Considering they will be in Germany on Nov. 16th, I assume this will be a live via satellite thing....Assuming this info is correct, it's a good sign toward a win!

Wow what great news! Thanks for posting this! Win or no win, this should generate some more publicity (right for the shopping season). Hopefully they'll be on fire unlike some earlier TV performances...(ie. Today Show).

How can it be "live via satalite" if they're playing a show in Germany, which something like seven time zones ahead of the the East coast of the states?

I have an icky feeling they might play WTWCT, which is not one of my favorites. I doubt it will be Thrown Down, but I'd love to be wrong. I guess it's Peacekeeper or Say You Will.
I look forward to seeing this show. I had a hunch they'd be on. And I'm anticipating that Brittney Spears might present an award to Stevie & the Mac. (Tip: Just a peck on the cheek this time, sister honey:nod: ).

On many award shows, the band/artist that performs ends up taking home the trophy. I think they have a very good shot at winning. If they do, perhaps it'll be set up that the awards will already be over there and someone will bring the awards out on stage to them via satellite and we'll get to see it. That? WOULD ROCK.  Can't wait to see the show!!

The whole "if they perform, they'll win!" idea is nice enough, but their fellow nominee 3 Doors Down are ALSO performing.
I'm sure they'll have a nice performance and then not win, like with the Grammys in 1998. (But it was worth it just for the LONG BLACK VELVET COAT!!!)

Okay. Not to sound like a smartass because If John is saying it's true, then he must have had confirmation from somewhere but is this not the most *SMACKED ASS THING YOU'VE EVER HEARD*?!?! I mean, they left early to become adjusted to the time difference and then you're going to fly back to perform ONE SONG on the American Music Awards after having done a show in Germany and then you're going to FLY BACK when the show is over??? WTF? While I realize their next show isn't until the 19th, traveling like this really screws you up. If you've flown overseas and returned home, you hear me when I say you are literally retarded for the next few days after you return (I? Fell asleep in my food at the dinner table on Easter of 2000. Seriously). I really think that this is a show where people have already known that they've won. Why else would they be going to all this trouble? I could totally be wrong but this is really weird.
John Run
11-05-2003, 08:55 AM
Seems odd to me that they would go all the way back to LA for the show. Especially with all their live gear in Europe. Nearly impossible to ship all that from Europe to LA and back in such a short time. If they are indeed going back and forth, I think you may see some sort of stripped down acoustic number.
Yes, the whole idea seems a little ridiculous... why can't they just tape a song from that night's performance in Kiel? That would cut out on SO much travel and headaches for the band and the crew. Then they'd have to turn right around and fly RIGHT BACK to Ireland?!?!?!?!?!
ShangriLaTroubl

Sounds weird to me too...who knows, we'll see when it gets here I guess...John did say in the Nicksfix chat last night that is what they "MAY" be doing, not 100% decided yet

It makes no sense. They're going to fly the whole troop over for one song on a show? Not that it would surprise me though. FM has always leaned toward the excessive. It's not like it's the Grammy awards or anything. Certainly they could perform from Germany. They must love Dick Clark or something.

Since the AMA is on the 16th and their concert is on the 16th how is it even possible for them to perform at the awards? Also are the awards in LA b/c if they are why does the west coast have tape delay?

Actually, although TD is a very lackluster song, I am curious to hear it live. ;) The most pompous act of the century is asking for your hotel room to be painted pink and a grand piano hoisted up and through the window. All for a one night stay. ;)
As for them travelling from Germany to the US to Germany all in one day with a concert in Germany that night AND time differences, it is ridiculous to believe that they'll be at the AMA awards LIVE. They will perform via satellite or they won't perform at all. And the AMA take place during the afternoon/early evening on the West coast.

