latoya & Diana in one, Jasmine, John & George in the other.

When they told the first group they were the best, I thought Diana was going to piss herself right on stage. I know she's young, but so are Jasmine & John and I've never seen them jumping up & down, clapping for themselves & giggling when they were told they were safe. It's too much, and I think her reactions are a bit rude to the people that didn't make it. *jumps off her soapbox*

Anyway, he then told Jas she was safe, she started crying. I was so worried that George was going to go, but thankfully it was John. (good thing too, or Elton would've pulled the race card out again!) Ryan asked John if he was relieved & he said yes. Then Ryan asked him what he was going to miss and John pointed at the other contestants & said "them." That was it, he sang his last tune & the crying & hugging commenced.

Actually, the crying was quite ridiculous last night - I don't know if they were so sad to see him leave, or if they were so happy that it wasn't one of THEM leaving!

Yeah, she was awful. I think the judges should be careful not to tear someone down as badly as they did Jasmine last night, because then people feel sympathetic and vote more for that person than they normally would. It especially spurs on the maniac fans of the horrible person to vote a million times. I'm not Hawiian, so of course I can't say for sure, but I bet they felt Hawiian pride was at stake last night.

I don't think the crowed booed Jasmine. They booed that LaToya was in the bottom two. There is a difference. I agree that Jasmine was not good on Tuesday, but I don't think it was the judges' criticisms that won her the most sympathy. I think out of Fantasia and LaToya, Fantasia should have taken a hike. I'm sorry...I think she's completely overrated. They've been setting her up to win for a while and now, I think she will. Jasmine will be the next to go and it will be between Diana and Fantasia.

No, it would be Diana over Jasmine. The only reason Jasmine is still here is because of what Simon says (don't crack Simon says jokes, plz..I can hear the rusty wheels of your brain turning already). Diana has been amazing (i know, I said I wouldn't watch but it's like a damn trainwreck) so out of the three, I think she's the one who would really do the title of American Idol justice. She's the whole package, IMO. I still miss Jennifer though. She would have been amazing the past few shows.

I'm not saying that i'm looking for the total package in an American Idol but it's what that industry wants...she is the kind of person they look for...something they can SELL. Not everyone will like or does like Fantasia's voice even though it is original. Diana would sell way more albums to teenyboppers and you cannot deny that...that's what this is all about...who Simon Fuller can make the most money off of. Diana is what's out there today. Fantasia is a voice for a different kind of person...someone that appreciates her particular style. She's only going to reach a very broad audience and no, i'm not even talking about race here.

I was very upset when LaToya went Wednesday night. I thought she had what it took to win it. She can sing anything & is very talented. She's not nervous on stage. And she's a Capricorn like me. If she seems aloof, it's because most Capricorns are like that. We don't have much to say; we observe; we're quiet. That doesn't make us stuck up. And we are not full of ourselves. Maybe because she is 25, the teens voting thinks she's too old & that's why they voted for the kids, Diana & Jasmine. JMO. Anyway, I think LaToya will get a record deal. Randy Jackson said on Ryan Seacrest's show via tape that if LaToya ever needed help with her career that he would help her out.

I'm not really interested in who wins now. I don't feel the girls that are left are Idol material. Diana's too over the top & sings off-key sometimes. Jasmine sings off-key all the time. And Fantasia to me doesn't have the greatest voice. I can't quite put my finger on it; sounds like she screaming or something. I have a feeling that Diana will win it though.

Now I like Kelly Clarkson & I like Clay & Reuben. All are talented singers.

I thought it was interesting that in a poll on USAtoday.com, Diana was first, then LaToya, then Fantasia, then Jasmine. So why wasn't that the result on Wednesday?

I think they need to change the voting system. I don't really know how, but they need to do something.

Well thank god for the final 2 being Fantasia and diana. I love them both and those 2 have been my favorite from the start, with maybe Lotya possible competing for my favorite.
.
But when you think about it it makes sense that the voting went the way it did. It was dumb but it made sense. Lotya and Fantasia were both great but it was hard to decide between the 2, so their votes got split up. So once ONE of them left, then ALL of the votes that were once split betwwen the 2 all wnet to Fantasia finally beating that Hawaian alliance thing.same thing save John Stevens for a long time. once JPL left his votes went to John Stevens. But the Buffalo Alliance is far wekaer then Hawai so he eventuall was ousted. Of course this whole votes going to other people theory would end if they just changed the danmed voting process.
.
And although there some minor bumps along the wya where some people left too ealry or went too far in the end I think America got the final 2 just about right. sure jenifer should've made it farhter then John Stevens, and Latoya should'vew made it further then Jasmine but overall we have the 2 best.

