**This is NOT a post to bash people's least faves. I'm just curious as to which songs don't do it for ya.**
Well, on the Lindsey Ledge, I've listed my LB bottom list-ers. In other words, if you took all his songs and rated them, which ones would rank towards the bottom of the list. We can do this for each FM member for every song you've heard.
Yes, I've said I don't hate ANY Lindsey songs, but there are songs that I don't listen to often or just don't care for as much as the others. Plus, there's GOTTA be bottom list-ers for everyone.
"I don't hate it, it just has a certain FEEL to it." - Lindsey Buckingham ;)
Peter:
Rattlesnake Shake (Sorry folks, just don't care for it. )
Searching and Fighting for Madge (I'm all for jamming, but eh.)
Danny:
Station Man (I am TRYING to get into this song, but just can't)
Bob:
What a Shame (Eh.)
The City (I can't get into this song)
Christine:
Morning Rain (Eh.)
Warm Ways (Zzzz.....)
Sugar Daddy
Lindsey:
Not That Funny
What's the World Coming To
Stevie:
When I See You Again
The Second Time
Silver Girl
Rick:
Stand on the Rock
Billy:
Hard Feelings

\Have you heard this song live?
I think it totally rocks.

I'm starting to appreciate WTWCT a lot more now - it grows on you if you give it a chance. I use to always start the SYW CD with Murrow, but not anymore.
And I'm loathe to admit it but I was playing SYW on a stereo and Silver Girl sounded a lot different than it did thru my headphones and - ugh, dare I say it - I think I enjoyed it. :D
Warm Ways (Zzzz.....)
No arguments there.
My bottom-list-ers (odd phrase that one :p ) are probably:
Christine - Only Over You <--- Angel, please do go.
Lindsey - Can't Go Back <-- OK it's not all that bad, but the jangling guitars at the end seriously grate on my brain.
Monday Morning - bleugh. How about calling it 'Mundane Melody' or 'Mediocre Melancholy' instead. I'm not surprised some people mistakenly call it 'Monday Mourning' - I feel the same! :o (hehe I'm only hamming it up, no hard feelings)
Stevie - Welcome to the Room Sara... However, take out Stevie's voice and lyrics and what's left isn't too bad.

I'll just do the Rumours line-up:
Christine:
Hold Me
Mystified (good lord...)
Think About Me (never grabbed me at all)
Sugar Daddy (love the candy, hate the song)
Warm Ways (an insomniacs cure...)
Lindsey:
ALL of his Mirage tunes (except Oh Diane)
What Makes You Think You're the One (take some damn ritalin)
My Little Demon (actually, it's so bad that it's good)
Not That Funny (feh...)
Peacekeeper (catchy, but not up to par)
Lindsey Solo:
Trouble (never tickled my fancy AT ALL)
It Was I (not bad and I do listen to it, but something just isn't right)
DW Suite (good lord)
ALL of his Stones covers from GOS
Stevie:
WHEN I SEE YOU AGAIN (sounds like she forgot how to sing AND write)
The Second Time (passable lyrics, awful vocal and music)
No Questions Asked (this was on the "Very Best of..."?!)
Welcome to the Room...Sara (hopefully Sara stayed outta this room)
Thrown Down (y'all know my position on this)
Stevie Solo:
GHOSTS (you couldn't pay me to listen to it)
Sister Honey (good reason not to do coke)
I Sing For the Things (and I pray for your good judgement)
ALL of Street Angel (except for Greta and Blue Denim)
After the Glitter Fades (boring as all hell)
Two Kinds of Love (love like this should be punishable by law)
That's it for now! :wavey:
The Chain
01-17-2004, 10:20 PM
Stevie:
Fire Burning ) I have to be in a certain mood, either that, or it's growing on me
Affairs of The Heart
Landslide (Studio) - Sorry, I really enjoy The Dance versions, but I honestly don't care for the studio
The Nightmare- eek
Gate And Garden
I Will Run To You- Sorry again, I really cannot stand this song
When I see you Again
To tell you the truth , I've only listened to four songs on TOSOTM...
Lindsey-
Murrow
Walk A Thin Line
Steal Your Heart Away
Family Man
Big Love Live
That's All For Everyone
Christine
Mystified
Do You Know- The chorus is nice, though
So Excited

