Reading the WATW thread at Lindsey forum, why Stevie wasn't there?

Who were invited/asked to participate? Stevie was very popular by that time.

I read something about Prince didn't want to go because MJ was there, maybe just media rumours. But there were lot of more idols that didn't participate.

Were all singers in WATW from the same record company? were all only friends of MJ, Lionel, Wonder and Quincy? I don't know

But I think Stevie woud have been great in that song. Imagine Stevie with Tina and Cyndi,

maybe she was busy on the road...

I think I read that she was touring or had some other schedule conflict.

Well, like I said in the Lindsey Forum, I think it was a random thing, and that the ones who wound up in the chorus were just artists that happened to be hanging around afterwards.

If Stevie was there, which Jason's input about her being on Tour may very well be the case, but at any rate, if she was there, she probably scooted out pretty fast off to some after-party. She was quite the social butterfly in those days, and she didn't stay still for too long.

I think LB being there was just a fluke.

It was recorded on the same night as the American Music Awards...after the awards show, people who were invited, took limos to the recording studio. Obviously, Stevie must not have attended the awards show, Lindsey did.

Does anyone know when exactly WATW was recorded?

Stevie probably didn't do We are the World for a couple of reasons:

It was during or right after the RAL tour and she was exhausted.

And she was at the most addicted time of her life at that point and a performance for that video/single would have not shown her in the best light.

It's true though that -- had she been healthy -- it was a good time to keep her career momentum going. But this was the period, late-post RAL, that began the descent in her career.

I remember thinking at the time that it was such an unfortunate time for her -- careerwise -- to be "sidelined."

From http://www.inthe80s.com/weworld.shtml

"Quicy Jones was lined up as the producer, and Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie were the song writers. The recording took place on the night of the American Music Awards, January 28th, 1985. This was the perfect way to assure that most of the artists would all be free on a single date. "

Conversely, "Rock A Little" was released on November 18, 1985 (thank nicksfix.com).

So, does anyone know what La Nicks was doing in Jan. 1985 other than perhaps still recording RAL?

Oh.

Thanks.

Well, maybe it was because her voice was problematic during the RAL recording and she was battling her addictions. Just check out her appearance in the Talk to Me and I Can't Wait videos.

No prob. That could be true. Also, as we all know, the RAL sessions did not go smoothly at all and she hired and fired a few producers, in the end spending like a million to record the songs. So, maybe that was it.

Was Stevie on tour with Petty during this time?

I know she was in Australia with them in 1986 between the issuing of RAL and the tour, which bagan around April 1986. So, I think not, although I could be mistaken. The nicksfix has no time line events for the January 1985 period.

It could be Stevie was not asked?
