Wow. I can't believe how deep Stevie's voice is, in this show, it almost sounds like someone put the cd in slow motion... Still a good show.... Not my favorite version of I Can't Wait, I wish she would have put the same energy into it as she did the Iowa Show... My favorite version, anyone agree?

I was unaware that she EVER did a concert version of I Can't Wait.

Yeah, I Can't Wait was a regular part of her Rock A Little tour set. But then it was never performed again.

Actually it was dropped at some point in the tour-I saw the 3 Denver shows, 2 in June..and the filmed show in August (?) and it wasn't performed at any of those:(
From the mp3s I've heard I thought it actually came off pretty well. On the Cloaks N' Daggers bootleg CD (a live Rock-A-Little show that it took me forever to get a copy of) it was one of the only songs I really liked-she sounded terrible in all the others.
I have a pretty decent mp3- they actually got the special echoey effects pretty well- from the Alpine Valley (CA?) show 5/31/86 if anyone wants me to send. Just let me know your e-mail address...

I Can't Wait was filmed at Red Rocks, they just didn't use it for the vid. It's on the uncut boot. :) She also must've brought it back if it was dropped because all the boots I have include ICW.

It's certainly on recordings from shows that ended the tour in August. There's a ferocious performance of it on the recording of Madison Square Garden.

Well then I think it's safe to say that it was played at some shows at not at others -I stand (semi) corrected. I know it wasn't played at the first 2 shows I saw. On the day Red Rocks was filmed I won tickets on the radio late in the afternoon but lived about 2 1/2 hrs away from Red Rocks so I actually missed what I assumed was the first 2 or 3 songs of the show-perhaps I Can't Wait was one of them. Or perhaps I was a clueless teenager who smoked too much pot and really had no clue what I missed (I Can't Wait) / or what I didn't miss (I Can't Wait) ...depending on what information is correct- and it's probably not mine.
I do remember (for sure!) that she ended the Red Rocks show with a smokin' version of Rhiannon, which followed Edge of 17....errr was it right before Edge of 17? Well, it was in there...and it was good.
I've never heard of this uncut boot!!!-anyone willing to send the songs on the boot that are not on the video?
I'd be happy to trade some songs for it!!! Please please please!
Thanks
Ricoh

And she certainly performed ICW at the Jones Beach NY RAL tour stop. On this boot, she bleats one of my all-time favorite "wells", which occurred at the point where in the recorded version they would have sequed into the "how will we feel 20 years from now" part. It went something like this: "how do I love...how do I love...how...do..I love you...WEHELLHELLHELLLLLLL".
I'd be interested in finding out if "oooooooooyeyeyeyeyeyeyeyyeahhhhahhhh" part right before the guitar solo from the recorded version was ever attempted on stage. :wavey:

So it sounds like the Red Rocks Uncut boot is a video-right? I was assuming it was audio. I would love the video if anyone knows where to get it or wants to do a trade-or would still be happy to do an mp3 trade if anyone has it in that format.

So what was the set list-what else didn't we see on the video? I Can't Wait, Rhiannon...anything else?

No, it's an audio. Someone DID videotape it, but it has never circulated. :( I am going to post it on my page when I finish posting the Holland show. Here's the setlist:

Outside the Rain, Dreams, Talk To Me, I Need to Know, No Spoken Word, Beauty and the Beast, Leather and Lace, I Can't Wait, Stand Back, Stop Draggin' My Heart Around, How Still My Love, Edge of Seventeen

Yippee-I will look for it at Dissentions site-3 cheers for a great site with a lot of downloading at once!! I go crazy sometimes for these 2 songs a week sites-it takes forever to get the whole show and inevitably I miss a couple songs somewhere.

Also, I know I might be a little confused about some of the RAL shows-but I swear the one that was filmed did have Rhiannon in there either at the very end or close to it!

Thanks for the kind words, Ricoh! :D

I believe you about Rhiannon; the uncut RR boots just misses the last two songs. :)

"I Can't Wait" is a good song, and was a minor hit, but could have been much better. As a high energy dance tune, it just misses its mark. The pace is somewhat plodding, and some of the lyric lines are just generic babble with no emotional impact. It's no wonder it wasn't a huge, memorable hit. I was never at any dance clubs at the time the song was charting; were club DJs playing it?

Not too long ago Stevie cited the reason she stopped performing the song is because the band couldn't get it together. That is so laughable, and so Stevie. The problem wasn't the band, the problem was Stevie.

Conveniently, she doesn't take into account that, on that tour, it was her last hurrah with cocaine, and she was a train wreck. She did rock a little, but most of the time she was just rocky --missed cues, long pauses between songs, incoherent babble, forgotten lyrics, awkward phrasing, etc...

When she performed that song, she never seemed to have a firm grasp on the structure of the song, which really isn't that complex.

i think "I cant wait" is probably my favorite stevie solo song! i love the entire RAL album and her voice and crazy antics and rocky peformances. Its just all sooo 80's. Stand Back was my intro to stevie (at that time i didntknow what FM was...). So, the synth sounds and her wild caterwail vocals are what i loooove.

Absolutely!! I used to trade concerts (on cassette!) back then. It was obvious on the tapes that the entire band had it together for the entire tour, just not the artist. :) I consider myself fortunate to have attended a show on my birthday in the early weeks of the tour. I skipped school to travel and see and hear a near perfect performance of every song. ICW was awesome live. Unfortunately, the show I attended wasn't early enough. Early enough to get Gold Dust Woman at the start of the show, but too late to get Gypsy and Sara.

The "hot mess" that the tour is now remembered for developed during the tour.

Here is the ICW official video with commentary by Stevie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f10b9Ju_fCo

In it she says:
"We tried doing this song on stage one night, but it was a disaster. It's such a hard song to do."