I do have a strong feeling Thrown Down will make its premiere in Europe and quite possibly, will be what they perform since it comes at a time when the song will have just been released as a single. Or, maybe because it's just been released as a single, they won't be playing it on the awards show and will do Peackeeper instead since it was the first single. I dunno. We shall see soon enough

Absolutely agree. For whatever reason, Peacekeeper seems to work A LOT better sandwiched in between songs during a whole Mac concert than it does "on its own" in any of these shows. I really hope they play something like Thrown Down or SYHA. I know this is never gonna happen but just imagine what wonders it would do for their image and simply how f****** COOL it would be if they did two songs: "COME" followed immediately by "EVERYBODY FINDS OUT"....Lindsey and Stevie would set the house on FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool:

Well, actually the only way they could do both songs is if they boiled each song down to about 2 and a half minutes...don't forget, the shows only allow so much time per artist (hence why we got the Fleetwood Mac medley). Personally, I'm kind of wondering if they'll even do a new song. I feel the presence of another rendition of Landslide or Go Your Own Way. Hopefully, this is one of those things that I think is a premonition but it's really just thinking the worst...

Remember, back in 98' when they were nominated for the Grammy, the album they were nominated for, The Dance, was a "reinstatement of a body of work" put together as a live album with just a few new previously unrecorded songs (you already know this). Fast forward to 2003. Fleetwood Mac completes it's first studio album together with Lindsey since Tango in the Night and are in the midst of what will end up being a tour that lasts over a year. They are being nominated for the new album, not for past work. It only makes sense to play something new and not rehash GYOW and Landslide. It'd be more advantageous for them to play a new song and perhaps get a few viewers going, "hmmm...I really like that!" which might get a few people who maybe wouldn't have gone to see Fleetwood Mac, out, and maybe some people requesting the song and buying the album. The medley for the Grammy Awards was understandable considering the songs on the album. But now? Nope. I think we'll be hearing something new

It would be bizarre of them NOT to play something new! You're not going to hear Matchbox20 doing "Push" and likewise you're not going to hear FM doing "Landslide."
I'm thinking SYHA.

Yes, but you're saying it would "only make sense" to do a new song...remember, we're talking about FM. I actually do think they'll do a new song though, although I don't know how advantageous it would be. I still think that Today Show performance hurt them more than helped them. Let's just hope if they do a new song, they do it well.

There is indeed a whole lot riding on this performance. Do you remember a few years ago when Cher "performed" on the AMA? Cher was washed up musically and her new single "Believe" was just doing nothing outside of the gay clubs. The week after the AMA performance the song literally exploded across the board and became her biggest hit ever. I think if they did a really knock-down passionate version of "Thrown Down," FM could really get noticed by middle America. I would advise them against doing "Steal Your Heart Away" because, although it is pleasant and catchy enough, it really has no emotional oomph. Now that she has six months of touring under her belt, I think Stevie has the poise and confidence to really wail the heck out of TD!

I love Steal Your Heart Away, but I think it's a little too sappy/slow to make for an interesting live performance, especially on TV. I think a feisty WOS version of Thrown Down is just what they would need spark interest in this album. I'd actually like to see Not Make Believe too, but there's no chance in hell that would ever happen. Although, I'd bet my cat that all we're going to get is Peacekeeper or SYW. :(

Yeah, but Cher has a different style of music and that was back five years ago. If they play Thrown Down (which I would like to hear), it won't do much for them. I can't see the majority of the AMA audience hearing Thrown Down and being blown away to the point where they request the song or buy the album. It won't happen, IMO. I never saw TD as a wailing song, either.

I like that suggestion earlier for the band to go out on a limb a do a killer, balls to the wall performance of "Come". Shock the hell out of everybody! What do they have to lose? Stevie could even chime in on the chorus and play some mean tambourine during the guitar solo. I know Fleetwood Mac could tell those AMA people what song they want to play. "Come" is either a song the general viewing public will either hate or love. Will FM dare to be different? Sadly, I seriously doubt it. It'll either be Peacekeeper or SYW.

I think the Mac should perform "World Turning", if they are going to do an "old" number. Everyone is involved and how priceless would it be to see Mick spitting and sraying his sweat all over the first row. Watch out Brittney, if you thought Madonna's kiss was nice and sloppy, you're in for a real treat!! ;)
A new one would/should be "Thrown Down" or "Steal Your Heart Away". Makes sense to me if they want to promote the new record. Either of these songs could impress the audience if done well and right.
