Ok, the show just started...
You've gotta love Stevie's sense of humor. I love the way she burst out laughing hysterically when Jimmy Kimmel said it didn't look like they were alive and well. I love her, that was awesome .
No matter how good technology gets, satellite delays always manage to make things awkward
I didn't like the shot of them in the room. The camera was too far away from them, you could barely see them.

Half hour into the show, I agree with what Brian said...it's pretty mindless. I hope they perform soon.

Who woulda thought Pink could actually sing. Definitely a WISE career move, choosing to do that acoustic song.

I'm thrilled they won, but they could show a little emotion, you know?? I realize it's like 3AM in Germany, but c'mon guys, you just won a frickin' award!?! Instead of being excited they're acting like a bunch of stiffs!

they won, and we on the west coast finally got to see the west coast show on tape delay (oh the irony). I think Lindsey desperatly needed some coffee, expresso anyone? As for John are we sure he wasn't another cardboard cut out? Can't say I am thrilled about PK, but kinda figured it was that or SYW, really suprised they won though since I thought it was based on radio among other things and I was figuring it would go to Matchbox 20. Glad it went the Mac, more press for them:) Oh and thank goodness Stevie said something about thanking the fans, at least her and Mick seemed excited, yeah I know time change and all but really!

Those saying they looked tired and unexcited:

It was 3am or something, and they had almost certainly been told they were going to win. You could tell from reading Lindsey that he knew they had won, given the scenario.
So in the context, I think they did alright in terms of vivacity.

Didn't you hear Mick? "We're alive and well!" :)

My reaction when they won: "WOO-HOOO!!!" :blob2:

My reaction when I heard the first notes of "Peacekeeper": "Aw, crap, 'Peacekeeper' again!"

Lindsey could have mustered some enthusiasm for the song (I hope he was more energetic for the rest of the concert), but Stevie was great... she sounded fantastic, and she was wonderfully animated.

She was also adorable in the live feed clips. :D

Well, my friends kept telling me that FM would win because Nov. 16 is my birthday and they are my favorite band...looks like they were right! I actually screamed and clapped so loud the neighbors heard me. I actually didn't think the AMA's would have the good sense to actually award this to the band that deserved it. I thought Matchbox would win. I was DELIGHTFULLY proven wrong. Could this mean a Grammy may happen?

I was floored by that performance, totally impressed by how well she delivered it, showing off some range in the process. It actually took me by surprising since I find most of her songs bland and somewhat irritating. It was, by far, the best performance of the night. Go Pink.

Glad FM took the Favorite Band award. Hopefully, it will translate into new album sales and spark some interest in the new singles at radio (I know, longshot). On that token, I thought it was a HUGE marketing mistake that they showed the Peacekeeper clip (great for us fans, in terms of collecting). They should have taped a separate performance just for the show. No one would have known the difference. Steal Your Heart Away might have been a good choice since it's already been played live, a la SoundStage.

Loved the Stevie leg-slapping moment. And her kooky laugh. She's so cute.

OK, I fell asleep shortly after starting this thread (I think it was Rod Stewart that put me to sleep because it's the last thing I remember) so I missed like everything
Can someone post a list of who they were up against (the other nominees in their category)? And if anyone knows where I might be able to check out their performance online, that would be awesome. :D

Well in all honesty, they ARE old...and they had to be exhausted. I am 23 and if I were in their shoes at that point, I'd be half-dead looking too. Plus, you have to figure the tape delay in there too....they were quite obviously several seconds off, so everything was jumbled (talking when Jimmy Kimmel was talking, etc...). And after listening to Macy Gray RAMBLE on and ON , I didn't really care to hear anyone talk a lot.

Well, really...just listen to any Peacekeeper bootleg from this year, and there you have the performance. It's not a bad song, but on stage it's about the same every time. Personally, I'm glad they showed PK over something old...it would have been a HUGE mistake to go with Rhiannon, GYOW, Don't Stop, or Landslide for the umteenth time.

On the other hand, if Stevie would have a greater role in Come, that would have just blown the audience away...but they needed something short with the full band, so PK it was.

Congradulations to Fleetwood Mac on their AMA win...

It did look like Lindsey was performing in his sleep...and they do look beat from this past tour...but I give credit where credit is due...I just hope after this tour they get the rest they truly deserve and look forward to hearing great things in the future.