I've heard much more FM than this, but I'm not really in the mood to look at the CDs I have to select my least faves, etc.
Lindsey-
Not That Funny
Monday Morning
Red Rover
Bwana (Who/what/where and most of all... WHY?!)
Family Man
Empire State
All My Sorrows
Chris-
One More Night
Homeward Bound
Only Over You
So Excited
Just Crazy Love
Don't Stop (sick of it)
Morning Rain (odd. but ok at times. but it's still weird.)
Stevie-
WISYA
Illume
Silver Girl
OMBTR&RS
All of Street Angel except Blue Denim
Bella Donna
ATGF (Cliche. Da da.)
EDIT: I keep coming up with more I don't like... I guess it's because I'm not in that much of a FM mood as of late... But I'll stop adding my least faves for now... hehe.
Lindsey
- Family Man...I've tried and tried and I can't stand to listen through the whole song. I did today just because I was too lazy to get up.
- Big Love (TITN)...The live version is okay, although getting a little anoying...but the studio version screams 80s!
Stevie
- No Questions Asked...Yeah I like it less and less every time
- Kind Of Woman...There's one part I like and then it gets boring
- The Highway Man...Sorry...y'all probably like it but it bores me so I usually end Bella Donna with 'Outside The Rain'
Christine
- Oh Daddy...shudder
I haven't heard all of their material like many of you...so I'm sure there will be more to come. I'm waiting for my record player to be fixed so I can finally listen to the white album. Can't wait!

I need to add Homeward Bound to my Christine list...I just do NOT like her voice on that...she sounds like a man. It's just too deep. Ugh. :distress:
Joe, I do like WTWCT a lot better than I did on Day 1, but it's just that I prefer crazy, weird Lindsey (Red Rover. LOL) to plain songs for the most part.

- Second Hand News (Same as MM, but live however, is a different story!)
- That's All For Everyone (Good! That's all I could handle! I love Lindsey's stuff on Tusk, except this one, I've always thought it was boring)
- Oh Diane (Not my taste)
- Caroline (Never cared for the lyrics, the music is good tho)
Stevie:
- Welcome To The Room...Sara
- Wild Heart
- The Highwayman
- Sable On Blonde
- Affairs of the Heart

Christine:
- Warm Ways
- One More Night (My absolute least favorite of hers ever!)

FM related first:
Stevie:
Paper Doll
Everything on BTM (actaully I don't care for this album at all so it's not just Stevie)
SYW (it's okay, but I really think it sounds too much like a Chris song for me, Smile at You (demo is a different story though).
Haven't actually heard Tango yet, I just bought it so I'm sure this will change just based on lyrics.
Lindsey:
Family Man (awful, cruel and unusual punishment)
Murrow (skip)
WTWCT (rather generic)
Red Rover (to odd)
No real opinion on Tango and Mirage obscure tunes since I have only heard Mirage once and haven't heard Tango yet.
Chris:
Hold Me (just not for me)
Skies the Limit (ditto)
Solo (I can only do Stevie)
Usually I dislike about 1/2 songs per album
L&L (I don't hate this it's just soooo sappy and it sounds like she worked way to long on it)
Beauty and the Beast (another sappy, although okay live)
If I Were You (I would have cut it)
Most of TOSOTM (except ROF and WLT)
Won't ever listen to Street Angel (I especially dislike the title song)
Desert Angel (torture)
Loves a Hard Game to Play
That Made Me Stronger (eeek)
Rose Garden (can we get anymore depressing?)

