OK, I don't mean to steal the thunder of the fan that posted about this on Neil's UK FM site (Trackghost) but I (and some others from the US) really want to get our preorders in on this CD since it's only being released in the UK and the release date is coming up soon.

It's on a small UK label called Secret Records and it's (unfortunately) apparently going to be called "Madison blues" (I really wish they could've come up with a different name as this is going to get confused a lot with the Boston Tea Party CD's that have come out with that same title over the years even though this is going to include completely different recordings) and it's definitely going to be considered a "legal" release (sort of like the Boston Tea Party stuff in the "legal" sense, as in, the band themselves have nothing to do with the release of the material but it I guess has been OKed by someone in a legal position in order for it to be made available through UK retailers).

So anyways, here's the rest of the info on it from Neil's board:

It's the Fleetwood Mac Line up of Christine McVie, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood.
It contains live and studio records from the early 70's and all tracks are previously unissued and includes a unique studio session of Christine McVie with her band before joining Fleetwood Mac, performing as The Christine Perfect Band. There's also a rare Jeremy Spencer recording of one of his mimic performances of Elvis
Presley titled The King Speaks.

DVD INTERVIEW INFO: Jeremy Spencer in interview with 'Jet' Martin Celmins (it's apparently going to be a "region 0" disc so it should work in pretty much all DVD players)

Release date: OCTOBER 20

We can definitely discuss the CD here too but the main reason I pasted/posted this here was to bounce it off some of you to see if any of you know of a website accepting preorders for this now (as I can't find it at amazon.co.uk or anything) so if anyone does come across a site selling this CD then please do post a link (or at least let us know which site it is that's selling it) here so we can order our copies. :)

Thanks in advance. :)

I have posted about this on Neil's U.K. site. I definitely want this box set if I can get it. My question is CAN you get this box set if you are in the U.S.? I'm still a little confused about this. I usually order everything through the U.S. Amazon site. I hadn't even thought about the U.K. Amazon site. It would seem to me that sometime in the next several weeks, it should show up on at least the U.K. Amazon site, assuming that is indeed an official release and not a bootleg.

I don't have any further information on this John. All I can say is that this is something that quite a few of us would love to hear. I'll be one of the first to buy it!

I have been checking the U.K. Amazon site for this box set every day and I believe it has just been listed on that site. There is a CD titled Madison Blues with a release date of October 20th. I believe this is the new box set, not the older Peter Green era CD, although there is no track list available on Amazon. It is also obviously listed in British currency. Does anyone know how much this might cost in U.S. dollars?

Hi macfan 57,
Yes, I think you are right. It is a 2cd release and the date co-insides with the info we have been given from Trackghost and Wetcamelfood. So get your orders in, all you FM 60'S/70'S fans!!
It works out at about 21.50 Dollars plus postage.

Cheers,

Hi,
You beat me to it chiliD !!.
Track 6 on CD 1 is I think, 'Down at the Crown' also known as 'Doin all Right' in which case the vocals are handled by Christine, Danny and Jeremy.
Tracks 5 and 11 on CD 1 are strange as 'Crazy 'bout You Baby' is a Christine song from the 'Christine Perfect' album, but the (Can't Hold Out Much Longer) is surely Jeremy doing is Elmore James bit as is track 13.
As for track 3 on CD 2 I have no idea. Just have to wait I guess.

I did see this line up a couple of times live and I can remember them doing a fast blues instrumental with Jeremy on slide guitar which was very good. Never did find out what the title was, but it would be great if track 3 was it. They were very nervous I seem to remember and missing Peter's leadership, but they were excellent gigs.

Cheers,
Blue Horizon.

That's kinda what I was thinking...but I just couldn't hear the Christine tune & the Elmore James tune being that close to make it a medley. Can't wait for this set!!

Thanks for giving me credit guys! :)

This is great news that this is now listed on Amazon but don't forget there is an additional DVD disc included in the set with the Jeremy Spencer interview on there. I spoke to the guy who actually did the interview and this is definitely going to be in the set! Pretty good value for money really.

