Small Lindsey sighting. Saw this odd item on an Elvis Costello newsgroup and traced it to a FOX News column by Roger Friedman that was posted on Sept. 5. This column never quite divulges the details of when or where this event took place, but I'd have to guess NY, as I suspect GQ is probably headquartered out of there. The timing would, I suspect, coincide with Lindsey's trip to NY to do the Charlie Rose interview.

Here's the article:

Costello's Ex-Manager Goes Nuts

Maybe the smartest thing rocker Elvis Costello ever did in his long career was fire his manager, Jake Riviera. During their time together, Costello was considered difficult, unpleasant, and self-defeating.

Since the two split, Costello has had nothing but success and good relations with his record labels. Case in point is the excellent new Costello release, "North," which will come out in a couple of weeks through deals drawn up for him by his current manager, Danny Bennett, and another Danny, Danny Goldberg, who brought Costello to Mercury Records a few years ago.

Riviera has many enemies in the record business, not the least of whom is probably beloved rocker Dave Edmunds. He and Nick Lowe, Costello's best producer, once had a popular band called Rockpile. But after one album, Edmunds reportedly couldn't take Riviera's interference and ended the relationships.

The last time I saw this failed amateur pugilist was in 1986, backstage at the Broadway Theatre before a Costello show. He was as advertised: rude, nasty, vulgar and violent.

Cut to last night, when Lowe, whom I've praised in this space in the past, played an acoustic set at GQ magazine's big coming-out party for new editor Jim Nelson.

Lowe and behold, there was Jake Riviera, now white-haired, but still looking for a fight, cursing in his Cockney accent, baring widely spaced teeth, looking very much like a rabid pit bull. Seventeen years had not mellowed him.

Within minutes of our meeting he was tempting fate, barking and inviting temporary restraining orders. At last — here was an explanation for Nick Lowe's lack of a career.

"You're just a corporate [expletive]," he screamed at me for no apparent reason, "just like everyone else here!" Blood vessels popped under his pasty complexion. "I'm sorry Nick, I shouldn't have let you play here! I hate all these [expletive]!" There was more, but it's not possible to type it up. You get the picture.

Then Riviera sent his other client from a time warp, Richard Hell, out to make some retro-punk noise. None of it was pretty.

As for Lowe, he performed valiantly in front of an ardent crowd of fans that included Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham and actor Peter Gallagher, star of Fox's great hit show, "The O.C."

Lowe also had some good media heavyweights digging his scene, including Condé Nast editor-in-chief James Truman and new Cargo magazine publisher Alan Katz. Before the evening was over, actor Benjamin Bratt showed up — sans spouse Talisa Soto — but with his pal, Paolo Mastropietro, husband of Bratt's pregnant former "Law & Order" co-star Jill Hennessy.

"Why isn't he a bigger deal?" asked one of Lowe's happy fans during the set.

Now I guess we know.

Thanks for posting these photos. Where did you get them? I see Lindsey is still wearing his new "favorite outfit" lol. As for Kristen, she could be a model - she really knows how to strike a pose and look good for the camera!

Thanks for the pictures, Les, we never get to see the lovely Mrs. Buckingham. DAAAAAAAAAAAMN! Way to go Lindsey! Just out of curiousity, how tall is LB? Maybe those who have met him or seen him up close could shed some light on this. I always figured he was about my height, 5'11", but then I saw a picture of him somewhere where he looked kinda short, like 5'6" (I hope I didn't offend anyone). :)

I've wondered this too. Because Stevie is so short and he towers over her (even when she has heels on) I think there is a perception that he is taller than he is. He is as tall as everyone in FM, except Mick, but maybe John is short as well.

Plus, in the early days when Lindsey had all of that hair, he looked even taller.

I know Stevie refers to Jimmy as "little one" and he is definitely small, but I always wondered about "Smile at You" and if she perceives Lindsey as being physically small too.

I'm from Detroit and remember I always used to think Isiah Thomas was very small, but then I saw him in person and he was huge. He was just small in comparison to the other basketball players on the court with him.

Reverse thing with George Burns. By the time I saw him later in his life, making the talk show rounds, he was obviously very short, but then I saw old videos of the Burns & Allen show and he didn't look short at all, because everyone on the show was the same height as he was or shorter.

It's all relative. I think Stevie greatly contributes to the fans' assessment of Lindsey's height. Michele

When I saw lindsey's up close in NY he looked shorter than I thought he did. I'm 5'11 and I think he may be a little shorter. Grow that fro out Linds!

If I had to guess, I would say Lindsey is about 5'10". He's got a very slight build, an almost delicate frame. When I had the good fortune to shake his hand and stare into those gorgeous eyes (!), I did look him straight in the eye. I'm 5'7" and had on probably two inch heels, so I think 5'10" is probably a good bet.

I'm with Patti- I think he's about 5'10". I was looking at the picture we have of with them- Luke looks about two or three inches taller then he does, and Luke's 6'1"... I'm standing next to John, and he's only about an inch taller than I am... so he must be around 5'8" or 5'9".

5'10" sounds about right, although, doesn't he wear boots usually. That might bring him up an inch or two. Anyway, he's probably gotten shorter over the years too. My dad is about his age, and he's dropped a couple inches in the last 10 years. Lindsey was probably about 6' back in the day. After all, don't you have to be somewhat tall to play water polo?
