Here's an ad for the release
Well it's nice that a Mac DVD is being released, but honestly, the Tango video? Cheese. Mirage or Tusk Videos would be better choices...but who am I to say?

Is this going to be a US release too? I wonder why they chose this concert, strange... I have never seen it though, without Lindsey I haven't had the desire to see it, but I would. This is the concert without Lindsey, right?

My boss said he heard on the radio here in CT that they were releasing the Tango concert on DVD, since he knows I am a die-hard Macster he always fills me in when he hears something. So I am pretty sure the states will also see its release. Some great Christine performances on it.

(obviously Mirage dvd would rock, but, it's better than nothing.)

We've had this discussion here before. I think the reason the Tango video is being released on DVD is because Warners own the rights to the video. It probably would be a lot harder to get the rights to the Mirage video, not sure about who owns the rights to the Tusk video.
I'm sure it will be released here in the U.S., too. I had heard about an October 14th release date here in the states. I think the Tango video is just fine without Lindsey. I'm looking forward to getting it.

Yeah, macfan57 is right, Oct. 14 is the US release date (as of now, hopefully this one won't change either) and apparently HBO owns the rights to the Mirage show (and not Warners) so I'm guessing that's why we haven't seen a Mirage DVD stateside yet.
As the Tusk doc was on Warner Home Video, I assume WB own the rights to that so I'm hoping that if they like the sales figures on the TITN one then hopefully they'd put out the Tusk doc on DVD as well.
Someone made a good point on another Mac board about this recently in that due to the Led Zeppelin DVD selling by the truck load, this seems to be the reason some of the DVD firms are FINALLY waking up to the fact that music DVD's will sell for them and if it's ones like these that they already own the rights to then it's cheap and easy for them to put them out on DVD (therefore, not MAJOR sales but with little overhead, they'll get more money out of it them they must have originally thought they would). I just hope this is true about it finally getting through to these companies about how they should put out more Music DVD's.
It does seem strange though that they wouldn't have started their releasing of old music video titles on DVD with the Tusk doc though (as that is the lineup that would get them the most sales etc.) but whatever, I won't complain about getting this one :) I just hope that they didn't feel they had to release TITN instead due to some legal problems (or whatever) as to why they couldn't/can't release the Tusk doc as I'd like to give them enough credit to think that the releasing of the Tusk doc was their first choice over this (from their $ interests etc.) but anyways, we can hope that there is no problem in this regard and that they can (and would) release the Tusk doc on DVD soon too. :)
From the vague packaging details of this TITN DVD, it looks like they're trying to get people to think LB is on it to get more sales but again, I guess we'll just have to agree with them that if they get the sales they want out of this then hopefully they'll dig out the Tusk doc and release that on DVD soon as well. :)

This would have been an excellent opportunity to add some tracks, but it looks like they're merely releasing what was already available on VHS. For instance, didn't Billy and Rick play things like Loved Another Woman? Adding that kind of thing would be cool.
Otherwise, it's really just a Lindsey-less show with songs on which his absence is rather conspicuous.

And the reshots of Stevie on TITN are even more annoying than her Red Rocks video. But, of course, I'll buy the DVD, they've got me!

I agree, the Stevie reshots are so obvious and annoying. Equally annoying is the sound of her voice during this period. I'm at a loss for words on how to describe the sound...flat and restricted?...but it isn't her most pleasant voice. To make matters worse, her voice is altered through a some kind of filter...making her sound all the more alien.
Plus, even though this was from the Tango In The Night tour, it feels a little dubious to refer to this as the Tango DVD, when in fact, it only contains 4 tracks associated with the actual studio album.

They also did Don't Let Me Down Again which would be a nice bonus but I'm sure we're just going to get the stock footage.

The Tango video makes me gag. Christine is the only bright spot. But I'll buy it anyway...
HBO owns the rights to the Mirage concert, but Sony (Columbia Tristar) owns the distribution rights. With the way Sony does DVDs with their old movies, it doesn't look like we'll ever see it released again. :distress:

Yeah, "I loved another woman" is on this show anyways (though billed as "Another woman") done with Rick on lead so this will be on there assuming it's just a straight repackage of the VHS which I'm sure it will be. I do agree with many here though that have said it would've been great if they could've provided some extras but I can't say I'm surprised that they're not. :)

Yeah I find Sony/Columbia/Tristar DVD movies way overpriced too. Thanks for the heads up on the S/C/T angle of this though. Whoever it is that owns it, it doesn't look good for a US release if that Brazilian version had to come out via the back door.

Yes it is. Treat this as you would chemical waste. If you're going to mess with it, be prepared for the worst.
Stevie's voice is at it's sheepish worst here. The way she goes "Aaaaaaahhhhh" at the end of the choruses on The Chain make her sound like she's 80.
Vito and Burnette are just also-rans (ironically, the versions of I Loved Another Woman and Oh Well are rare highlights).
The reshots are horrendous.
And I don't know what Christine is wearing, but it looks like she lost a fight with a jar of glitter.

