View Full Version : Fill in the blank: You can't be a true Stevie fan without ______

I mean this to be lighthearted and not self-righteous. (Please don't be offended if you don't know any of these; I mean them in fun.) Here are mine:
You can't be a true Stevie fan without -
- knowing which releases are solo and which are with the Mac.
- wanting to see her in boots.
- thinking her parents are adorable.
- liking at least one song on Street Angel at least a little bit.
- disliking the production on at least one song on Street angel at least a little bit.
- wishing she'd make eye contact with you in concert.
- wishing she felt up to dancing a lot more in concert. (Fix that hip so you can kick again and feel well!)
- knowing which one is Sharon and which one is Lori.
- knowing the name of at least one of her relatives, even though you do respect their privacy.
- thinking Phoenix is much cooler than it would be without her.
- liking Stevie's music with Lindsey. And Tom.
- knowing what Fritz is. And the blue lamp.
- knowing the names of at least three of her songs with Angel in the title. Not counting Angel.
- having a great deal of difficulty choosing your favorite three songs by her.
- feeling she was robbed of the Grammy at least once.
- knowing what the Stevie look and props consist of.
- having bought at least one of Edward W.'s books about her and thinking the writing is a huge disappointment.
- having listened specifically for one of her songs during a movie when you heard she was on the soundtrack.
- shuddering at the thought of how she could have been with at least one of her exes, though you'd still like to know some of her secrets when her book is finally released.
- having acknowledged long ago that her book ain't being released for a loooong time.
Any others?

You can't be a true Stevie fan without...
- checking out the Stevie and Mac sections everytime you're in the music store, even though you know nothing new is out.
- defending her "goat-iness" to your friends, family, and acquaintances.
- knowing the roadie-and-coke rumour. *dead-silence*
- owning more demos and boots than actual albums.
- owning her singles and 45s, even though you don't have a record player.
- logging onto the Nicks Fix at least once a day.
- sending in a Stevie Sighting to the Nicks Fix.
- knowing the story behind the Civil War video...and you don't agree with Stevie about her weight in it.
- searching VH1.com to see if she'll make any appearances anytime soon.
- knowing all about her next album before she even schedules studio time.
- referring to Sheryl as Stevie's "wife."
- mispronouncing a word and immediately thinking about the Mirage version of SOTM.
- bitching and comlaining about the live show setlist because you've heard it so many times on a boot.
- wondering what kind of a child that Stevie and Prince would've created.
- having every clip that is shown in the Sometime's It's a Bitch video already on tape.
- having a favorite Stevie photo and knowing exactly where it is online.
- searching for a Stevie mention in every mag you subscribe to before reading anything.
I'll think of more later! :D

I love all of these, but this one hit home. I was a stutterer growing up, and it still happens on occasion. Yesterday while teaching a lesson I stumbled on the word flooding and the word farting came out. Actually I said farding, but try convincing a room full of kids that.
Hey, at least they were listening.
Anyway, I take consolation from the fact that Stevie enthralls millions and makes millions when much of the time people can't understand her.

Farding. Heh heh.
I say you can't be a true Stevie fan without being able to guess within a year or two of when a song was recorded by the sound of her voice.

These are so great...I love 'em!!
Here's another one
You can't be a true Stevie fan without staying in a store that's playing Rhiannon until the song is over even though you have it at home on like 5 different CD's and you've heard it 1000 times.

You know you are a true Stevie fan when you can tell by her hairdo when the picture/video was taken.

You can't be a true Stevie fan without -
- cringing whenever anyone tries to cover one of her songs. (Give it up, Young Turk!)
- knowing what her signature looks like.
- being able to picture from memory the title logos of every one of her albums.
- beaming with pride the first time you heard her nail the live vocal recording of At Last.
- being able to cite multiple examples of her contradicting herself in interviews on the same topics.
- having purchased at least one piece of writing just because you read it had inspired her to write a song. (Mabinogi, Rappaccini's Daughter, Annabel Lee, Triad, etc.)
- having a favorite live version of Rhiannon.
- thinking that the anti-drug campaign should drop the fried eggs campaign, and do "This is your nose. This is your nose on drugs." Think belt.
- Noticing immediately when Stevie changes (or misses) lyrics in live performances.

You know you are a true Stevie fan when...
You know the names of her dogs.
You count how many times she twirls during Stand Back.
You know the difference between the Stand Back cape and the Gold Dust Woman one.
You miss it when she doesn't do the "do, do, do's" in Gypsy.
You will actually listen to a Kenny Loggins song just to hear her sing.