Only rating their Fleetwood Mac works:
Lindsey Buckingham:
Not That Funny (only the original TUSK studio cut; I LOVE the live versions)
Christine McVie::
None
Stevie Nicks::
The Second Time (Her absolutely worst ever, IMO)
Welcome To The Room...Sara (Until I heard Second Time, this was)
Silver Girl (just, "ugh")
Bob Welch:
None (I USED to not care for "Silver Heels" or "She's Changing Me", but they both have considerably grown on me)
Danny Kirwan:
When You Say (Not even Christine Perfect's cover version could save this song)
Peter Green:
None
Jeremy Spencer:
(nothing individually is all that bad, but when you put 3 or 4 very similarly sounding Elmore James covers on the same album, they get tedious)
Billy Burnette:
None
Rick Vito:
The Second Time (Well, he is credited as co-writer, so I gotta poke a stick at him for that)
Dave Mason:
None (his two songs with Fleetwood Mac aren't really that great, but they're quite a bit better than anything on his previous two solo albums before joining FMac)

Wow, really. I feel exactly the opposite. On the live version, egads!, all that screaming at the end. It's embarrassing. I, quite literally, am embarassed FOR Lindsey, when friends watch the Mirage video.

I don't see why Lindsey can't be over the top. Stevie can do her "witchy" dancing and howling, etc., but Lindsey can't go nutsos on NTF.
FTR, I'm not trying to fight with anyone, I just see a double standard here. EVERYONE should go crazy.
But then again, some people were appalled at Lindsey's guitar antics this tour...while many (like myself of course. Hehe) REVELED in it.

I can actually only think of two right now...
Go Insane, from The Dance, I used to love, but soon got sick of because it was the only FM song my 10 year old brother would listen to when his favorite band was Skillet. *shudders*
Goodbye Baby was kind of hard for me to accept because I'm very pro-life and it was hard enough just knowing that Stevie had an abortion, much less hear her singing about it.
I haven't listened to Behind The Mask in quite a while, so I'll probably get back to you on that.
I haven't listened to too much of the Peter Green/Bob Welch eras, and I shamefully do not own Time, but once I start playing gigs again and get some money I'll gain full Mac fandom.

Warning - I am not fighting. I am just explaining my point of view!!
I agree LB should be "allowed" (as if we could stop him  ) to go over the top just as much as anyone. This particular performance, however, just does not look or sound good to me and apparently others - the playing is not that great and he is not in any key I have ever heard
I mean Stevie just to me does not look as silly when she is doing her schtick as LB does here. Also, on the SYW tour, I just did not find LB's wild gestures coherent or fluid like Stevie's are/were. I mean even in Stevie's panty revealing, listing spin in the SOTM Mirage video, La Nicks at least has something that makes me want to watch that trainwreck  I cannot say the same for LB's NTF or his monkey dancing at the beginning of SB on this tour. I guess for me it is that I think Stevie's stuff kind of relates to the song while I think LB's does not. I mean I thought for a second when I first saw it that LB was mocking Stevie during the monkey dancing at the beginning of SB on this last tour. Also, Stevie dresses almost in a costume that time has lead us to believe will contain a show. LB has no costume.
Note: This is just my opinion.
Finally, Stevie and LB are great no matter what they do. Mick, on the other hand, should stay behind that drum kit

Okay, I see your point, but I don't look at stuff that way, I guess...when you're speaking about how the dancing/twirling compliments the song.
I see it as they express themselves in different ways...her through her twirling/dancing and he with his guitar/crazy nut routine.
When he does that silly dance before Stand Back, I look at that as there's so much time before Miss Stevie comes out and he wanted to DO something, not just stand there waiting for her to come out. But, what do I know? LOL

