That is incredibly stupid. I thought it was simply badly worded and meant that they wouldn't know the seat locations before the pre-sales, but you'd be able to see where your seats are when you purchase them. If it's truly going to be "blind seating" that's ridiculous. Who is going to buy concert tickets without knowing where they'll be sitting? Especially from a fanclub with a history of not delivering.

I'm not very happy with the fact that if you get tickets through the fan club you don't know what your seats are until the tickets arrive in the mail. And considering we all got crappy seats last year how do we know that we'll really get good seats this year?

No kidding. The new fan club management is not exactly off to a roaring start, are they? Nobody gets the e-mails they send out (if, in fact, they send anything); only a handful of members received their calendars; and now they're asking us to trust them that they know what the "best seats" are? Thanks, but I'll pass.

I'm taking my chances with Ticketmaster...at least I know up front that they're screwing me over!

I had actually debated joining the fanclub with someone else and splitting the cost because I think it'll be more difficult to get tickets in the front for outdoor venues. However, blind seating? No thanks. I'll take my chances with ticketbastard.

I can believe this.... I am starting to get really bummed. I was really hoping the new fan club would be better!
I still have not recieved any return e-mails or my calendar.
I have a gift certificate for Ticketmaster. I guess I will use it....unless things get better.

I hope the fan club ends up eating these tickets.

This news certainly changes a lot of my plans. I won't buy blind tickets and i won't pay $500 for one ticket. I guess that leaves Ticketmaster or Ebay again. No calender or letter, no communication and no tickets. So far they are batting 1000%.

Wow, what an incredible offer! Only $500?!? For a t-shirt AND a VIP laminate? I'm so there! And heck, who wants to meet the band when we could get a backstage tour and maybe - just maybe - get a glimpse of the crates that carry Mick's drumkit! It's more than I ever dreamed!!

This is hilarious. Truly hilarious.

Way to go with the Fan Club, FM!

This is just terrible news.
I am so upset!
I haven't gotten my calendar yet either!
At least I am in good company.
With 4 in my family the Platinum Package is out.
Who has that kind of money?

Seniority doesn't mean a thing now.
We are expected to just take what we get in luck of the draw on rows 1-30?
At least last time we could keep checking for seating and we could see what was open.
I feel sick about the whole thing.

I thought I also read that you can't resell the tickets you buy from the fanclub. I don't know how they would track you down - but they probably could. Anyway I might take my chances with the presale, but if I can't resell - no way. That's what I had to do with every ticket I got from the last presales because the tickets all sucked crap.

Since I've seen em 6 times this tour...unless they change the set, I think I'll probably pass on Dallas this time.

If they do happen to change the set kinda drastically, like adding Red Rover perhaps, (Lindsey, are you listening?!?!) I will wait until a week beforehand and check TM or Ebay or something.

Note the racks of clothing that Stevie doesn't wear, and the instrument cases. Where the band keeps its instruments. And that, ladies & gentlemen, wraps up our tour ;).

I want to know if 50 Platinum Packages are
available in rows 1-5 at each venue,
how many seats does that leave up close for the
Bronze Package option?
Seems to me that we are going to be stuck with
the fantastic "premium" seats in rows 6-30 unless Ticketmaster
handed over ALL the best seating on the floor to "OUR"
magnificent New Fan Club.
Now why would Ticketmaster do something like that?
At least with the old club we had a shot at the first five rows.
Will we now?
I don't feel like I have a shot at a decent seat at all.
The whole thing has become a disgrace.
We deserve better than this.

What an absolute joke!!! And they still can't tell you where your seat will be as you will be buying blind! When will the realise that the fan club members want to be down the front... row 30 just won't wash! Also they say rows 1-30 for bronze and 1-5 for platinum. Well if you got platinum and were in row 5 wouldn't you be slightly pissed that someone with bronze was in row 1?

I don't know about anyone else but I could care less about a t-shirt and laminate. And backstage is very dull if you aren't getting to meet any band members.

And they say 50 platinum per show?? So 50 signed tourbooks per show?? Can you really see the band signing that many??