It was obvious that they would win ten minutes into the show when Kimmel spoke to them via satellite; not exactly suspenseful! Stevie was cute as a button, Mick was his usual, Lindsey seemed to have died yesterday but they figured why not throw his corpse into a chair, and John was once again the strong and silent type.

They didn’t seem enthused about winnning and Lindsey needs some new speeches *pronto.* The taped performance of Peacekeeper was...played. It was just awful, IMO. I don’t know if it was like this for the rest of you, but the sound mix was absolutely terrible. I could barely hear Stevie (thank god, because when I did, I didn’t like what I heard) and towards the end of the song, you could hear the “voices” that are in the Buffalo 5-15-03 boot. They all looked great, though.

As for the show itself, it was pure torture!!! I watched it to see FM, Sheryl Crow, Pink, and Kid Rock and that’s it. Kid Rock SUCKED, FM was mediocre (but that was due in part to the mix), Sheryl Crow was herself, and Pink tore the roof off of the place, she was amazing. The girl from Evanescence was awesome, too. Some musings I had while watching:

-Jimmy Kimmel is the most obnoxious celeb ever. He even beats Tom Arnold.
-Clay and Rubben were NOT meant to sing together. They have no harmony or spark whatsoever.
-Clay needs to eat a pork sandwich before he blows away with the Santa Ana winds.
-Britney Spears lipsynched her entire song and probably disappointed a lot of males because no navel was in sight.
-Dennis Franz is quite diminutive and round. Not a good combo.
-Paula Abdul needs several Botox injections. I could store chicken breasts in her sagging cheeks.
-Justin Timberlake is not sexy at all and I don’t see why people think so. He should at least have some body weight and a good haircut before people believe so.
-Ashanti seems like a diva. I bet she demands that the red carpet is rolled out for her every time she needs to use the john.
-Temporary body art is *so* passe and 1998.
-Anorexic chests do not look good in J Lo knock-off dresses.
-Sean Paul needs to take speech therapy.
-Hilary Duff looked like a cross between Stevie Nicks and a streetwalker.
-Toby Keith needs a swift kick in the ass.
-If I was sitting behind Tim McGraw, I would’ve ripped that damn hat off of him. Rude schmuck.
-Kid Rock needs to stop drinking cheap liquor. He’s rich enough to buy top-shelf liquor.

LOL, dissention! I agree with you about Toby Keith. He's so obnoxious. But I disagree about Tim McGraw. I'd much rather look at the big hat than his big bald spot. He looks cute with the hat, IMO, and kinda homely without it.

BTW- Anyone else love Pink's eye makeup? I thought it was awesome how the sparkles were formed like tears...making her eyes look sad. It had a dramatic effect and was glamorous at the same time. Love it.

I agree - I'm not really into how half of them were dressed with all that bizzare 'junk-effect' accessorising, but she for one looked really striking.

I just got back from watching it on my TV - Australian broadcast (it's midnight here). It was great to see Peacekeeper on a big screen for once. It could just be the colour settings on my TV, but did anyone notice how when they zoomed out towards the end, the blue background of the stage coupled with blue lighting gave the effect that Lindsey's fro disappeared and he looked like Michael Stipe?

Oh and "Let's hope that the German government releases them soon." I didn't get it, but it was funny.

Oh and Cheryl Hines had a bit!! w00t. I love CYE.

I thought Pink, Sheryl, and Alan whatshisname (country singer) were excellent.
Jimmy Kimmel is not amusing.
Clay and Reuben: It was like watching Ren and Stimpy try to out-sing each other.
Ans before they ask Monica to do the red carpet show, she needs to learn another question to ask. She asked everybody Who are you looking forward to seeing tonight? and when they'd say nobody in particular, she'd look stuck for words.
Most of the night was unbearable.

LOL at your comments, Dissention...that chick in the J-Lo knockoff has what I call "east-west-breasts," they point in 2 different directions. You're right, she should NOT be displaying those unsupported puppies - she needs a Wonderbra, stat!

Pink was AMAZING....and that crack about "someone who can actually sing" by Kimmel...was GREATNESS.

Was that a slam toward Britney? Does she EVER sing live? Her explanation to Diane Sawyer about that was LAME! And when she thanked the audience at the end, it seemed to me that was just her way of saying "See, this microphone thingy on my head really DOES work!"

