OK, so it was called Fleetwood Mac, it was self titled, it was eponymously named, it was White, it was the one before Rumours...

About time the 'white album' got a memorable name in league with 'Rumours', 'Mirage' and 'Tango in the Night' etc. ?

It could be the first word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of those songs, it could be one of the song titles, it could be a number!

Go for it!

(If there is a lot of suggestions we could poll the most popular or repeated ones!)

I suppose Landslide, Crystal or World Turning would all work as album titles.

Around my Freshman year in high school, my friend, Deana, and I would short-handedly refer to it as 'Crystal.'
It was an easy point of reference, since Mick's holding a crystal ball on the cover, of course, and the album contains the song "Crystal."

It was only later that I found out that other fans (and the band) referred to it as "the white album."

Seriously, I think it would have been a great title. But then again, if they'd named that first album, "Say You Love Me", they really couldn't have been able to call this recent one "Say You Will", now could they? ;)

How about:

- Beardless Mick in Ugly Freakin' Album Cover Photo
- Now We Have TWO Hot Blonds
- The Album BEFORE Her Voice Will Change!

Seriously, I like titles that come from song lines rather than titles. How about:

- Mirror in the Sky (Landslide)
- Seasons to Handle (Landslide)
- Faces of Love (Crystal)
- Back Where I Belong (World Turning, and ironic for a new Mac lineup)
- Forever Love (Warm Ways)
- The Rain and The Sun (I'm So Afraid)
- On or Off the Road to Paradise (Blue Letter)

Finally, these might just be approprite:

- Triumvirate
(Now that there was a power trio of singer/songwriters)
- Incarnation
(The Mac had already had a bunch of lives)

- Jake

I bet they didn't give it a name (besides FM) because they couldn't agree on one!! Not that they fought about it, because at that point they had really just met each other and were probably just trying to make everyone happy to some degree. They didn't want to favor any one person by letting their song title be the name of the album, maybe?

I like Crystal because of the crystal ball on the cover. But then naming the album after a song from the two newest members might not have felt right at first (?)

No one likes Rhiannon as a title?

Hey Jake,
Too Funny!

I do like 'Back Where I Belong' and 'On the Road to Paradise' or 'Road to Paradise'. (They were about to enter the road to paradise with the breakthrough of Rumours, right?)

- Incarnation
(The Mac had already had a bunch of lives)

- Jake [/B]

I really would have liked 'Incarnation' as the title for the latest 2003 album. Really good!

I think you are spot on. I'd never thought of it that way before.

If I'd rename the lp I would title it "Over My Head". It was the first single from The White Album and would have been a good marketing tool, to a degree, to promote the album. The song is also indicative of the bittersweetness the band had experienced in their past(the highs and the lows). And from a premonitory stance, what was yet to come! Also from a comical viewpoint, I could just envision John thinking about Mick on the front cover; "DUDE, YOU'RE WAY OVER MY HEAD"! But mostly, I just like it as a title to the album. :)

Seriously, I think they chose "Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac" to stress they were still FM as long as John and Mick and, to a lesser extent Chris, were there. Sort of like a new beginning. Having said that, I would have chosen Rhainnon, which I know would never have happened, but it is a cool title and looks cool in prose.

Ah yes, good thinking. I'd say this was a major contender at the time.

I think World Turning would've been a great album title. Both descriptive of the personnel changes in the band, and, unknowingly, a forewarning of the rollercoaster ride they were about to encounter. If you consider the political climate in this Watergate era, it makes even more sense.

I really like the Over My Head idea. I like the fact the crystal is in fact, "over his head" on the cover photo...and how about a Chris song for a title? I mean, why not?

My sentiments exactly.

Plus, that's what John's "midget" character seems to be saying in the cover shot.

I guess it's widely thought that the band didn't give the White Album a title because they wanted it to be obvious that they were starting all over again. Which of course causes some people to confuse it with the PG's Fleetwood Mac album.

Retitling the album? Very hard to do, since the songwriters' personalities weren't in full view yet. But retrospectively, I guess a very '70s-like title would do:

"Gypsies, Goofballs, Songbirds and Warhorses"

I definitely should get some sleep before the gigs!

How about "Dreams Unwind"?

In Rhiannon on the album version you only hear her singing the line on the song as it fades out...but as we know it developed into the best verse of the song when performed live ;)

The song Rhiannon propelled the album commercially and was probably the most memorable for most people. The song thew Stevie into the spotlight when it was released, and probably changed all of their lives.

It could be interpreted several ways...It draws you in, because it's their dreams "unwinding"...in the sense that their thoughts and dreams and things close to their heart are all folded or wound into this record, and they sort of unfold or "unwind" as you hear it as the record spins (it was the seventies after all).

On another note, it would sort of be foreshadowing or ironic, because as the album came out, their dreams became unraveled...everything sort of unwound and fell apart- relationships, expectations, etc.

It engages the listener and says something about them too.

I like all that, Sonia. 'Dreams Unwind' would sure be a good title. Hmm, or what about 'Unwind'?? The songs have such a SoCal/easy listening sound, that it works on both levels. Or even 'Unwound'. <-- Ooooh I like that.

But remember that Rhiannon was being performed live with BN. I don't know if Stevie let it loose during those performances too. It sounds like she did. I think a big part of the 1975 breakthrough had to do with (a) Over My Head and SYLM being big radio hits (for once) and (b) word getting around about the live Rhiannon!

That was also my pick, and essentially my reason for picking it. And plus its just a cool-sounding album title.

I think Over My Head would have been the best title for the album. My other choice was Crystal, but since it was written by a 'newcomer' to the band (and furthermore, it was technically a cover... since Buckingham Nicks recorded it first), I wouldn't have called the album that way.
