I'm just curious to see what other people think of Gypsy the way it is performed live on this tour. I've been to three shows (the most recent was last night at Jones Beach) and it just seems boring lately. Especially since Stevie doesn't even try for the high parts anymore. She's almost completely reworked the melody. I really love the song, but lately it's just a real sleeper. The one thing that got me last night was that she actually sang the "I still see your bright eyes" three times at the end of the song (and it was in the right octave!). I hadn't heard her do that for as long as I can remember. But even with that, it was a snoozer. I know that she can do better, that's why it's such a disappointment!

I just plain don't like Gypsy live at all. It's boring and can't be done justice live. Unless, of course, they did it like they did at AHI 2000! That was *amazing.* It just doesn't work well in a live setting, IMO.

But be thankful that she isn't doing it like she did on the WH tour! That was PAINFUL.

Ive actually enjoyed hearing Gypsy this time around. IMO, Stevie's been going thru menopause so she likely doesnt sound as enthusatic as she normally would.

Well that's when I decided to take a much needed break, if you know what I mean. ;) I've never really liked "Gypsy" live and especially when it follows "Come" it's just so anti-climactic. It's a great song on record and that's where I prefer to hear it. :)

I have to agree that instead of performing this song today in it's "original form", they should do it totally different (perhaps just Lindsey and Stevie sitting on stools with an acoustic guitar;) ). I think it needs a makeover in order to have it's impact restored. I also agree that it doesn't fit after Come. It was definitely an unbelievable studio moment, and has never been a mind-blower live. Oddly enough, I actually like the Wild Heart Tour version best out of all of the live incarnations. I thought it was great at the US Festival.

The album version is sprightly and exuberant, and they never quite seem able to capture that on tour.
Fleetwood Mac versions always seem lackluster, and Stevie's solo versions always seemed a bit raucous.

I do, however, adore the acoustic version she and Lindsey did for the 2000 A.H.I. performance, and I wish they were still doing it that way.

I'm definitely of the opinion that if they continue to do this song live they need to spice it up a little. Stevie hitting the high notes would be nice but I'm not holding my breath...

Gypsy is the one song I just don't care for live. It's really turned me off lately. I felt bad that I wasn't liking it that much, so I put on the studio version and I just never realized how truly great that studio version was!!! I hadn't really listened to it in awhile and I am glad I revisited it again!

i think gypsy has gotten much better on the 2nd leg...i also found it quite boring when i saw them twice back in june...but in duluth and knoxville i actually enjoyed it...i loved the "do do do do's"

and the "bright eyes" part really adds a lot to the song...plus she hit some major high notes in that part...i think her notes have gotten much better on the 2nd leg...id die for an mp3 of her knoxville performance of Gypsy

Actually I think the current live version is worlds better than the Mirage concert video version, where Stevie's voice sounds strained, her eyes are glazed, and she stands stiff at the mike. My favorite versions of the song are the acoustic one from AHI and an early angry outtake that would be amazing in concert.

I know most posters will find this cheesy, but I think it would be great if Stevie synchronized some simple moves to the Gypsy video as it plays behind her in concert. Not that she has to spin or pirouette, but just grabbing the side of her dress or throwing her fists up like in the faux rain scene would be powerful to see. Most people have great memories of that video & connect at least part of Stevie's image to it.

Well...... the current version

SUCKS!!!!!

I can't believe that she won't sing the "B" anymore..... (for you non-initiate musicians, this is..._

"Enough to-
LOVEEEEEEEEEE "
(You)"

A tragedy......

this song has never been done justice live...i thought it was ok on the Mirage video but it's pretty boring now. i really liked the AHI acoustic version...i really was expecting them to do it that way this time around. it definately needs a makeover.

I always kind of thought of "Gypsy" as being the sister song to "Sara" and, well, seeing how "Gypsy" sounds these days makes me appreciate the fact that they don't do "Sara" anymore.
Having said that, watch them put "Sara" back in the set next year when they (hopefully) come around.

I think they'd do well to swap "Gypsy" & "Rhiannon" in the running order of the set. Play "Gypsy" after "Never Going Back Again", "Rhiannon" after "Come". It just seems like the set would FLOW better in that order.

It would flow better that way. It doesn't segue well after Come. she did sing the "whoa whoa" part in Chicago, which took me by surprise. I wouldn't be upset if they swapped it out for another song. I think they should at least try Everybody Finds Out. but they won't.:(

(Why they haven't yet hired us, is beyond me!) ;)

...as the tour rolls on (she did go high for "oh, and it lights up the night" in Toronto, unlike the earlier shows I'd seen), but I agree, it just isn't that great live. I'll take SOTM any day (but I'm not going to hold my breath.)

The acoustic version from AHI is unbelievabley good, but maybe they figured that doing it acoustically this tour would make too many acoustic or slow songs (with Dreams, Landslide, BC, Say Goodbye...you get the idea.)

I was very suprised in Atlanta in Sept when she did the "bright eyes" in a higher note a few times....it made it sound much better to me...

I just heard the acoustic version from the 2000 AHI and it's really good. I agree with ChiliD that Gypsy would sound good after Never Going Back Again especially if they did it acoustically.