But, congrats to the Mac! Stevie was hilarious - LB and John both needed to be cattle-prodded. :p

Most of you have covered my feelings about the show, but I did want to say that a few months back, I discovered Pink could actually sing, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was flipping channels, and I cought this songwriter Tribute show on the Bravo channel. Pink sang the Janis Joplin tune "Me and Bobby McGhee" and she sounded JUST like Janis! I **** you not. She was accomapanied by that same guy on guitar as last night, and sitting on a stool just like she was at the AMA's. It was an awesome performance.

Also, I guess I have been under a rock, because I have not heard of Evanescence.... I am going out today at lunchtime and buying their album. That girl blew me away. I must find out more about this band!

Just wrong, wrong, wrong.

First of all, ten feet between the mics. just cannot work with that kind of live shot. It looked silly. AND can anyone say lighting? Secondly, LB I love you and your work and think you and it are brilliant, but please drop that song from any future t.v. gigs OR SING IT ON KEY. Finally, when John looked asleep during all shots in the interview room. He did, however, kick it in the a$$ during the performance!!!!!

My thoughts only - no more

Holy crap! They did win!!!! I was so totally thrilled and, I'll admit, shocked! I thought for sure it would be Matchbox20! I felt so bad - I was talking to a friend of mine that I work with at the time they did that award, and when I heard Fleetwood Mac, I shrieked so loud in that poor woman's ear!!!! LOL

I LOVE commentary on the award shows from you guys...Ren and Stimpy...

Yeah, Britney is lying, she NEVER sings live, it's ALWAYS lipsynching. I like her, but she is most def lying. She dances and entertains at her shows.

I think after last night, Pink's sales will go up. :)

Paula Abdul was sick, I think, she sounded krupy (how do you spell that word? LOL) and I should know, because I'm seriously fighting being sick.

Ashanti...UGH...and Hilary Duff...What was that writhing on the floor crap? She's supposed to be this lil innocent Disney girl and her outfit....okay, so she's the next Britney, while Britney is the next Madonna?

Pink was AMAZING. That girl can sing. I knew that... but to see her unplugged like that, WOW. GO GIRL.

Jimmy Kimmel is an unfunny asshole. Do you hear that clock ticking? That's his career coming to an end (his late night show is in the toilet ratings-wise)

Stevie was hilarious with her thigh slapping. Lindsey looked tired. Mick was energetic and I loved John's track pants. I don't blame them for being tired-- it was VERY late there. I'm still in disbelief that they won because I thought it was solely based on record sales. But to know that a "random selection of the music buying public" voted on the awards makes me HAPPY. :) And I know it makes them happy too-- to know so many people are supporting them still, after all this time.

Hilary Duff is a cute girl, but the writhing has got to go. Marissa and Meredith and myself were on the phone together and couldn't help put sing along.... especially when she sang "CUZ"

Sheryl Crow is gorgeous and does a GREAT job with Cat Stevens' song... she is just amazing. Kid Rock? Not so crazy about his cover of "Feel like Making love"

Toby Keith? BOO.

Macy Gray? Yup, definitely on something. Stevie should be having a nice little chat with her about saying no to drugs... MACY JUST SAY NO.

Alan Jackson? Great. And so was Ashanti and Evanescence. Sharon, I may have to go buy their CD.

My fave performance of the night? OUTKAST. <333 Andre 3000 & Big Boi. They released two separate solo albums on the same CD... sound like anyone else we know? kidding.

Yes Pink can really sing. She will be a major force if she continues to make the right career moves and stop making out with Tommy Lee.
Wouldn't it have been fabulous to hear Say Goodbye? How precious was Stevie at the begining of the show? I love to see her like that.
Lindsey looked very tired. Mick was hilarious and that's the side of him I like. "Well we are in our fifties." It cracks me up that McVie had no reaction whatsoever. Maybe it was a cardboard cutout.
Unfortunately, I missed Britney Spears. I'd lost interest in the show by then and I'd had enough of her with Diane Sawyer the other night. My lip was curled the entire time.
Jimmy Kimmel? Yeah, that's a fine replacement for Bill Maher.
That girl on the red carpet was terrible. Her top looked as though it had two footballs covering her boobs. What was that?
All in all, I thought the show was much improved over previous shows, though.

turned the channel any faster when the FM performance was over. We actually waited til Keith Urban (One of Debbie's fave & also a Fleetwood Mac fan) was shown, And he was one of the next 3 presenters afterwards for male country vocalist (Tim McGraw won which was alright but why wasnt Mr.Urban nominated when his <b>GREAT</b> album <b>"Golden Road"</b> outsold Tim's <b>"Dancehall Doctors"</b> release??)...