Tango In The Night will be a great addition to the collection. I enjoyed the video. Maybe it's just me but I actually dislkie the Mirage Video. I hate the version of the Chain with wailing out the lines If you do not love then you will never never love me again. I lso find it amusing that the idiots that released the Mirage concert on DVD are too stupid to realize that the cover shot is that of the band circa 1990 and not 1982.

What a hoot.
Yes indeed, this video is a stinker. How I tried to like it. But there is so much wrong with it ! It doesn't even play like a concert. It is a sterile, filtered, hazy disaster. They shot Stevie almost completely from the waist up, through a Navajo blanket, and from a distance. I don't know what is worse - the striken, deer in headlights reshoot closeups, or the repeated cutaway slo-mo shots of the audience standing and cheering. There are a few moments of interest, but for the most part this thing is creepy and dull.

The 'Tango' concert video is along the lines of the kind of shortform concert videos MTV was playing around that era. The kind you would have seen from Bon Jovi, Poison, Winger, etc... in fact, pretty much everybody... where they mixed specially filmed close-ups, backstage antics, and slo-mo audience shots, with the actual concert footage.
In fact, MTV aired footage from the 'Tango' video a couple of times, and even ran "The Chain" and "World Turning" separately, during a live concert series they had going for a while.
So if you're looking for a straight-forward document of the 'Tango' concert, then you're probably going to be disappointed here.
But if you just take it for what it is, you'll probably enjoy it quite a bit. :)

Oh the 80's - but it is so true
But then again, close ups were shot for The Dance. Moreover, they coupled footage from different parts and perhaps tapings on The Dance initial concerts into one song. The best evidence of this is seen when you look carefully at Stevie's tambourine and realize the streamers myteriously change colors during the same song. Or, when they pull back for a long shot and one of the singers is not really singing when they are supposed to
In any event, I liked the Tango concert, so I probably will like the DVD.
On another note, what is wrong with being shot from the waist up when your caboose is large   believe me I have been there  !! Also, they pretty much did the same thing for Stevie in The Dance video.

LOL. Homegirl's got a big backyard, and I have no issues with it !
It just feels particularly self conscious in this video as there are very few full body shots. It's very unlike the Tusk or Mirage concert - the viewer has no feeling of actually being there. It just adds to the stagey, choreographed feel of the piece.
I haven't seen it in years - even though I used to watch it often to get a fix. One time, a friend of mine and I were watching it at and both of us looked at each other and said, "This really kind of sucks, doesn't it ?"
Haven't watched it since.
But hey, if you haven't seen them, it's better than a stick in the eye.

That's actually my favorite part of that video. To me it kind of summarizes the turmoil the band was going through at that time. That's not to say that I always liked it. It definitely had to grow on me.

And I believe that the live footage in the 'Tusk' documentary, was also culled from two different performances.
The only truly live concert videos we see, are the ones filmed by fans in the audience. :)

Amen to that. And - with the advent of the those two big monitors above the stage, many brave concert recorders get the benefit of those "professional" shots like in the Greensville VHS I saw, which was great considering it was secretly filmed, etc!!!! Kudos to whomever shot it!!!

I didn't realize that the Dance had any close up shots filmed after the concert.... If they do they are so discreet and comfortable to watch that it doesn't bother me. I am bothered by the Red Rocks video because they never show Stevie's face from the actual show. All the shots of Stevie are either far away or were filmed in a studio and look very fake!

Which is how Lindsey could break a string on his banjo in one scene and have all five attached less than one second later! ;)

I don't believe it does- but they filmed 2 nights and you can tell from the editing that footage from each show was edited together. There's also a part during Say You Love Me where LB breaks a banjo string- you can clearly see it pop - and then the next shot *poof* - all fixed!

Do you think her tamborine was dressed with the different coloured streamers so that the editors could tell the difference between the shows that were taped for editing purposes?
I do. Because everything else looks the same. Stage, clothing, lighting etc.

Isn't that kind of a strange setlist? Oh Well jammed in the middle of songs like Little Lies and Stand Back REALLY doesn't look right. Stand Back was an encore song? The bulk of the setlist is Rumours and Tango.

I loved the Tango video when it came out, but indeed it has not aged very well. For example, what was with all of those ugly pirate hats that Stevie wore? And the acid washed denim outfit she wore in the "Everywhere" segment... My favorite moment is during the "Everywhere" video, which is a collage of supposedly "candid" off-stage moments, which includes Stevie holding a lit cigarette in her hand...
There is a reason for reshoots, and as far as I can tell, Stevie was the only one who had them done. It is a bit more subtle than on the Red Rocks video, where Stevie looks luminous in the reshoots but haggard and spaced out on stage. Still, there is just too much editing and gauzy lenses to make this seem like an actual concert.
In the end, I think we should just appreciate it as an artifact of its time. Fleetwood Mac was adrift musically/artistically and they got swept up in the big hair and big lighting rigs. Still, it was better than nothing.