I'll make it short because I was logged out.
Peter Green: I've developed a deep hateful feeling about "Long Grey Mare". I don't know why, though. I like almost all of his other FM songs.
Jeremy Spencer: Agreed with chiliD; after a few Elvis/Perkins impersonations you can really get tired. I'm not a huge fan of "Someone's (Somebody's?) Going To Have Their Head Kicked In Tonight" either. Other than that I like his job, especially on Kiln House.
Danny Kirwan: "When You Say", no doubt about it.
Bob Welch: I think I'm the only one in the bunch who detests "The Ghost" with passion. Don't precisely know why, though... I like the rest of the stuff Bob did with Fleetwood Mac.
Christine McVie: Love all of her work EXCEPT for that atrocity called "Only Over You", which suffers from awful arrangement, melody and lyrics. Why, Christine?
Lindsey Buckingham: Let 'em come... I think my biggest complaints are in this field: "Oh Diane" (blah); "Empire State" (yuck); "Family Man" (why did everyone think that this was a real song, and furthermore, good enough to be a single, is beyond me... it is, with my biggest respect of Lindsey, a piece of garbage); "Caroline" (awful lyrics); "Murrow Turning Over In His Grave"; "My Little Demon" and the studio version of "Come". Ugh. I thought there were more -- but I actually love his stuff in Tusk. :)
Stevie Nicks: Before last year it was "When I See You Again". But this year, "Silver Girl" tops every list of bad songs. It's terrible.
Billy Burnette: "I Got It In For You". A lesson of just how many times can you repeat a phrase in a song if they give you three or four minutes. He says this phrase even more than Stevie says 'whatsdamattababy' on "When I See You Again". Argh.
.........
I make no judgement over Bob Weston ("Caught In The Rain" is great), Dave Walker (blah), Rick Vito (made one GREAT contribution to BTM and was a key member in the two tours he was involved in) or Bekka Bramlett (wonder if she ever did write those songs for Time) only because the reduced number of songs they did for the band.

I guess maybe it is because Stevie for as long as I can remember (and we are talking at least 1977 here  ) has always been out there with her dancing. LB on the other hand has always been a little more reserved than SN (which is not saying much, esp. in the 70's and early 80's  ) Also, it could be that SN studied dancing and ballet and it just seems natural to her. LB on the other hand does not to me look like he is dancing to the song. A good example is Tusk. He looks great when he is Tusking people and that little slow dancing thing that they have been doing of late looks good and is in sync with the rhythm of the song. His pre-SB dancing on the other hand is rhythmless to me - that is why I initially thought LB was mocking Stevie with it a la the New Zealand Tisk tour show.
I, too, have concluded LB was bored and began that pre-SB dance while waiting for SN. Also, LB does it at every show - so SN muct not have a problem with it
Again - all my opinion

Yes, Stevie has her own way of dancing - I like it. it reminds me of the screen goddesses of the 20's doing their best vamp dances a la Theda Bara (actually the teens there).

A wooden legged midget with concrete blocks attached to the bases could dance better. She just perpetuates the stereotype that white folk can't dance!

But then again, some people were appalled at Lindsey's guitar antics this tour...while many (like myself of course. Hehe) REVELED in it.
Weird.
I don't begrudge anyone their ability to GO CRAZY - it is just a little bit too crazy, that's all. I would like it if it didn't go on for so long, I think. And I agree with you, Strand, that there doesn't seem to be much that is "musical" about his antics during this song.
I guess I would put this in the same category of Stevie during her Red Rocks video - when she is growling and clearly high on coke.
Now that I think about it, I probably have this viewpoint because he just seems so out of control, and I guess to me, it seems like the music is suffering. I have a hard time watching the Red Rocks video, too, just because it kinda makes me sad that Stevie was so coked out and such a mess during that time.