I can. Corporate entertainment, as a write off. 50 platinum packages at $500 per show = $25,000 per show x 40 shows = $1,000,000. Way to make an easy million.

Although I think they are alot of $$$, FM concert sales prices are in line with other acts of their status (Eagles, Stones, etc.). I mean Simon and Garfunkal (sp.?) is a two person deal and they charged as much. So, FM is not openly and solely gouging and the market clearly is paying it. After sleeping on this info I thought I would post again. Last year, I bought my tickets on Ebay, 7th row, center section for a little more than face value. I thought that they were excellent seats. They were right on the isle so I had a lot of room to stand for the whole concert (by choice--not by necessity.) Now we are looking at row 30 through the fan club? I think NOT. $500 for a chance at rows 1 through 5? Not only no, but, HELL NO. This has really been a big disappointment for me as I have always had faith that they would do things right for us. As far as I am concerned they have flunked the test. I can no longer support the non-existent efforts of a marketing company that only wants to pacify us by making us spend more money and make us think we are getting something. How ignorant do these people think we are? Still no calendar/letter, generic emails and now this. The hole gets deeper and deeper by the day. I can't invest in tickets only to find out 2 weeks before the concert that I don't like where I am going to sit. I will continue to use the means that has given me a decent success rate as far as seats go. $500 X 50 is $25,000. At $95 face value for the tickets, where is the other $20,000 going? 50 laminates, 50 trips backstage, 50 Autographed tour books, a $25 gift certificate to their store, and, a t-shirt. We have all worked hard for our paychecks and I really don't think we are going to grasp at the little carrot they are dangling in front of our faces.
Good luck to those of you that are going to use the presale. I hope it works out for you all. Personally, I need something more concrete to work with.

I don't mind the ticket prices really...but some of the things this fan club has the audacity to offer, outrage me....they think people are dumb enough to pay 500 bucks for row 1-5 and some other stupid perks...but the sad part i guess is some people WILL PAY for these packages...

Well, considering what you'd pay a scalper for a ticket in rows 1-5, which is about 300 bucks, this really isn't all that bad. IF you have the money. When you consider a tour book 30 bucks, a t-shirt, 35 bucks, 25 bucks in the store...that's about a hundred bucks, plus the face value of 150 or so. They're making 200 - 250 a person for the paperwork, and a backstage tour. 500 bucks is a lot of money to a lot of people, but how many of us spent 2 -300 just for a ticket, parking and 10 dollar apiece drinks on the last leg. They know people will pay it, so they are offering it. When I heard of this new leg, my first reaction was "Well, they are backing up the Brinks truck." Why not ? People will pay, and pay, and pay.

P.S. I WON'T BE ONE OF THEM.

ShangriLaTroubl
02-11-2004, 02:34 PM
First off I havent and never will pay that for ONE ticket...it's ridiculous...when you can get a ticket almost always on Ebay for 350 - 400 bucks for TWO tickets....and half the time you can get a great ticket from ticketmaster for face value...IMO it's a rip off offer...and people WILL pay the 500 bucks for one ticket, and a stupid backstage tour...meet a couple of roadies, get a laminate....whatever....I'll get my tix on my own, and If I do get screwed and end up with row 25...then whatever, atleast I will know ahead of time whats happening...

 That's not the point. The point is, this band was once about the music, not just money. That isn't the case anymore. And comparing their pricing and behavior with that of other acts is ridiculous. The fact is, they want as much cash as they can get and will spare nothing to get it, even the integrity they have left. We all heard Liddy Buck's cheesy explanation about ticket prices and that screamed of absurdity.

They can go ahead and charge the amounts of money that they do, but it doesn't mean that their fans aren't going to question their integrity and motives. They can put ****s like Toad in charge of their endeavors, but they should expect to come under fire from fans who feel cheated. We're simply cows being milked.

I have more respect for artists like Tom Petty who appreciate their fans for putting them where they are and making tickets affordable for them. They are to be commended, whereas FM needs a slap in their collective faces. I do not blindly worship these people and will not buy into the mentality that they do this "for the fans" because they don't. If Stevie cares as much about the fans as she says she does, why screw them over so much? I think I know why. Someone has to pay for the private jets and the diamond dog collars, so it might as well be us, huh?