These are great!
I do admit going to the N section and F section in record always hoping for something new LOL.
I do have all the 45's and never owned a record player.
I have like 65 videos and most of them have the same footage but that one tiny new clip makes the video worthwhile.
Street Angel starts out GREAT, wonderful and ends horribly! LOL
I wear a moon necklace.
I cant look at black lace without thinking " thats so Stevie"...
LOL, we are all hooked!

A customized Stevie blow up doll. Life size cardboard cut outs of Stevie in every room. I know all of you have these, but I’ll bet you don’t talk to them as much as I do? I have a wish list that includes wanting to lick her eyeballs too. Now that’s a true fan. I need to get back to searching for my blow up doll now. I got kinky, and was nibbling on her butt. She cut a huge fart, and flew out the window. I’ll bet she’s mad at me again. ........Mark

Some more:
You can't be a true Stevie fan without ______
Wishing you could dress like her all the time. Even if you're a guy.
Thinking the thought of Stevie and Mick together was gross.
Wondering who could do a good cover of one of her songs.
Wondering what songs Stevie could cover well.
Wishing she'd do some more obscure songs on tour.
Trying to convert as many fans as possible!
That's all I can think of now. My brain is fried!

You can't be a Stevie without..........
- starting to cry when she cries
- sending letters to each address you think she lives and get them
back "return to sender"
- knowing her parents' address
- leaving a store when you hear The Corrs doing Dreams
- a VCR and/or DVD player
- taking a trip down memeory lane when you hear old songs
- getting mad when someone says her music sucks
- Going to shows even if you're in debt for the rest of your life
- calling each and everyone who had/has something to do with
her
- watching a video and you can't turn it off while you're late for an
appointment
- sleeping in a busshelter for 3 weeks in the middle of nowhere
just to have your picture taken with her

I'm guilty on all of these. Especially hearing Steive songs while in a store. The other day, I was at a furniture store, when Say You Will (the song) came on. I just started smiling and singing to the music and getting really excited because I rarely hear FM on the radio, because I hardly ever listen to the radio.
Here are a few more:
You get so so so excited when she twirls around at the concert, even if she is not going that fast, it seems like she is spinning at the speed of light!
You hate the Dixie Chicks version of Landslide and want to throw up when anyone gives them credit for the masterpeice that is Landslide.
You watch the Dance at least weekly, rewinding little parts you think are "cute".
You can't see platforms of black lace without saying "how Stevie Nicks"!
Your voice has changes the same way Stevie's does. I have actually listened to Stevie's songs so much and sung along with them that my voice is starting to sound raspy like hers. Even though I don't do it intentionally! Of course when I am listening to a song, not sung by her, my voice is normal. It is weird! During karaoke, everyone says I do a great "Stevie Impression"! But I don't mean to, it just happens!
When ever someone says Stevie sounds like Kermit the frog or goatish, you want to kill them! My sister says, "Is her voice really like that?" I want to scream murder! I love her voice, but I guess it is not for everyone.
You are actually planing on going to see school of rock because of a small Stevie Mention.
You know all of her little speaches she does in between songs. "This next song is from a record that we did in 1979 called Tusk. And it it is one of those songs I never thought we would have done in a performance, so for all you song writters out there it does happen. It's called Beautiful Child"
You think of What's the Matter Baby as a masterpeice, rather then just plain bad!
You have different interpretations for different types of lyrics she has done over the years and just exactly how they fit into her life.
You hate Sheryl Crow! I know Stevie loves her, but I can't stand the woman!
ShangriLaTroubl

You can't be a fan unless:
You get real upset when Stevie's entire solo catalog is not in stock at the record store. (even though you already own them)
You eat Macaronni and cheese for 3 weeks because you blew your budget on a Stevie item (or tour tickets).
You buy a Belladonna albumn from the used record store for 50 cents, even though you own several because you can't stand the fact that someone would put such a low price on it.
You put 30 items on your watch list on Ebay of Stevie stuff, even though you never actually bid. You just like to look.
You were disappointed that Stevie didn't do a cameo in a movie yet Like Mick did in Arnold's "Running Man" (Did anyone notice Dweezel Zappa's Characters name was Stevie?")
You notice things like the last comment. LOL

For years in the late 80s and early 90s I could not find TWH in the stores, though I already had copies. The TISL release seem to have put an end to the stock oversight/sin.