When I found out that Stevie had (probably...do we know for sure?) an abortion I was a little taken back, because I too think it's wrong. (please let's not get into a big discussion about abortion) But it was such a long time ago and I think it's something she regrets judging from the song(s?....I think Sara could be a little bit about it...it's almost like a lullabye) she wrote about it.
But I can separate the tallent and the great people that Stevie and the band are. They've all done things that are "wrong" to one person or another right? It's not our place to judge.
Anyways...when I first downloaded Goodbye Baby I didn't like it. It felt like something was off with the timing. But now I love it and it makes me so sad...but Say Goodbye is better ;)

Yup. When my mom recently got mad at me for not telling her Rumours was such a coke invested album, I told her that in most cases you can't like musicans for the things they do; that's why they're called musicans, not role models for every person who hears their music. If everyone who was anti-drug boycotted everyone who did/does drugs, there would be no rockn'roll today as we know it... then when that moral backfired, I blackmailed her with her David Alan Coe fandom.

WORD.
Remember...she loves performing Angel because It makes her feel like an old time dance hall girl...THAT is Stevie's total vibe. She high kicks her ASS off and it rocks. Lindsey? Likes to hump his guitar and run across the stage. That's his whole schtick. It's a hell of a lot better than seeing two people on stage just standing there, IMO. So, keep kicking and um..humping. WOOT.
And as far as the whole, "she studied ballet, why can't she dance?" Well, I can't think of any song on this tour that would require her to take a flying leap across the stage. Ballet= a hell of a lot different than tap & jazz.

Empire State

Red Rover
Stevie:
(the chimpanzee song from "Street Angel"...the rest of the album really isn't that bad in my eyes)
When I See You Again
The Second Time
Christine:
Only Over You
Wish You Were Here
(no "Time" songs here either...I think they happen to be quite good)

I LOVE Stevie and I like LB very very much, but I have to heartily second the motion that the live Not That Funny video performance are EMBARASSING, especially to non-FM fans. And LB going crazy is different from SN going crazy, especially during her heyday. Her movements were fluid and graceful and even her crazy speaking-in-tongues singing was riveting. I think LB is pretty riveting in concert these days, but the screaming in "Not That Funny" was just plain awful, and the song to begin with is not one of his best, as he seemed to think it was.
My bottomdwellers:
Bob Welch:
The City
Christine McVie:
One More Night
Sooner or Later
Heart of Stone
Lindsey Buckingham:
Not That Funny
Save Me a Place
Family Man
Empire State
Stevie Nicks:
Thousand Days
Love is Like a River
title track of Street Angel
I like all of her FM tracks, although vocals on When I See You Again could be better.
Yes, I like "Second Time," I don't get the big turn-off, same with "Silver Girl," I think it's a fine, mellow song.

Yeah! I love "worst of" threads!
Bob
"Bright Fire" (Zzzzzzzz.....)
"Revelation" (Zzzzzzzzzz....)
Danny
"Sands Of Time" (Zzzzz.......)
"Woman Of A Thousand Years" (major Zzzzzzzzzzz.....)
Christine
"Oh Daddy" (Zzzzzzzzz....)
"The Way I Feel" (Zzzzzzzzzz...)
"Honey Hi" (annoying)
And HEY! I LIKE "Warm Ways!" :D
I'm stopping with the zzzz's, most of the songs I pick I pick because they're boring.
Lindsey
"Book Of Love"
"Eyes Of The World"
"Oh Diane" (BLEEEECH!!!!)
"Not That Funny"
"I Know I'm Not Wrong" (he should have noticed that he already wrote "Not That Funny" one time already on Tusk)
"Not That Funny"
"Walk A Thin Line"
"What's The World Coming To"
"Come"
"Bleed To Love Her"
Stevie
"Gold Dust Woman" (great lyrics but the music goes nowhere)
"Beautiful Child"
"Seven Wonders"
studio "Rhiannon"
"Welcome To The Room Sara"
Every song of hers on Say You Will besides the title track
I didn't include "When I See You Again" because I actually get a kick out of that one. :)

"Sentimental Lady" is absolutely dreadful. Even with Christine's background vocals on it. There's so much sap in that one, it ruined my speakers.
The studio version of "Rhiannon" never did much for me, but I don't hate it. I love, love, love the live versions...especially the more recent ones (from The Dance and the SYW tour).
From Christine, I've never liked "Love in Store." I didn't particularly care for "Sugar Daddy" either, but I'm re-thinking that one ;)
I honestly can't say that I dislike anything that I've heard by Lindsey, with the possible exception of "Oh Diane." Everything of his on Tusk, TITN, and SYW is brilliant, IMO.

SO WHY THE H*LL CAN I READ "not that funny" ON YOUR LIST?
(I'm just amazed, 'cause I normally agree with you.)
That is noise-pop avant-la-lettre, and to be honest, one of my all time favorite lindsey-tunes, because he experiments on so many levels (rythm, pace, layers, sounds, melody), and still keeps the song in line.
If I had to play ONE song of tusk that defines the approach of lindsey to "push the envelope" in this band during that time I'd pick this one!

Well, I don't HATE any LB songs, it's just on the bottom of my love list. LOL In concert, it really comes to life because he is gettin' all weird and stuff. It IS a very weird song, but not one of my fave weird songs.
I personally love Lindsey's performance of "Not that Funny" from the Mirage tour. But that's probably because I'm a female who finds him attractive. ;)
Bottom listers?
Christine:
Honey Hi
Mystified
Everywhere
Stevie:
Welcome to the Room, Sara
When I See You Again
Lindsey:
Not That Funny
WMYTYTO
I Know I'm Not Wrong
Empire State
Oh Diane
I truly love all of Stevie's contributions to FM in general, besides her songs on Tango (Seven Wonders is excluded, it is wonderful). As far as Lindsey's stuff goes, it may look like from my list that I don't enjoy Tusk, when in fact I do, I just don't like Not That Funny on the album and I Know I'm Not Wrong (they do sound the same!) and WMYTYTO is just annoying to me. I do like some of his "experimental" things on that record, including "The Ledge," and "That's All For Everyone." And my fave LB song of all is on Tusk-- that would be "Save Me a Place." His voice (melody part) on that is just gorgeous.

I'm a male who usually fancies females but still I love the mirage-live performance of Not that funny,
Because I totally love the studio-cut And I think in the liveperformance he takes it to a different level and makes it as "rock and roll" as you can get.
So maybe for you there are also non-hormonal reasons why you love it?:D

Here's my list:
Lindsey:
Everything on Go Insane (except the title track, Loving Cup, and Slow Dancing)
Say Goodbye (now, no one hurt me, it just doesn't click with me)
Peacekeeper (kinda tired of it)
Big Love "studio version" (not for it, but kicks some butt live!)
Christine:
Honey Hi (it is annoying!)
Oh Daddy (it isn't one of her best)
Stevie:
Dreams (no one kick me for this either, it just doesn't click)
This is all that I can think of for now.

To each his own I guess. But I love some of the songs you guys hate.
Mystified - beutiful harmonies and the chord change at the end of the guitar solo blows me away.
Empire State - very interesting experimentation of guitar sounds and great backup harmony during the chorus.
Walk a thin Line - Love it
Honey Hi - those harmonies are F ing brilliant, especially at the end.
I could go on and on:

Thats enough for me yeah yeah yeah ... no no
Save me a place - I'm starting to appreciate
Seven Wonders - I like the song but Stevie's vocals ugh

Okay, I'll do one song for each singer/songwriter:
Peter - Closing My Eyes.
Jeremy - Blood On The Floor. (WAY too campy)
Danny - When You Say.
Dave W. - The Derelict.
Weston - Forever (hate the song, and he was co-credited)
Welch - Safe Harbour.
Rick - Stand On The Rocks (okay, so that's his ONLY song)
Billy - When It Comes To Love (probably a production problem)
Dave M. - I Wonder Why (one of my least fave Mason songs ever)
Bekka - Nothing Without You (only because Delaney did it better)
Christine - Prove Your Love.
Stevie - When I See You Again. (Does anybody like this one???)
Lindsey - Empire State
As for Mick and John, I really like the songs they're credited/co-credited with writing.