Any band that treats fans so badly doesn't deserve any more success, IMO.

I sat in 4th and 2nd rows at the 2 shows I attended. Face value. I got the best I could at the outset, then traded up when Ticketmaster released better ones days before the show. I took the risk of having to sell the first tickets, but it worked out and I didn't eat any tickets. So it is a no-brainer to me. I realize I was incredibly lucky, and it may be different with the outdoor venues, but that is the way I'm goin. f*** fanclubs or presales!!! I don't have to deal with the anger or disapointment either!

We need to realize that our band does not get into the little details like how much a t shirt will cost, especially Stevie....the promoter makes the ticket prices, and yes the band could take a pay cut for lower ticket prices, but it's not going to happen...like it or not..if you don't like it just buy the CD's and say screw the concerts...

I didn't mean to imply that you blindly support anything the band does, that was not my intention. :)

While I agree that these clubs are scams, the comapnies that run them are not to blame: the bands and artists who put their names on them are. They endorse it because they know the fans will buy into it, even if it is a shady deal, as both FM clubs have turned out to be. The artists are the one who put their names on the products and if they're crappy products, they need to be held accountable. No one is forcing them to do these things, they CHOOSE to do so. it says a lot about FM and its members if they endorse two ****ty clubs that scam fans, dontcha think?

While I still love the band and love seeing them live, these kinds of things make me want to just listen to the stuff I have and enjoy that, not support their ongoing greed. That's all. :)

Yes I see your point Dissention...it's hard to support such a pricey band....peoples' money means so much to them, they work for it...they need it (most people anyway)...and the band SHOULD realize that when we DO shell out 125 per ticket that we do it because we really DO support them, and want them to have success, and want them to appreciate us, and simply enjoy them.....I dont know if they do know (them being multi-millionaires and all) how much that 125 bucks does mean to someone......I hope they do , I dunno...

A lot of us fans have given up a lot for this band...cancelling classes, not buying this or that, all this for that show.....it is a big deal, you are right, and they should appreciate it...I guess I just hope somewhere there they do appreciate it, and are naive as to what goes on...

You're using retail price on the shirts and tourbooks though. Those items don't cost them anywhere near that. I'd be willing to bet there's about a 300% mark up on that stuff. So I think they're making a lot more than that.

There is some truth to this, but it isn't that simple. I've learned a lot about how the tour business works in the last few months. One of my best friends is a talent buyer and has worked in the business for decades as a manager, booking agent, and club owner. The entire pricing structure is based on one thing, and one thing only - the "price guarantee". Basically, this is the amount of money the band demands per show. So, if a band will play for 50k a night, you divide that price by the number of seats, determine the break even point for the venue, factor in the percentage of seats you think you will sell, and set the ticket price from there. The venue has a set rental fee, the band has their set fee. The promoter pays the band, the venue rental fee, and the other incidental costs, and the rest is gravy.
But, this is all based and predicated on what the band demands to be paid. If a band demands in the range of 4-600k a show, which I am sure FM does, a promoter cannot risk losing money when a show only sells 60-70% of the house. They can't get in a situation where they can lose their shirt, because that is a hell of a shirt to lose.
Way before a tour is booked, the artist and their managers decide how much they want per show. This is probably more complicated with FM, as there are separate "artists" who have separate management. Rest assured, the amount of money they demand is definitely affected by the manner in which they travel. The private jets, four star hotels, personal assistants, chefs, massage therapists, and the like all add to the overhead and influence someone's asking price. The band does not set the ticket prices, but their "asking price" certainly influences the face value of the tickets.
Understanding all this doesn't really change my attitude about how much I want to see a band. It comes down to what a night of entertainment is worth to you. On one level, I don't blame them for traveling the way they do. If I were pushing sixty (or dragging it) and hauling my butt all over the country, I'd want to travel like royalty as well. Especially if I didn't HAVE to go out there for the money. My attitude just might be, "Okay, I'll do it, but it better be worth the wear and tear of it all."
It's a pretty complicated situation, but that's my view of the pricing and the reason why it is what it is.
The fan club, as always, is another issue entirely.