I could not resist this thread as it wove the memories of all the nutty things we do as fans -
And so...let us fill in a few blanks...shall we?
You can't be a true Stevie Fan without______.
- Owning Jean Cocteau's 1946 "La Belle et La Bete" ("Beauty and the Beast") on DVD.
- Dreaming that Stevie had secretly made a video for "Beauty and the Beast".
- Having a strange tendency to play Stevie's recordings backwards.
- Wishing that the TV series of Beauty and the Beast had used Stevie's song for the theme music...at least in some way!
- an obsession with Stevie's boot collection and the mere idea that Stevie has 26 pairs of platform boots all in different colors! Wow!
- Owning at least one stained glass lamp.
- Completely seeing why Stevie loves Sulamith Wulfing as I am sure she sees herself in those paintings as I see her in many of those paintings...as though they were her very own portraits from some other time!
- sporting at least one of Stevie's hairstyles throughout the ages if not still doing so - it's O.K. Stevie does the same thing. (Borrowing a look from time to time)
- The need or desire to dress like a gypsy!
- Waltzing into a boot cobbler's shop with your photo copy of the last page in the "Enchanted" box set booklet, plunking down two paychecks to have Stevie's Boots made to your own shoe size just so you can wear them to her concert the next month.
- And last but not least...You can't be a true Stevie fan without feeling that if Stevie didn't exist...we would have to invent her!
Thank you Jake for another great thread!

Buying vinyl copies or Rumours and Bella Donna at the thrift store just because they're... well, they're there. lol
Almost spending $99 on a gothic velvet gown from Hot Topic on Halloween. And you're waiting 'till the day after Thanksgiving to buy it on sale ;).
Being confused by half of her lyrics, sitting there and trying to figure out what they mean, and completely forgetting why/what you were speculating.
Thinking that Edge of Seventeen was entitled "White Winged Dove".
Thinking that EO17 was about a "One winged dove" ;).
Chiffon. And lots of it.
And I'm probably the minority here, but I kinda think that the goat jokes are sort of funny... I don't mind them. I admit to doing them myself . *hides*

You're not a fan Jake? That's strange because you seem to be into a lot of Stevie ballads etc that aren't my cup of tea, whereas BATB does something special for me. Very well sung, produced etc. That moment with the b/ground vocals: "Oh who..i-is the beauty, who the beast." It's a pretty magical song. Whereas something more meandering and 'loose' like Beautiful Child never caught me. (SYW tour version excepted :D )

I don't hate it, I just think TWH would be THE perfect album if Garbo took the place of BATB.
I disagree about Beautiful Child; I find BATB far more meandering in the music and the lyrics. Still I like some of her other meandering stuff like Forest of the Black Roses.
You're right, some of my favorite Stevie songs are slow ones, including Garbo, The Highwayman, She Still Loves Him, etc.
If it makes you feel any better (or respect me any less), HAEWAFY is not a favorite of mine either.

And I'll dare to say that Garbo is more successful at establishing a romantic mood without seeming like it's trying so hard. Maybe that's what bothers me a little about BATB, that Stevie is trying so hard for it to be romantic. Again, JMO.

BTW, I think it has a very country sound, true to her roots. She should pursue that a little more, IMO. Her country sounding songs always go over well with me, though ironically I'm not a country music fan. I like Garbo, The Highwayman, Rose Garden, That's Alright, After the Glitter Fades, and yes, TFFT.

I have said before and I will say it again! "Beauty And The Beast" is and always will be a complete masterpiece from beginning to end from its conception to its inspiration it is a masterpiece. There has never been a song like it ever!
I'm also sad to speculate that Stevie will probably never record another song like it...ever!
Trust me kids when we are very old and still listening to our golden oldies, our treasures, we will be very thankful for Stevie's ballads...
...oh God...how sad did that sound?
Always with
Peace, Love, and Magick ~

You cannot be a true Stevie fan without:
- burning Nag Champa
- Lighting candles
- Bidding on cigarette lighters with Stevie's pic on them while you just quit smoking

