Since I'm a nerd and I was doing some research for a law school paper on Westlaw ( a law school case database) I thought I would do a little search on Stevie's name just to see what would come up. Found it kind of interesting that she has been the plaintiff and defendant in a couple of lawsuits.

The first one was a lawsuit brought by a man in Rhode Island against the Providence Civic Center Authority ("PROCCA"), various security personnel employed by PROCCA, the Providence Police Department, and a number of other defendants (Stevie included)

The complaint sought damagees under state law for alleged infringements of a man's rights stemming from a May 3, 1986 incident in which PROCCA security personnel denied this man admittance to a rock concert at the Providence Civic Center because he insisted on bringing in a camera.

hmmm wonder if this was a Stevie concert? That's all it really says, the rest is all boring.

Another one is from 1981 in which Fleetwood Mac was the plaintiff involved a person/company that was selling shirts (Fleetwood Mac shirts and many other artists, all listed as Plaintiffs) but did not have the licensing rights to do so. This is what it said about FM "Plaintiff Fleetwood Mac Tours, doing business as the musical and entertainment group "Fleetwood Mac", is a California partnership, consisting of Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, John McVie and Lindsey Buckingham, none of whom are residents or domiciliaries of the State of Illinois, and has its principal place of business at 1420 North Beechwood Drive, Hollywood, California."

Some others where Stevie is mentioned but is not an actual party to the case was one where a man was bootlegging and sold hundreds of thousands of recordings which included Stevie recordings plus many other artists. This was in 1983.

The last one involved an air carrier appealing a case where its license was revoked. The Stevie mention comes up because the company had a contract with Stevie and many other artists for air transportation and had included Stevie in a "thank you" note from the company.

Couldn't find any information about the lawsuit over "Sara." Does anyone know if that was settled out of court?

I think the Sara lawsuit was dismissed because the judge found that the plaintiff did not meet her preliminary burden of proof. At least, I think I read about that in Mick's book - so maybe I should take it with a grain of salt!

According to Stevie, the Sara lawsuit died after everybody on the plaintiff's side finally said "We believe you" to Stevie.

Yep, that was indeed the night of the Stevie concert here in Providence. I did not see anyone causing a commotion over a camera, however. Only in RI, no wonder they did not want to play here to promote "Say You Will". :(

Can you imagine what it must be like to have poeple popping out of the woodwork to sue you? The pitfalls of stardom...:distress:

I imagine that the stalkers are a bigger pitfall, but the lawsuits must suck, too.