Abdul Looks Into Launching Legal Action Against Salon

American Idol judge Paula Abdul has announced plans to launch legal action against the nail salon which she claims caused her to almost lose her thumb. The singer was left wearing a sling, which she claims was the result of a manicure gone bad at Studio City, California's Chinoisiere. Abdul alleges she was left with an infection so severe that she almost lost her thumb. Doctors at Los Angeles' Cedar's Sinai Hospital reportedly had to surgically remove the entire nail. She tells American TV show Celebrity Justice, "I've had manicures forever, and I've never run into any problem like this, so it's kind of frustrating." Abdul is how set to retain a major personal injury law firm to aid her in her battle against the nail salon. Sources say a lawsuit is likely as early as this week. But a manager at the salon suggests Abdul's injury didn't happen there, telling American TV show Celebrity Justice, "We called her initially out of concern (because) we like her, not because we had anything to do with it. Her claims are inconsistent with the dates and times she was here." But Abdul says that while doing her nails, the manicurist poked her in the thumb and she screamed. When she left, Abdul says she sucked her thumb and tasted blood. She also says the salon called her friend four times that night to see how she was doing. The former pop star's representatives say they will be able to prove the timing is consistent.

I like your theory, it makes me feel a little bit better about LaToya getting ousted. I can't for a second think she was voted off for lack of talent. It must be the Fantasia/LaToya thing, I guess people couldn't make up their minds who the liked the best. I guess in a weird way, that's a positive thing because they're both VERY talented singers. Better to be sucked in by someone who's good rather than with someone who sucks a la the JPL/JS alliance.

Fantasia reminds me of a cross between Diana Ross and Tina Turner. I think the Diana side of her is bound to rub people wrong. To each his own. I liked Jennifer, followed by LaToya, followed by Amy Adams, followed perhaps by Diana. LaToya can sing, but the sound of her voice is nothing special to me. I'll say this for Diana, at least she's bucking the trend for her age by not dressing like a ho.

Diana's final song was weak, and he commented on that...Fantasia brought the house down on her final song, and Simon said that it was her acceptance speech, and congratulated her.

Kudos to Paul Anka for not only parodying his own song, but for rhyming Fantasia with euthanasia.

Simon said that Idol competitions have aired in thirteen countries so far, and Fantasia is the best he has EVER seen among any of the seventy contestants.

BTW, didn't Anka do a parody last year?

Yeah, unfortunately, Fantasia will probably lose now that Simon said that. Stupid Americans.

I do agree with what Paula (?) said that Diana NEEDS to win this competition-- Fantasia will be successful whether she wins or not, but Diana NEEDS to win AI.

By the way, I must have tried to call at least 100 times last night for Fantasia-- on all three lines-- and I NEVER GOT THROUGH. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, AI.

Ugh, I can't stand that tween. She shouts her songs, all her movements are robotic and rehearsed, she sings the songs exactly how they were recorded, and she has NO stage presence at all. And her voice is average, there's nothing unique about it at all. Those "C'mon, y'all!" are so utterly annoying that I wish I had a gas oven.

Fantasia is in another class. She can shake her booty with the bes tof them, she morphs other peoples songs into her songs, and she commands attention. Her voice is very unique and a breath of fresh air. Regardless of her attitude, she has talent, not karaoke-like abilities to shout and holler "C'mon, y'all!" Wanna talk fake? Two words: Diana. Degarmo.

Just my thoughts, though.

I got through to vote for Fantasia nine or ten times last night ;-)

I started to get worried, though, because at first I was able to get in twice in about forty minutes, then within the space of fifteen minutes I was able to get in seven or eight times.

FANTASIA!!!! Diana's a creepy pageant baby who shouts instead of singing. I loved her arguing with Simon last night about climbing mountains and swimming lakes.

Fantasia was just interviewed by our local Fox affiliate (they had someone in Hollywood) and she held up keys in her hand while wiping her eyes (of course she was crying) they asked what the keys were to and she said she had just won a car, and that she'd never had a car before. They asked her how she was feeling now and she said she was so happy because now she can finally take care of her child on her own. You guys I about started crying. We are all so proud of her here!

I know. I think that's what Simon meant last night when he criticized Diana for not having had the life experience of overcoming obstacles to sing that song. (He's right, but it's still lame. It's not like SHE chose the song!) You could just see the pride in Fantasia's face when she spoke of how much she's been through. And I guess all those lame Ford music videos are worth it if you get a car.

That isn't my favorite song on that album but Kelly did alright. I was too busy thinking about how i'd love to wipe the gold eyeshadow from her eyes and yell at her stylist to really focus on her voice. That outfit and the makeup weren't very flattering on her and I think she's an attractive girl.

Agreed. She looked okay for the first song, but when she sat on the piano, I kept thinking she was a little kid who got into her mother's make-up drawer and closet. Boring song, too.

I actually like the song Tamyra wrote - 100 times better than the lame singles that Kelly & Ruben were forced to released after seasons 1&2.

About Kelly - I so agree, the eye makeup was hideous. And I may be wrong, but I thought I saw someone telling Fantasia's fam to go up to the stage at first, then another guy said no & they turned them around.