You're right there. Those shirts cost them maybe 10 or 12 bucks when bought in that kind of bulk. But, this fan club stuff has to support itself, and part of that profit is going to pay for staff and overhead for the "club" itself. It's all about 100% or more profit. No doubt about that.

Exactly what I meant Sparky, you put it in better words though...it still all comes back to the pay cut...if they band demanded 250k per show instead of say 600k per show, the ticket prices would in turn be cheaper..

They demanded $750k a night from what I read. ;)

ShangriLaTroubl

I read that too Dissention, although that's it's been said they were gotten a significant amount less AFTER the first 40 shows...something like 100k for Stevie and Linz, and 50 k per night for John and Mick....who knows really what kind of deals they have going...

That wouldn't surprise me a bit, though I never ran across that info.
I don't know how often they could reduce that on a tour after it has been booked, but depending on prior performance in certain markets, the promoters would have ammo to make them take a reduced rate.
It's real bitch to get a band to take a "reduction" after tickets go on sale, but if a show is stiffing, and they want to maintain their relationship with the promoter, they'll do it. Seeing as they were the #4 road act last year, I doubt their price has gone down much, if at all.

Didn't I teach this economic lesson last time we all got into this? In the end, it is supply and demand - period. Moreover, FM is far larger than TP has ever been or will be, they carry far more crew, and they play larger venues. Springsteen is as large if not larger. While he has his integrity, he also is a solo act and is worth already about $100 million off of touring rev. and rec. sales. So, he apparently does not mind being about music and money.

Also, since when has FM been about the music? They have always charged, to my recollection, the market price for tickets, have almost always recorded on an extravaggant basis (rented fancy houses, taken lots of people on tour with them, etc.)? So, I say, let them make what they can off of their product. Finally, as I pointed out several months ago, far less expensive seats available further back and higher up.

There is no way  and from a business perspective nor should they. The market dictates they can demand more. Until it does not (and it pretty much never will for this incarnation of FM), they will get their asking price. Them askking for less is along the same lines as someone paying the going rate for labor based on a 15 year old pay scale. And - idiots like me and several hundred thousand others will always pay

I agree, Strand. Them's the facts. I probably won't be going to more than one show on this tour, and it'll be a comped one at that, but tons of people will pay full price over and over.
My friends who are into pro sports constantly complain about the salaries of the payers, and I always tell them if they have a problem - don't go see them ! I don't !
At the end of the day, it is a business, and they know how much they can get. Why not ? I demand as much as I can get away with for a salary. Believe me, if I could 750k a night, I'd be demanding it.

Yeah, that's all fine and dandy, but we're not just talking about their ticket prices; we're talking about their business practices and greed overall. And they are charging way above the average ticket price, which I just read as being $70. The greatest hits show that they're touring with at the moment is not worth $150 a ticket. it just isn't. And if they weren't so ridiculously extravagant on the road, the ticket prices wouldn't be so high. It all comes down to greed in the end, unfortunately.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say this was classic JT doublespeak. Sounds like the presale ain't going so good.

"We want to reassure you regarding the ticket packages which are being offered to fans and to give a detailed explanation of these packages since we understand some of you have concerns.

The Platinum package is a very limited offering, only 50 per show, of a complete concert experience. The experience includes a exclusive shirt only for the Platinum experience, a autographed tour program and a backstage tour prior to the show that includes a keepsake photo of the backstage tour. We have held 950 prime seats (some starting with row one) per show to ensure that everyone in the fan club can purchase good tickets under the bronze presale. Although we don't set the price of a ticket, the $10 service charge is less than Ticketmaster.

The Platinum package isn't meant for everyone. It is a way for the band to offer an entire evening experience to a few of the fans who desire it.

Because this is not going through TicketMaster, as the last tour presale did, you can be assured that when we lists rows, we will deliver those tickets. We have taken complete control to assure we get what we want for the fans.

Exact seat and row locations are not given in advance for a number of reason, the primary being... it would be very easy for brokers to then join the fan club to buy up the tickets and sell or auction them. Taking away the chance for the fans to get the seats. Without knowing the location they will not be able to do this.