Oops, sorry for missing out the "a" in TrackAghost, the thought was there to give you your due credit though Track anyways. :) I don't think I would've found out about this release otherwise so I (and I'm sure the others here too) say a BIG thanks for the info on this in the first place Track, it really has been invaluable. :)

Yeah, I'm really surprised (but happy) that this should only be about 20 bucks for us American fans considering it's 2 CD's plus the DVD and it can't be too shabby on running time either if the 18+ minute "Tell me all the things you do" from the infamous "Merely a portmanteau" bootleg album I heard MANY years ago is anything to go by! :) Nah, I'm sure the version(s?) of TMATTYD on here are going to be much tighter that that take was.

Whatever the case though, these "wilderness years" recordings are of MUCH interest to many of us it seems so here's hoping the sales Secret/Shakedown get from this will let them know there's a market for them there (if they want it). :)

Oh, just thought, I bet "Hey baby" will be Christine's Chicken Shack tune too so it's just that one dang track we gotta figure out now (though I am confused by the CAY(CHOML) Christine/Jeremy deal too).

Hey, how about a poll on what we think it will be (a CM or JS led track), regarding either the "mystery track" or CAY(CHOML), TWO polls?!

We don't get many of them on these boards! :)

I also want to thank Trackaghost for all this advance information. I never would have heard about it otherwise. I have already pre-ordered my copy. We are getting 29 rare tracks plus a bonus DVD and for only just under $23.00 including shipping to the U.S. That's a bargain, in my opinion!

Hey Baby is definitely Christine's Chicken Shack song. There's a version of it on the Chicken Shack On Air CD. I not sure about the Crazy About You track, which I would think would be Christine's. This looks like a terrific mix of live Kiln House tracks & unreleased studio outtakes. I am really looking forward to this.

I am hoping that maybe this same record label would eventually do something like this with the Bob Welch 1971-1974 years in the future, especially if there is some good interest in this Kiln House box set.

Hi Everyone,
I got my copy today and have just finished playing the two cd's.
(will watch the Dvd later)

Verdict:- Fantastic !!
I dont want to spoil it for you, but this box set is a real must have if you like the 'Kiln House' era lineup.
Highlights :- Well quite alot really, but I now know why they chose
'Madison Blues' as the title. Jeremy Spencer really does steal the show. Go straight to disc 2 and play LOUD. The band are 'ON FIRE'
with Jeremy leading the way. Just listen to his blistering version of 'Preaching Blues' together with the title track and 'Dust My Broom'. Also John's bass lines on track 2 'Purple Dancer' are truly awesome. We also get a NEW track from Danny called 'Open the Door' together with some great lead guitar on 'Station Man'.
Jeremy rounds it all up with 'Jailhouse Rock' and his Elvis impersonation sans 'Teenage Darling' and a rocking 'Honey Hush'.
Disc 1 also has some good tracks including 'Down at The Crown' and some solo Christine tracks with her band before she joined the Mac.
The notes, tracklisting etc, together with some nice photos not forgetting the discs come in a purple colour box which is really good value.
I look forward to other Ledge's reviews and verdicts on this important release.

P.S. I bet you all can't wait to get your mits on a copy !!

I think the best way for someone in the U.S. to order this is through Amazon U.K. The CD that you want is titled Madison Blues. There are 2 CDs. The release date is Oct. 20th and the record label is Shakedown Records. It says on Amazon's website that they only have one left in stock, but that more are on the way. There is another Fleetwood Mac CD titled Madison Blues Live. This is a different CD. This is the Peter Green line-up and was released back in the 1990's. I hope this helps.:)

Got mine today as well from Amazon.CO UK and it's as good

live and studio songs are great, Christine never sounded better

I know I'm just impatient and waiting for the arrival of my copy of this CD, but I'm starting to worry now as after hearing Denmeister99 say they got theirs (and Denmeister99 is further out west than where I am it looks like and since I assume Denmeister99's copy shipped the same time as all of ours (that ordered it from Amazon UK that is of course) in last Monday 10/21, I sure hope my copy hasn't gotten lost.