It was once again way <i><b>TOO</b></i> predictable to guess who would win in their respective categories, Almost all of the winners were present except Luther Vandross who won the "sympathy award" this year.

I used to think Tim McGraw didnt have much talent until I saw a episode of "Biography" about his life...Ya have to have talent to get an academic scholarship to a university for "Music" ability, Plus his concert was very entertaining...

But having seen Keith Urban live (And having some of his Official Australian releases on cd) I think K.U. is <b>MORE</b> talented...Plus he was <i><b>LOUD</b></i> as hell!!!

i'll bet that for someone who's not that much into the band and seen them performing there, mick and john were looking like one guy playing both drums and bass, they can't both have white beards, they look too much alike.

also, i thought it was rather ironic how after mick was joking about how they were still alive, stevie and lindsey were rushing to prove him wrong. c'mon guys, i'm flying to see you next week! cheer up! please!!!!!

it was a great relief that FM were on rather quickly during the show. pretty soon after PK i switched channels to watch Oz, which was much more subtle compared with some of the horrors on the AMA's. it's frightning to think that this is the best merchandise in today's american music market.

i fell asleep trying to watch it live, and suddenly woke up watching Good Morning Israel  so before i was heading (late) for school i managed to check and see they won! it just made my day, but those damn traffic jams made me miss the rerun on the afternoon  luckily enough i found it on a channel from Hong Kong in the evening
so thank you Rupert Murdoch for your international satellite coverage, tho i'd appreciate stereo broadcasing when FM are concerned next time, if that's not too difficult for you.

Okay, 3 a.m. that explains it. I was wondering why Lindsey looked and acted so pissed off (and exhausted) and why Stevie took over the acceptance speech after they won their award. BTW, Lindsey was going nowhere with that speech. I mean what's with his ever-tired, "we're in the best place we've been in creatively in a long time" speech? It's like, just thank the fans and act like you're interested, we know you're in a creative place, we've heard it a zillion times, although that bland performance of Peacekeeper sure didn't sound creatively inspired. I'm glad Stevie took over, and I think Mick added some comic relief there too. "Are we alive?" I was cracking up.

I was SO excited that they won- I honestly never expected them to be chosen (in 2003) over Matchbox 20 and 3 Doors Down. GO FM!!!

BUT--------that performance was pretty dull. They did the only song they've been performing on TV for like, a year. And that song is kinda bland live. I was talking to my friends that I eat lunch with, and they all saw the AMA's, and their only impression of FM is that performance of PK. It I wasn't already a FM fan, PK live certainly wouldn't convert me. PLUS, those alien voices were back- WTF is up with those voices? I was trying my hardest to convince them that FM really do have better songs and pull of better performances and aren't so BLAND! I guess I need to make them all come over to my house at watch The Dance :D

I had a VP at work tell me that "gee Fleetwood Mac did not seem too happy last night. I mean they won an award you think that they would look happy." I had to explain that it was about 3AM in Germany. He did not buy it.
I was not too happy to hear Peacekeeper again. Not a bad song just not any song that's going to win any non fans over.
Then I had to explain to another co-worker which one Lindsey was. LOL

:eek:OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the best gift EVER. It is so awesome to see them beat out 3 Doors Down and Matchbox Twenty for an award. I was screaming and yelling. My friend came over to watch it with me (for moral support), and we were screaming so loud. :blob1: My husband came to check on us. He said, "Well, the Mac must have won!" We were like "Oh Yeah!" I could have cried! Way to go, MAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See, this is what I am concerned about. People that are not completely familiar with Fleetwood Mac might get the wrong idea and think that they are lazy and no fun! I myself was disgusted by Lindsey's lack of emotion, everyone staring at the floor, and looking as if it was "nap time" at their nursing home. They looked like they were ready to be fed via a straw by their caregiver.

I hope this doesn't give people the wrong impression! And Peacekepper was not that great last night. Say You Will would have at least been a little better!

It's too late for that.