Well, going by at least the TITN tour show I was at, I'm sure that "Oh well" was much earlier in the set than it is here. I'm hazy on the rest but I don't think the order that's on the video was much like what the setlist was like on the tour and of course they leave many songs out on the video that were played on the tour setlist. :)

sigh.. of ALL the Mac concerts to release on DVD!
it WOULD be kewl if they had added footage, like any of the songs all of you have been kind enough to list from the tour. But the released video, just my opinion- was dreadful.
Rick&Billy were talented, but to have a Fleetwood Mac DVD released without Lindsey doesnt make sense to me, since theres the '79 documentary (which was released by Warners so i assume if they owned the rights then, they still do). And of course, the Mirage tour on DVD with the proper COVER would be awesome to have. The Brazil 'Mirage' DVD with Rick & Billy on the cover just is so dumb! By the way, those Brazil DVDs arent bootlegs, a friend has a few of them by various bands/singers- besides Mac, and the dvd quality is good, but the cover artwork all are awful!
I saw the Tango tour in Philadelphia and liked it just fine- but that released video with all the horribly overdone post-production audio and video, unfortunately, is a rare low-point of all of Stevie's filmed performances because it was tinkered with far too much. She was good on the tour, but the finished video doesn't do her or Fleetwood Mac justice.

More DVD musings- Why are Fleetwood Mac's and Stevie's actual music videos left un-released? Meaning the videos for the singles that MTV and VH1 would air, and that Warner Bros. and/or Reprise spent a lot of money on. 'Gypsy' never had a release even on VHS, what a missed opportunity. The Fleetwood Mac videos i can think of right now were 'Tusk', 'Hold Me', 'Gypsy', 'Big Love', 'Seven Wonders', 'Little Lies', 'Sky's The Limit' and I'm sure there were others.. Aren't they just gathering dust in the vaults? They could be put out and sell well as a compilation.
For Stevie solo, I thought Reprise would have been wise to release a dvd single of 'Sorcerer', 'Every Day' and 'If You Ever Did Believe' a couple of years ago, or even now. i see plenty of DVD singles in stores now, priced around $10 for 2 or 3 songs. Even Whitney Houston, on Arista, who had these 2 singles tank, has a relatively new dvd single in stores with the videos for 'One of These Days' and 'Try It On My Own'.
I think any and all of Fleetwood Mac's and Stevie's solo videos would sell well enough for Warners or Reprise to benefit from releasing them on DVD, certainly more than doing nothing with them, when fans (and maybe even a new generation of dvd buyers, teens and people in their 20s who have heard the songs but never have seen the videos) would buy them...

Well.... this is just typical of the FM trend and how much corporate music sucks (it's not FM's fault, really).
This video is sooooooo narcoleptic!! Stevie is barely alive- I'm surprised they didn't wheel her out on a dolly before and after each of her songs. YIKES!! Her hair?!?!?!? Who's idea was that???
Unless you want to see some Vito/Burnette action, you can pretty ditch this whole thing and watch The Dance.
I feel sorry for all of them with the bad clothes, the bad hair and waaaaaaay too much make-up on Vito, Burnette and Mick....

Not to offend anyone here, but I kind of think it's funny when people lock onto the clothes and the hairstyles more than anything else.
Uhm, it was sixteen years ago... and Fleetwood Mac's clothes and hair-styles were ultra-fashionable at the time.
Just think how ridiculous everyone thought the '70's bell-bottoms, hip-huggers, and platform shoes, looked, by the '80s... and now people are wearing them again, and have been for several years.
:D
Anyway, it's a great concert, and highly enjoyable if you like Fleetwood Mac, and aren't seriously locked into any one lineup or another.
Rick Vito and Billy Burnette were excellent additions to the band, and helped bring about a sound that married FM's '60's blues roots, with their '70s and '80's pop/rock sensibilities.
Just my 2 cents. :)

But never again will the fashions of the 80s come back...thank the lucky stars.
Never again will people ever wear their hair as awful as Stevie did. Never again will people wear acid-washed white jeans. Never again will they wear those hats. Never again will they wear ultra-high Candies with cut-off denim shorts. Never again will they wear jeans so tight that their bulges will be seen from a mile away. Never again will they dress so horridly.

I, of course, wore a seersucker suit and white bucks, which I still wear as it is timeless Southern wear. I have, however stopped wearing the dreaded 80's pale yellow tie with small blue polka dots that everyone had!!!!

I had the lovely blue polka dot silk bridesmaid dress for my sisters wedding. I think it was the same dress I later used to lyp synch "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" in while standing on my mother's bread box and singing into my jump rope.