Naturally, I hope eveyone's copy is now safe in their hands but please say if you are in the US and haven't gotten your copy yet (and have ordered it) so I'll know I'm not alone. Thanks in advance. :)

Here's another rave review for this CD. I just got my box set yesterday and listened to it this afternoon. It's terrific!!! There are 4 Christine songs that I've never heard before, which are terrific, especially "Lonely Without You" & "Gone Into The Sun". And, "Get Like You Used To Be" is the best version I've ever heard of this song. Chris sounds great throughout both CDs. Danny's track, "Open The Door" is also terrific as is "Down At The Crown". Disc 1 belongs to Christine & Danny, while disc 2 belongs to Jeremy. I liked his Elvis parody near the end and "Honey Hush" is the perfect way to end the CD. The liner notes are also excellent, written by Martin Celmins. I haven't seen the DVD just yet, but surprisingly it's 96 minutes long. This box set was worth every penny, and then some.

Here's hoping that John gets his copy, SOON. :)

I'm dying to get this cd! I'v searched high and low at all the record stores in town that sell imports. Most have never heard of it. One arrogant asshole insisted that "that's been around for while." I explained about the confusion regarding the other Madison Blues CD but he wouldn't believe me.

Has anyone in the US had any problems in ordering the disc through Amazon UK. I noticed that the US is not listed in their drop-down box list of countries they mail to.

Got my copy on Friday from Amazon.com.uk. Shipping was fast. And as a reminder, remember to link from Marty's site, because he does get some compensation from the order when you do this. :)

Anyone who is a fan of this lineup(Kiln House) or just a fan of any one of the individual members(Jeremy, Chris, Danny) needs to get this 2 cd set with the dvd interview disc with Jeremy. It's a real treat hearing these guys/gal performing together. It even has some tunes from Christine's band before she joined FM. She sounds GREAT. There are a few times on some of the songs where she sounds off-key or overbearing, but nothing these ears can't handle. Jeremy was probably my most pleasant surprise just because he rocks out on so many songs and is a riot when he does his Elvis "impersonations". So many fantastic songs on the cds. There's really not one I don't like. This was a long time coming and I'll be more than happy to snatch up any other gem that gets thrown my way. We need to hear the Futuer Games/Bare Trees lineup and Mystery To Me/Heroes lineup songs produced in this same way.

When I first heard Madison Blues I felt like I had gotten a mising link to my Fleetwood Mac collection. Actually it was like going back to the old catalog once again, like I had done after I bought the White Album so many years ago.

WHAT A FEELING! :)

I finally was able to order mine through Amazon UK. Arrives November 16. Something to really look forward to!

Wouldn't it be great if there were future releases like this for the subsequent periods after Kiln House ---

one for the Future Games/Bare Trees band

one for the Penguin band

one for the Mystery To Me band (that is the one I'd want to hear most)

one for the Heroes band

Let's hope it happens.

I don't know exactly what the shipping charges were for me, but the total amount that I paid was $24.13. I think the price will vary depending on the exchange rates at any given time. I also think that's a pretty reasonable amount considering what you get-2 CDs of very rare tracks plus the DVD. :)

In all honesty, I had someone buy it for me (as I gave them the $ & they put it on their credit card (and the CC company coverted all of that) so I can't say for sure, I don't think the postage was that much anyways.

I think mine seemed like it took longer to get here than it actually did because I was waiting for it :) but yeah, it must've been about a week and a half tops it took to get to me.

I just got back from the UK and I saw it for sale in HMV and Virgin there so it's definitely legit. :)

Here's hoping for those other lineups recordings releases as well. I don't know if many exist but if we weren't even aware of the existance of these then there is hope that maybe there are recordings by those others we're not aware of either. :)

I just wish the liner notes in MB were more specific with the source of those recordings but it's OK, I'd rather have them and not know where they got them from rather than know about the existance of recordings and not have them. :)

I know it had been speculated a while back that the live recordings were from CM's first FM show from New Orleans but I think that rumor had been extrapolated from a mention of N.O. in the liner notes but they don't state that is where those live recordings were from. I'm not shutting it off as a possibility but I have a hunch they're not from that show. Would be interesting to find out for sure one way or the other where they are from though.

