This is my Denver experience. It contains somethings that might not always have to do with the Mac so just skip on over it if you would like.
Ok this is my final show for 2003. Well, as far as I know. One can dream, however.
My arrival in Denver was uneventful except that I got lost in the huge airport on the way to baggage claim. I get to my hotel and find out that my friend Jenn who lives in the Denver area called. I call her back on my cell phone. Well, she called to inform me that she had gotten us meet and greet passes. I was in shock!! Of course my first reaction was “oh no why didn’t I color my hair this week.” I was really close to going to Walgreen’s to get a bottle and touch my grays up but I figured that I would not have time and I would make a huge mess. I made plans to go out with Jenn and her friend Kim that night.
It was great to see Jenn again we met at the AHI 2001 benefit and kept in touch all of that time. The friends that I have met through all of my travels have been the best experiences of following the band.
We go to an area of Denver called 16th St. it was very nice loaded with shops and restaurants. We have dinner and I fill them in on all of my Mac experiences of the last 4 and a half months. We try after and go to a few hotel bars were we think that the band might be hanging out but we struck out. I was not a happy camper but I figured that I would be meeting them again tomorrow.
I get up early in the AM and proceed to look at my wardrobe in my suitcase. I need some new clothes to meet the Mac I thought to myself. I headed out to the mall and to my favorite store Express. I got a few nice outfits and some new necklaces. I even went to the MAC store to get some matching lipstick. I headed back to my hotel and I was exhausted. The high altitude did a number on me.
I am still calling Ticketmaster about every half hour and still no great floor seats are being released. I was not that upset because the meet and greet passes were more exciting to me. I got ready and I realize that my black tights and boots are not going to match my new brown skirt and tan top. Oh such a dilemma for a Taurus. I had a new corset top that I had not worn yet but I really did not want to wear that in front of Ms. Nicks. So, I went with my black micro mini skirt and my black embroidered Kenneth Cole top. That was safe and very sexy but not too much. OK my fashion dilemma was now solved. Whew!! Now if only I had tickets.
Jenn was going to pick me up at my hotel but I was getting nervous so I took a cab. I wanted to be at the box office to check for tickets. I get there and the best that they had on the floor was section EEE. Um NO thanks. The clerk tells me that these are the best tickets that were released. I am skeptical so I keep checking back. Meantime I see that there is a restaurant called Blue Sky Grill and that’s where I am supposed to meet some people from the Ledge board. I head over there and I find out that they don’t open until 5:30 in about another 20 minutes. I hear some people sitting outside the place talking to the doorman and I hear something about Zimmer and Pedro. I am like are you talking about the Red Sox? Yes, they were apparently there was some kind of altercation at Fenway Park. I ask if they knew what the score was and it was 4 to 3 Yankees. Oh no not the news that I wanted to hear. Come on and open up so I can watch that game!! Ok the Mac took a back seat to the Red Sox for a few minutes. So, I head back over to the box office and the same EEE tickets are the best to offer. I call my Mac buddy Alex and fill him in on my ticket status. He tells me to hang in there and that the passes are the highlight anyway. I head back to the Blue Sky Grill and run in there frantically “is the game still on?” I ask at the bar. It’s over with news that I did not want to hear. Well, I have a salad and I head over to the box office again. Still no good seats were available.. I kept this up all night going back and forth from the bar to the box office. I was trying to hook up with a few people from the Ledge board but I never did. The doorman said he was getting some tickets in and that they would be near the stage. Well, I waited for them and they were not near the stage but way on the top in back of the stage. Well, they were a lot cheaper then the same tickets at the box office so I took it. I had more $$ in my pocketbook so I bought a shirt and a key chain.
I meet up with Jenn who is picking up the passes at Will Call and at first they don’t have them. I am just ready to cry at this point. Awful seats, Red Sox lose, and no passes. Had the curse of the Bambino followed me to Denver? Finally after we wait and the passes do show up and I put mine on. I am starting to feel better already. No curses!
Well, I had a totally different experience at this concert then the rest. The seat was way up at the top of the arena and it’s a good thing that I was not afraid of heights. I really wished that I ate more carrots at this point because it was hard to see. They had binocular rentals for $10.00 and I thought that was too much $$ to spend. I was being frugal that night. They did have the screens facing behind the stage so I could look at them to see what was going on. I have to say that I felt a little more relaxed because the band members were not looking at me dance.
I could see the band members go up on that little elevator device and walk on stage it was a different perspective. I could see the whole stage just not very good. I could see behind Taku’s drum kit. OK I stared at Lindsey’s and Stevie’s butts all night. LOL. When I was not watching the screen.
Ok I am not going over the set list cause it’s the same. I will just touch on some highlights. During Landslide Lindsey kissed Stevie’s hand for a long time and he looked like he was licking her fingers. Please keep in mind that I saw this from the screens that were still very far away from me. This is what it looked like to me. After he kissed her head for a long time too.
During GYOW when Lindsey came down to let people play his guitar I could have sworn that he seemed to hit someone. I don’t know why. Like I said I was not in a good viewing area so I can’t really tell if anything out of the ordinary happened.
The concert seemed to fly by very fast. I met up with Jenn and Kim and we wait to be told where to go. We were directed into a room and then some were separated from us again. I think that they were family and friends of band members. I know I saw a lot of Brett Tuggle’s initials on passes. Well, we were divided into groups of six so we could have our photos take with the band. I don’t know about anyone else but I really hate this set up. I feel like I am at the DMV getting the license photo taken. OK well we wait and I believe it was the tour manager who introduces a special guest. Well, this girl is facing the wall obviously very shy and embarrassed. Well, It turned out to be Corey Buckingham, Lindsey’s niece. She is just a doll. She seems so sweet. She said that she has no talent and it does not run in the family. She also mentioned that she was on tour because she lost some kind of bet with him. It was just too cute.
After about 10 minutes the band comes in. First John, then Stevie, then Lindsey, and last Mick. They all line up against the wall in that order. Lindsey said something to Stevie and they both laughed. Stevie had on a Stevie type top. LOL black flowing sleeves with a flowered pattern on the front.
Ok off the first group went to go up to the band. Lindsey just looks so happy at these meetings. Now he really does look like he is at the DMV. I wonder what his license photo looks like? OK we are the next to the last group to go up. I go up and I am near Lindsey. I really hate to say this but he looked awful. He was in some desperate need of Visine. He looks at me and says “hi” and kind of nods to me. I say “hi” back but we are all told to turn around for our photo. Yippee. After the photo was taken we are being thrown out for the next group to come up. I decided to push my way up to Stevie. Ain’t no stopping me now. LOL
I head up to her and have no idea what to say to her. Well, she looks at me with that look you give someone that you kind of know when you see them again. Her eyes kind of widen and she gives me this sweet smile and says’ Oh hi how are you?” like we are old friends. I am just in shock to myself thinking, “oh my God I think that Stevie recognizes me. So I come up with the brilliant “oh nice to see you again:. Then I got pushed away again!! No Stevie hugs either. She looked so pretty. Her make-up was very neutral looking. I wanted to tell her I liked it and that I liked her top but NO. I really wanted to thank her for the music and this tour and tell her what a great 4 months this has been for me but NO. I got pushed out again. So much for the meet and greet. Oh and I said hi to Mick and he just was staring into space. No great loss.
Well, that was my Denver story. No hugs and kisses from any band members. But I did get to meet them one more time before they head overseas. Here is hoping that 2004 is a better year for my Mac communication.
On a side note we went up to Boulder and we stopped at the fountain that was dedicated in memory of Joe Walsh’s daughter Emma. This was the inspiration for Stevie’s song “Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You”