- Stevie's love for her fans

Just some things off the top of my head...
You can't be a true Stevie fan without:
-Stevie/Mac screensavers for your computer
-Having "Say You Will" appear as your cell phone greeting
-99% of the items you buy on eBay being Stevie/Mac related
-Going into a music store and organizing/straightening Stevie/Mac albums, while intentionally messing up bands you don't like...like Creed
-Referring to all of your cool, black-heel boots as "Stevie Boots"
-Smiling when your mom refers to your black-heeled boots as "Stevie Boots" as well ("Why don't you wear the big Stevie Boots, dear?")
-Owning all Stevie/Mac albums on LP, cassette, cd and MP3
-Wanting to disown your friends who thought they were funny one night by singing "just like the ONE winged-dove..." for three hours
-Laughing at Stevie's ramblings before songs because she's just so darn cute!
-Spending hours and hours watching Stevie performances and interviews only to laugh at the thought of how long it took her to coordinate the head thrusts (with the male dancer from the Stand Back video) on her SNL performance in 1983
-Having your friends laugh at you for singing along (loudly) to Edge of Seventeen during School of Rock
-Wondering what the hell IS nag champra, only to discover at the Milwaukee show (6/30/03) while checking out the local craft sale that it's incense!
-Without being known in high school as the "Fleetwood Mac girl"
-Being introduced to people as, "my artsy-fartsy friend who is obsessed with Fleetwood Mac!" (I prefer to call it passionate :))
-Creating a "dress as your favorite rock star day" during high school homecoming just so you can dress up as Stevie (which I won, by they way...)
-Planning to name your future children after Stevie/Mac songs
-The majoritiy of your t-shirts being Stevie/Mac related
-Having your friends and family call anytime they hear a Stevie/Mac song because it made them think of you (my favorite!)

You cannot be a true Stevie fan without:
Going through an extended period of time just hating everything about her, her songs, her look, her speech pattern, what she says in interviews...because, remember...
...it's a thin line, between love & hate...

Thinking the thought of Stevie and Mick together was gross.
BWAHHH HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! This totally reminded me of a conversation me and my "moonsisters" (my friends from here used to call ourselves that back when there was a Talk to Me chat on this web site). We were discussing the logistics of how that even worked physically! (OK WE WERE BORED!)
OK...so here are my additions....
You are a true fan when...
-You are listening to a classic rock station and point out to people that stevie slept with that guy when ever one of her exs' songs come on!
-you purchased the "best & worst dressed" issue People mag just so you could have a picture of stevie wearing pants!
-have a FM or Stevie tattoo that you swear you will never regret having even when you are 90.
-you have usernames and email addys that are stevie related (mine being bladna81=belladonna 1981) and having to explain the meaning to non stevie-freaks who just look at you wierd.
-you put great effort into deciding or actually getting a stevie inspired license plate and a matching frame. (don't have a car yet but i already know what i want to put on it)
-when you hear people talking about medication you feel the need to put in your two cents and warn them about klonopin even though they have never even heard of it.
- you name your pets after stevie songs (actually mine are named after lilo and stitch characters but I used to have fish named after FM members)
-you swear you will know your true love because he will be able to sing you a stevie song that is not a released single or well known to most people and he can hold a conversation about it's meaning.

You Can't Be A True Fan Without:
Owning a copy of her Silent Night
Having enough Stevie T's to wear througout the week
Owning the Alpine Valley 86 boot ;)
Not listening to any other than hers
Loving the Red ROcks Video, even if most of the shots/vocals are fake

You can't be a true Stevie fan without being a Lindsey fan, because Lindsey said that he wouldn't join FM if Stevie couldn't join. If he hadn't said that, Stevie wouldn't have gotten anywhere and no one would know who she is.

You can't be a true Stevie fan without___
- Wearing multiple rings on both hands.
- Having paper flowers and lace in your room or house.
- Secretly wanting to go to Phoenix, just to catch a glimpse.
- LOVING anyone who says your hair, clothes, anything reminds them of Stevie Nicks.
- For songwriters: Writing a song and realizing that it is obviously heavily influenced by Stevie's music.
- Thinking of Stevie anytime you see anyone in a tophat.
- Wanting to get a Yorkie, and name it Sara Belladonna.
- Getting angry at a friendly stranger who says, "You like Stevie Nicks? My favorite song by her is 'Black Velvet.'"
- Chatting in the NicksFicks chatroom.
- Only being satisfied when sitting in the first few rows at a concert.
- Saving every picture of Stevie you like onto your computer.
- Knowing all the acronyms, such as TISL, TWH, HAEWAFY, RTTG, BATB, TOSOTM, SOTM, ... etc...
OK, that's all the ones I can think of.. I also do all the ones you've mentioned.. I especially love the one that someone thinks of you and calls you anytime they hear Fleetwood Mac or Stevie on the radio...

I like the fourth one but must confess that the first three do not apply to me.

You know you're a Stevie fan when:
You have more things waiting to be framed than you will ever have wall space for (or the money to do)
