I *love* Silver Girl. Seriously, I LOVE it.
Yes, the music sounds like something from the Street Angel sessions, but Stevie's voice rocks and the lyrics (however corny the opening lines are) are among the most personal and vivid on the album. She really paints this picture of a woman, her life, and her shortcomings.
I love Lindsey's backing vocals and the end where she stops singing and talks, saying "Sometimes, she's an actress...but you'll never really know..."
So, I hated it at first listen and for the few months after the album came out, but I've grown to love it and I never skip it. Never.
Add to thread and tell us one shocking revelation about your taste in Mac songs/music!
PS: This does not mean I'll EVER have a change of heart about WISYA, Johnny. ;)

I love Silver Girl too! I think it is great, I don't know why everyone acts like it is the worst thing ever...
Anyway, my shocking revelation would be... No Questions Asked is my favorite Fleetwood Mac song (even though everyone else hates it) and I think it far surpasses her more popular songs.

I worship "No Questions Asked"!!! Great song! "Silver Girl" is alright .... I really don't like the "million bucks" and "girly girl" lyrics- but I don't hate the song. It's way better than "Red Rover" or "Come"....
My shocking revelation is that I think that The Other Side of the Mirror is Stevie's best solo album overall -even better than Bella Donna- which is odd, because I normally don't like "synth-crap", and TOSOTM's production relies heavily upon that late 80's synth sound.
I dunno. The whole album to me just seems so true and redeeming. Compare the cathartic songs on TOSOTM to crap like "That Made Me Stronger", which was supposed to be some kind of songwriting rebirth (ironically Stevie DIDN'T write the music to that one).
This should probably be on the Stevie board, anyways..... Let's see.... shocking revelation about Rumours era FM....
Tango in the Night is the Rumours era's worst album- even worse than Behind the Mask. HORRORS!!! BLASPHEMY!!!!

I LOVE NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I think it sums up what really happened between her and Lindsey immediately following his leaving FM in 1987. I think that song sums up her feelings about the situation more than any others. The lyrics are so sad but the music is so upbeat, that makes for a great combination. :)

I'll admit that Silver Girl is not as awful as I had originally thought. While there's no escaping the absolutely dreadful lyrics, I really am coming to enjoy the music/melody, and Stevie's voice does sound so nice on it! But those lyrics! Ugh!
And I've always LOVED No Questions Asked. Espeically all the "cold wind" stuff. :D

Ya know, I don't skip Silver Girl any more either- it really has grown on me. Even though the intro sounds like something you would hear while being sucked up by aliens  , Stevie's vocals ROCK and the lyrics aren't that bad. Now the only songs I usually skip are Morrow and Smile at You- the 2nd chorus goes on for WAY to long- it sounds like it really needs to stop, but then is repeated AGAIN. One of the albums lesser tracks, IMO.

The Second Time is a classic to me! If I had to make my own Fleetwood Mac greatest hits, it would be on there. The best Fleetwood Mac closer for all the albyums, even better then GDW, in my opinion.
Anyone else like this song?
I love when she goes "And your sorrows left you there, right before the lights came up"
Other songs that everyone hates but I love would be Welcome to the Room... Sara, Docklands, and Temporary One.

I respect basicly all opinions, and know they can vary and everyone likes different things. but THAT is NOT a valid opinion. There has to be SOME kind of line when it comes to musical opinions. GDW being better then the second time is kind of more reliable then the law of gravity. Do you float in the air? NO yopu don't, therefore The Second Time sucks and CAN'T be called better the GDW ever. You must've not done a spell check. What you meant to write was:
The best Fleetwood Mac "choker" for all the albyums, even better then GDW "as torture music for terrorists", in my opinion:laugh:

GASP! Maybe we are not kindred spirits, more like yin and yang, because we really are different when it comes to:
Thrown Down
No Questions Asked
OSOTM
Holy crap I love all these and you hate them! But snaps for revealing you love Silver Girl. I will also say I don't hate it as much as I used to.... some of the lyrics still make me cringe. I can't believe Stevie used "hard core world" "high tech" and "girly girl" in a song. *sigh*

I seem to love a lot of songs most fans hate...
I love Jane (regardless of the Chimpanzee line)...and I as well the TOSOTM is one of her best albums anyway....i love It's Only Love...hate That Made Me Stronger...lol and i too have let Silver Girl grow on me....while I agree the lyrics are dreadful...i like the way the chorus goes...
No Question Asked...is a great song as well tho...Second Time Around, ehhhh makes me sick...