It's kind of up to the band to *make* people want to buy their new album and support them. Performing the bland-ness that is Peacekeeper won't do that. It was a bad performance, those damn voices were sickening, and they didn't seem enthused throughout the performance. If I was in Germany and had waited years for them to play live, I would've been pissed.

We've all been saying the same thing since April and nothing has changed. Stevie wears the same dress, they play the same song on TV every time, Lindsey is still giving his vomit-inducing speeches, and Peacekeeper still sounds ****ty on television. ;)

lmao!! (It's funny cause it's true :( )

But really, that wasn't their 'old age'. Stevie and Mick weren't showing it. I doubt that John and Lindsey gave two flying fajitas about the AMAs, really... and it showed. Lindsey of course is NOT a late night person, and so having been carted around Europe, setting up here and there, rehearsing, checking in and out of places, carrying the lion's share of the responsibility for a 2 1/2 hour performance, I bet that the ONLY thing on his mind was BED. It's no surpirse that the award is of no great interest to he or John. You know what? They should have decided to just put Stevie and Mick there. Couldn't their PR minders see how dead the other two were?
I kid you not, anybody on this board would do a better job as the band's marketer, and god knows would only want in a return a hundredth of what the 'pros' actually get.

There's a review somewhere (it was linked on burnish.net) that said something like Outkast's new album is to their last album, what Tusk was to Rumours.

I totally, totally, TOTALLY agree...

It is just RIDICULOUS that the band has such an AWFUL set of marketers and promoters.

I don't see how on earth they can actually call themselves "professional promoters" when they SUCK so bad at such an EASY job. 37 year old, multi-million dollar, multi platinum selling super-rock-band, currently consisting of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.......it's not exaclty difficult to market in a sensible way is it?!?!

I agree, and Stevie's solo career isn't handled much better. Every Day as the first single?

Sometimes I think they read this board just to see how effectively they can do the opposite.
We can't take Stevie out of BlackDress or Lindsey out of FruitoftheLoomTee, that's what the Ledgies want.
We can't book the band on Letterman, that's what the Ledgies want.
We can't release THOSE songs, that's what the Ledgies want.
We can't change the setlist, that's what the Ledgies want.
Etc., etc.

Fleetwood Mac is a sure seller, which is probably why they don't more promotion. The labels probably feel that their efforts are best aimed at the next big thing i.e. the group that's going to sell 25 million copies for them. FM has already done that and it's probably viewed as a once in a lifetime phenominon.

Dissention - what can I say ? A voice of reason and an always hysterical commentary. I lucked out and turned this swill on 5 seconds before that phoned in morgue performance. Thus, I was spared the torture that you described. The music industry is in absolute disarray and this show was proof. There is a catastrophic lack of talent and charisma in the acts being promoted. That's why the industry is not making good sales anymore.
My only retort to your comments is about Paula Abdul. I worked with her a few months ago and she looks pretty great close up in person. On top of that, she was kind, funny, and totally professional (to comment on her musical abitities is too easy a potshot even for me). She is also small enough that I could have damned near picked her up and put her in my pocket - if not for the out of scale implants she was sporting.

Sorry gldstwmn, I had to laugh at this because Britney OPENED the show. So, (I know you might not have known that) it's like you're saying you lost interest in the show before it even started! I don't know, call me weird, but it was funny to me.

The problem I find with Peacekeeper is Stevie's choice (I guess it's a choice) to sing the lower harmony instead of the higher one that she sings on the studio version. I don't know why she hugs that lower register when her voice sounds better in the higher range. To me, she seems to have a bit of bass-deafness, which is what I have. I can hardly ever hear lower harmonies or can distinguish the difference between lower notes. But I mean, for me one of the best parts of Peacekeeper was Stevie's belting "don't TELL WHY!" She doesn't do that live, and I don't know if she's off key or what, but singing lower harmony makes the song sound blah to me.

Well I am in Germany and waited years for them to play live and what I saw was an awesome show with a great sound, great playing and singing in Oberhausen. I am sure they sounded the same in Kiel. If it sounds weird on TV perhaps it's a mixing problem. I remember that I was embarassed after having seen the Summer series opening thing in March or whenever it was. People who attended the show live said it sounded good. I did not believe it- now I know that they sound good live.
As for Peacekeeper. It`s a great pop song but doesn`t translate live as good as others possibly would. (nothing beats "Come" live imo) It's live just O.K. and not great. But it surely is not bad as I can assure you after seeing it live.:wavey:
