Christine Question

We all know that Stevie got of Drugs in 86-87... I don't remember. I was just curious when Christine got of whatever she did (cocaine, ect)... My guess is, in 84... During her solo career. I'm probably wrong, but does anyone now?

I could swear I just read in a pretty current interview or review that Stevie Chris and Mick were the ones really into the coke-that John and Lindsey were much more recreational. I know for sure Stevie and Mick were listed (why else would she have boinked Skeletor?) but I think Chris was too. Anyone remember seeing this interview?

Christine was most definately a major cokehead. Ever hear the stories of the huge velvet purse of coke they shared making Rumours?

I believe I read somewhere that Christine stopped around the time of Mirage because she saw how it was totally wrecking everybody else but continued drinking. From looking at old pics you'd think she had a bottle of wine glued to her.

So as far as the coke I believe she kicked it in the early 80's. As far as alcohol, she was still drinking through Time, which was a reason she initially retired. I found some live webchat archive from right when she left the band around Time and when asked if she would be touring, and the response was very close to "Being on the road is really rough at my age....I have a really hard time sleeping somewhere different every night and I'll end up drinking a bottle of wine so I can fall asleep and then I'll just be hungover and even more miserable."

As far as Stevie we all know about her. LOL Only coke could make you want to sleep with Mick Fleetwood. I've been there before though so I could see how she wasn't thinking straight. I'll admit that coke and drinking combined DOES make the ugliest mothereffer look goddang gorgeous. Talk about waking up and screaming to myself, "Why, oh WHY did I do that!!!!" :laugh:

ugh....i'm cringing about my own memories of that....thank god i've gotten older and wiser.

but i don't think Mick is that bad...he's scarier without the beard though.

i think she's still smoking and drinking...i saw her with a cigarette on some Dance backstage footage...and on the Best Buy Dance cd she said she still enjoys a glass of wine (or two or three...).

yes....and i don't remember where it was from or who was making those claims....i'm thinking it may have been from Lindsey.

I am sure I remember Stevie mentioning that Christine also has a hole in her nose due to cocaine use... but it is smaller than the 'belt-sized' one in Stevie's nose.

I haven't seen the TUSK doc, is their a Video/DVD of that anywhere I can get hold of it?

I didn't think Christine was into drugs either, there's not much written about it, but her and Stevie did share a Condo in Salsalito (sorry if I've spelt it wrong, only going off what I've heard), USA and it was during the Rumours Album they were producing so I'm sure there were times when the two of them probably did drugs, but not certain, just a guess. It was a very tough time for them all during RUMOURS.

YOU HAVE WEIRD TASTE! lol, I think Mick has a brilliant personality and is a brilliant musician but in the looks and physique department, he dipped out. Coke or no coke, imagine all that wirey hair getting in the way yukkkkkkkk. Ha ha, sorry Mick fans but he's best sticking to his drum kit. :)

I agree. I think he's old and ugly now, but back in the 70's he wasn't that bad. He looked better than Lindsey did with that rat's nest of an afro.

I like Mick in the Sara video from the Tusk Documentary(?). He's really sweaty, but he looks kinda cute.

I think some people just age better than others. Look at Lindsey, and Christine. I think they both look great. Poor John and Mick(John especially), haven't fared well at all. Don't attack me, but I don't think Stevie has aged that well, either. I watched Mirage last night, and she was stunning back then. She always looks so tired now.

The pub part-I can't remember the link. It was part of an interview with George Hawkins. There's a link somewhere among these many posts. About 7-10 days ago. Mostly about her gardening, and owning a pub now.

No, I don't think she owns a pub. George Hawkings in his Q & A here on this website mentioned that she occasionally spent time in a pub near where she lives. When some people misunderstood his remarks, he said that she didn't actually own it, just that she occasionally spent time time there.

I think all 5 used cocaine to varying degrees. But, I agree that Christine's drug was mostly alcohol. I have an old British magazine interview that she did in the late 60's before she ever joined Fleetwood Mac and she talked about her drinking even then. Any of her cocaine use was probably during the Dennis Wilson years. She has described those 2 years as the most bizarre 2 years of her life. Mick also hints a little about this in his book.

Also, I think that 25 million pounds could come to almost 40 million U.S. dollars. Not bad.:)

I think Christine joined in the Sex & Drugs & Rock 'n Roll with enthusiasm just like the rest of them.

I think as she grew older she realised she couldn't keep on with that kind of lifestyle and slowed down a little.

From what Mick has been quoted as saying one of the reasons she didn't want to tour again was that she didn't want to get sucked back into the rock 'n roll craziness.

I don't think she ever owned the pub. George Hawkins did clarify that on his Q&A. She probably enjoys having a friendly 'local' to visit near her home in Kent.

Has anyone heard anymore about her solo album? Will we ever see it? My quess is that we wont. I don't think many record companies would release an album without the artist doing some promotion for it. Maybe not a big tour but she'll have to do some interviews at least.

I won't attack you, but just refer you to bellablue's photos taken at the AHI Benefit in another thread on this forum. Now tell me Stevie hasn't aged well. I think she looks stunningly beautiful. Sure she doesn't look like she did 20 years ago, but she has aged well, very well.


As far as the drug use, I would say it'd be safe to assume that every band member did their fair share of cocaine and alcohol consumption, including Christine. It was just too available at the time and back then the culture was much more "hip" on doing drugs. Drug and alcohol use/abuse was a lot more acceptable. Of all the band members, Stevie seemed to be the one "picked on" most for her cocaine abuse. I guess that her high profile rehab at Betty Ford brought it to the attention of a lot of people. Not to mention her candid mention of it in interviews she did. My question is, if you start doing cocaine, I would assume it is very addicting and you couldn't stop unless you went through some sort of rehab program. Is it safe to say that the other band members just quietly got cleaned up? Or is it possible to kick it on your own?

I actually agree with you there. I can't help noticing that she looks a bit "straight faced" like she's had surgery (gonna get slaughtered now) or something and I think it's kind of ruined her natural gentle, feminine look. I suppose a lot of stars have it done but her jawline looks different sort of squarer, does anyone agree or know if she's had cosmetic surgery? I feel a bit sad that the "natural Stevie" look hasn't transformed the way I thought she would during her maturer years. I know she's 55ish and still looks dam good for her age but these are just my views on the way she looks now.

If you were a member of Fleetwood Mac in like 1978, you were mood-altering. Another point I want to make is that I think that anxiety over being onstage also drove the members of FM to keep doing drugs. I think each one of them -- John, Christine, Lindsey, Stevie & even Mick -- is essentially not an extrovert & gets very nervous before going onstage. I think the coke or the wine or the vodka helped soothe nerves & calm butterflies in the stomach.

I think Stevie's cocaine use far outpaced that of most of the other members, with the possible exception of Mick. But the reason for that might be that she was performing & touring far more than the others were, & therefore had to deal with her anxieties a lot more frequently. If you're Lindsey & you're doing a little coke, you do some for a couple of months in 1982 to tour, & after that you're not up onstage for many years to come. Whereas if you're Stevie, you do your coke in 1982, & again in 1983, & again in 1984 to start your third album (imagine the pressure there), & again in 1985, & again in 1986, etc. Plus, she's hanging around other musicians a lot more because they help her cut demos & albums & or they invite her to guest at their gigs, whereas Lindsey & Christine do a lot less of that party scene over the years -- a LOT less. Lindsey takes his music into his basement & shuts the door, & Chris just hangs around at home swimming & gardening. But Stevie's out jetsetting almost continually for decades. It's no wonder she bagged more blow.