We are confident that once the tour begins and you receive your tickets you will be very happy!"

The fact that people get so worked up over ticket prices and fan clubs seems to me a little bit of wasted energy and emotion. Fan Clubs are generally the same. Cost $50-100 to join. Fan Clubs have been a source for so many groups to make money, but also a source for considerable angst within their fanbase. Fact is people's expectaions as to what these clubs can and will provide are too high and a little research into fan clubs of other performers would bare this out.

Ticket prices. They charge, we pay. If they could not get the price, they would not charge. Too expensive, don't buy them.

The show with guarantees costs 700k to put on. You are not going to get that amount charging $40 per ticket. If you want to see Fleetwood Mac it is going to be in large venues for high prices.

For those of you who bemoan this is not about the music anymore. Get over it! Fleetwood Mac is a group of wonderfully talented musicians who have over time developed a catalog of material and a popularity that not only allows them to be playing in the 21st century, but to be one of the most sought after concert tickets in the market.

For all of you with such lofty ideals, I wonder what you would do if you were Fleetwood Mac......I know your answer now, but the fact is you can not answer it without being there.

But it's the brand-new fans with whom I empathize: the ones who fell in love with Fleetwood Mac just the other day & are justifiably so excited to see an official fan club operating because they fervently believe that the Fleetwood Mac organization adores its fans & wants to give them stuff & do cool things for them. And then you get those horrible looks of disappointment as the truth hits those poor kids square in the face.

Can not argue with you there. So much they could play. Especially on this leg where they are hitting areas for the 2nd and even 3rd time in 12 months. It makes no sense at all.

ITA - they are not getting my $500. I'd rather sit probably in the same area and see four shows

I just wrote to the fan club, asking why I still don't have my calendar and signed letter - I got an auto-reply response, referring me to [email protected], if I had further questions, along with the list of promises to the fan club members. I wrote this to the faq address:

Seems only a handful of people have received their calendars. I haven't gotten mine yet.

"Across the board discount...on 12/7?" (see #1 below) - I ordered a tourbook online last week - linked to the merch via the link provided after signing into the fanclub. I didn't see ANY fan club discounts offered for ANY merchandise! Did I miss something?

Hate to say it, but so far, your attempts to "right the wrongs" of Sabremark have failed miserably.

The #1 I was referring to was the fan club discounts that members were to receive on all merchandise, beginning on 12/7. I'll let you know if they respond.

People who don't give a frick WHERE they sit...as in non die-hard fans.

The older fans should know better than to expect anything decent -- in the way of goods/services OR behavior -- out of a fan club, particularly a Fleetwood Mac fan club (Models 1 through 5). I'm through feeling sorry for the older fans who repeatedly subject themselves to the official fan club hard-sell. They should know better by now.

But it's the brand-new fans with whom I empathize

There actually are worthwhile fanclubs, though. If you're a Sarah McLachlan fan, or a Tom Petty fan, you've got a pretty good deal.

I'm over the fanclub. I got front row seats through a presale once. It was a total fluke, and I know now I probably could have gotten them just as well on my own, but I'm willing to say that right there was worth the $60 membership fee, call it even, and forget about it. I'm not even mad about my 60 bucks (well, $30, since I split with someone ;)). What bugs me about this Bronze/Platinum package crap is not that it's not worth the fanclub fee or that it's not what I was expecting the club to deliver... just the fact that it was even proposed is, well, insulting?

To me, anyway. I know there will be some people who will pay the $500 and genuinely feel like they got a good experience (few and far between as they may be). Maybe because they don't know any better, maybe because they have plenty of money, maybe because they really want an autograph and a "backstage tour". Whatever, but unfortunately you know some people will buy this. If it makes them happy, good for them I guess. But I know I'll be buying my tickets the traditional way no matter what, so I'm done carping about it .

That's not what I meant, but apparently the people who wrote that email seem to think so.

While we are on the topic of ticket prices, does anyone know how much tickets have cost for other tours, including Stevie's solo stuff?

In general, Stevie's tickets have never gone over $100. They are usually priced around $70-95 (during her last tour).