I bet the "studio/live" Mac ones are BBC recordings (as I think the CP ones are too) but who knows, it's great stuff anyways like many have said above anyways. :)

If anyone wanted to revisit this topic, I was curious if Jeremy's version here of "Madison Blues" & "Dust My Broom" are done differently than on the Blues Jam in Chicago cd? On this Madsion Blues cd are those two songs taken from live performances or studio? Also, is "Station Many" which I noticed listed on disc 2, a take off on "Station Man"? How about "Station Man" and "Jewel Eyed Judy" from disc 1, how do these sound compared to the versions on Kiln House? I know I ask many questions!

"Madison Blues" & "Dust My Broom" on the Madison Blues box set are both live performances. There are 3 versions of "Station Man" on this box set. The first one on disc 1 is a studio performance, probably from the BBC. The other 2 versions are live performances. I like all the Station Man versions(although Christine is just a bit off key) & "Jewel Eyed Judy" as well. I do think I slightly prefer the album version of "Jewel Eyed Judy" over the live version.

greenfire, I would definitely recommend that you get the Madison Blues box set. I have a feeling that you'll really like it. :)

I bought Madison Blues, a two-disc set with an additional third DVD-interview with Spencer, in Paris in Jaunuary 2004. It's really very good. I agree, the title is unfortunate.

In reply to an earlier speculation as to who sings what, Christine sings the first five numbers, four of which are not FM but members of the Christine Perfect band. Track five is an amazing studio reworking of "Crazy 'Bout You Baby," which is then played live later on. Other studio tracks include reworkings of "Tell Me," "Station Man, "Purple Dancer," and a Danny-Chris Duet called "Down at the Crown." A live show follows, with Danny and Chris doing the lion-share of the fronting. The second disc is entirely comprised of a later live show, where Jeremy emerges as the primary performer.

Highlights: One studio reworking of Station Man, and then two live performances of the song. Each version is fabulous. Also, a rare Christine Original called "Lonely Without You," and a stunning new arrangment of her solo outing's "I'm on My Way," which is so good, it should have been re-recorded as a studio track.

The British Release (on Shakedown Records) includes a fold-out inset with uninteresting liner notes by Jeff Clemmins.

Hope this helps.

I watched the Jeremy Spencer DVD recently and just felt like commenting. It was so neat to hear his memories (and I think considering how long ago it was and how young he was at the time, he recalled quite a bit!) A huge thank you to Martin Celmins for not snipping/editing out anything or portraying him as mentally unstable, as Jeremy seemed afraid he would! J seems happy and in great spirit; hearing his take on the way things all began was priceless. He also made me laugh quite a few times w/ his mannerisms, like his description of his first impressions of Mick Fleetwood, LOL, he cracked me up.

The part that moved me the most was where he described meeting Peter for the first time, and how Peter told him why he planned on naming the new band 'Fleetwood Mac'-- because those guys were his friends, and because eventually both Peter and Jeremy might leave and form bands of their own- he wanted to leave John and Mick w/ something. How incredibly prophetic that was! yes I admit it made me cry, I'm a sap.

My only complaint was that Martin didn't ask him about the period after Pete left--when they all lived at Kiln House, and about when/how Chris joined. They sort of skipped over that time frame. Other than that, I really enjoyed the whole thing (although I do wish someone had given the poor man a tissue, for heaven's sake, he must've had a cold or something. how many times can he wipe his nose w/ his hand before someone offers a tissue?? :-) )

I would adore seeing similar 'uncut' interviews of Pete, John and Mick regarding those early days of the band. But I'm happy Jeremy got his shot at giving *his* perspective on things (although I guess he did a bit of that in his Q&A also.)

Enough rambling.

-Lis