This could have gone under my Okay, Confess thread.
I agree with you, Dissention. Silver Girl is a very good song. You can hum the melody afterwards, unlike with Red Rover.
I'd put it on a level with Thrown Down. (Twisting the knife in you.:) )
To me, EFO is Stevie's weak link on the album.
My confession of weirdness: One of the versions of Lady from the Mountain is possibly my favorite Stevie song.

Silver Girl doesn't bother me as much as it did before but it's still not my favorite.
EFO Stevie's weakest link.....*blood runs cold*....*dies* Sheebus, Jake.... ;)
Meredith---it seems as though we need to record some more songs...perhaps a little EFO and maybe some Silver Girl..whaddya say??

I do love me some OSOTM! Especially Long Way To Go, that song rocks. I love Thrown Down, but only the WOS version. I do like parts of NQA, but as a whole, I can't stand it.
And we *must* be kindred spirits. After all, we're the only folks 'round these parts who will cop to being Melrose fans.

I think Silver Girl is ok and I really like No Questions Asked. Anyway, I know a lot of people don't like Sometimes it's a Bitch but I like it. I used to listen to it all the time. Maybe I like it because it's a Jon Bon Jovi song and I like Bon Jovi.

"The Second Time" is wonderful and soooo sad. I've always loved that song.
"Red Rover" blows big time, wheras "Silver Girl" is semi-tolerable- hence the former being worse than the latter.
I love "Jane", too. The "through a window all our sorrows will become our only visions, nothing more..." line is very, very touching/crushing. Whoopi-do about the chimp line- yeah, it's kinda lame, but so what....?
"Everybody Finds Out" is probably in my top ten Stevie songs- it's that good.

I have to say that I've warmed considerably to "Silver Girl"... though it's never going to be one of my faves, and I'm sure it'll always remain my least favorite of Stevie's contributions to 'Say You Will.'
Her voice is terrific on the song though... very nuanced and effective. And it had a lot of potential, but I think the production definitely does it a disservice... but, Lindsey really can't be wholly faulted for that, since it's probably the way Stevie wanted it to sound.

Oh YES YES YES YES I thought I was the only one, love love love this song :D
My most shocking revelation is that I would say 'Gate and Garden' is the greatest song EVER recorded, the chorus is so damn catchy and I just love the lyrics!!!

I'm not shocked that anyone likes Silver Girl. :D I was shocked that it was so detested by many! I like Silver Girl (I dig the instrumentation, especially the beginning, and I love "shadows move across her face"--it really does stick with you) but I still think Red Rover kicks its ass ;).
I'm another fan of "Jane" despite the chimpanzee line. And I think I'll have to go back and listen to "No Questions Asked" now that I've read this thread. I haven't heard it in months and it never did much for me but now I have to go give it another chance ;)

Welcome To The Room -- one of Stevie's more confessional songs; love the thinly veiled references to Gone With The Wind, Front Line Management, cocaine and the Betty Ford Clinic.
Gate and Garden -- Stevie at her most oblique; nice melody
Only Over You -- An overlooked Christine classic-
That's Alright -- I wish they would perform this live; I really like the very country-fied early version
Hard Feelings -- Not that crazy about Billy Burnette, but this is one of the more redeeming songs from the Behind The Mask album. I have a promo single of it, so it was at least considered for an official single. Read somewhere that Don Henley paid him compliments for it.

PenguinHead, Hard Feelings actually WAS a single...I have the same promo CD single also but I also have a cassette single that has Freedom as the B-side. As good as the song is I was floored at the time it was chosen as the third single from Behind the Mask. The cover of the single has no pic, just a bunch of green red and tan colored stripes...kind of unusual...

I'm just wondering what took you so long. "Silver Girl" was my favorite song when Say You Will was released, and still is to this day. I never really understood the massive bashing it received. It's such a great song. Plus, I never thought the lines from it were ever really corny at all. Just Stevie being incredible...
