View Full Version : PBS' Soundstage Chicago
Lindsey and Stevie will be taping an episode of PBS' Soundstage when they are in Chicago in a couple of weeks.
Click on the link to find out more. There's also information if you live in the Chicago area and you want to buy tickets. I've seen the show before (the Chris Isaak episode), it's an intimate concert where they play songs and talk to the audience, like Storytellers.
Soundstage Chicago (http://networkchicago.com/soundstage/)
At this website you can also find future airdates for Soundstage programs on your PBS station. Maybe the episode will probably air in late September or October-- but I'm not completely sure ;)
Muchas gracias, Renae! *hugs*

This is so exciting!!!
Anyone know approximately how long the interim is between taping one of these Soundstage shows and the actual air date??
I can't wait!

It appears as though they're taping it on September 15th. Tickets are $325 for the first 7 rows of floor seats. Not too shabby! *wishing I lived in Chicago* ;) I'm pretty stoked!!! I have a feeling they won't play the show until November. They're still playing the Tori Amos and Tom Petty episodes and they've been around for a while. At any rate, this is TRES exciting. Hmmm... wonder if they'll sing some Buckingham Nicks??? It's listing Stevie as Lindsey's special guest so one thing is certain...they'll be doing Landslide. Hopefully they'll do an acoustic version of Gypsy like they did at the AZ Heart Institute Benefit

But I'm also wondering- will the focus be on Lindsey? That seems wierd to me.

Wow...I love intimate specials like Sting's "All This Time" and those VH1 Storytellers. Since this is really Lindsey's show I wonder what he will play? This will be very interesting.
I'm not sure what the format will be like, as far as whether it will be focused on Lindsey's solo work or will include Mac songs as well. Since they named him as the guest with Stevie as his special guest, it looks like they will focus on his solo work. That's just a guess. But why now, when he is on tour with FM and all about pushing SYW forward? Obviously, we know they will play "Landslide".
It seems to me it would be advantagous for the two of them to sing some FM songs together, perhaps from the new album as well ("Say Goodbye" comes to mind) since they are on tour to promote the new album. On the website they showed other "duos" that performed together, and they each sang solo songs and sang some together as well. (Trace Adkins w/ Travis Tritt and Peter Cetera w/Amy Grant are two mentioned) We'll have to wait for the show to know for sure.
Regardless of what the two of them sing or who the focus is on, it doesn't matter to me! This will be a very special concert. I can't wait to see it.

I think the show will air in late-October or early-Novemeber. There is usually a six-week gap to do the post production and stuff. :) Just think, we're are getting SPOILED as of late.
-TISL album
-GOS songs
-New demos and outtakes
-VBOFM set
-New album
-All Access TV show
-Appearances on Leno and Today
-New DVD-As
-New remastered albums with extras
-World tour w/ second US leg
-New documentary
-New concert on PBS
The Mac has never done so much in a years time. They must be making up for their lack of output over the years.

I confess, I am nonetheless puzzled by this. Do you think Lindsey got the invite to perform solo and then said, well, Stevie and I are a package deal?

The actual date of the taping is Monday September 15, not Friday as is listed on the web site.
Hi, Carne!
There are other episodes that have featured more than one performer on Soundstage, I was looking at the website and Trace Atkins performed with "special guest" Travis Tritt. I looked at the set list and both Atkins and Tritt performed an equal number of songs. However, I think this will mark the first time the program will have two artists on the same show who are solo artists but are also in the same band. So I think in this case, it really is going to be a joint effort. I think it would be the same show as a show that was billed "Stevie Nicks with special guest Lindsey Buckingham." They are not unrelated artists like Trace Atkins and Travis Tritt are. Just my opinion, though. I guess we will see after the episode is taped. :)

It sounds like they will focus on FM and probably, hopefully, BN material.
I would absolutely die if they did anything off the BN record. That would rock my world in a major way.
I find it hard to believe that it will focus solely on either solo career, especially since they have both been working so hard, esp. LB, to promote FM as a unified, cohesive whole. I can't see him splitting from that now. He is the one who has been saying he wants to do another FM record.
I think this is just about the coolest thing ever, particularly as of late.

Acutally I was thinking the exact opposite! No one's getting any younger and that quote from Ken Caillat in another thread here got me thinking that he might be trying to rekindle his solo career in case things fall apart. He's got a wife and two kids to support. His record company wouldn't put Gift Of Screws out although I'm sure that could have been done elsewhere. He's basically been a hermit for the last decade. Stevie has already said she is dong another solo record once this tour is finished. I do wonder though if she would put that off for FM instead.

He has enough money to build and furnish 50 more spanish style houses, buy his wife 500 more diamond necklaces and matching earrings and put his kids through college like, 10 times. I don't think it's the money that's a problem
I do think if Lindsey said, "you know what? Let's keep this thing going." that Stevie would scrap the solo album idea and put it on the shelf for now while she continued to work with Fleetwood Mac. However, as we saw in the case with Trouble in Shangri La, it is possible for her to do both. The guys could begin and then she could come in and do her thing. She has always said that Fleetwood Mac comes first though so we'll have to wait it out  Whatever the case may be, i'm super stoked that Lindsey and Stevie will be featured...this rocks!!!

 Marissa, I do recall during the Dance, Stevie saying something to the extent of Lindsey not needing the money that they would be getting from the tour, because not only does he have tons of songwriting royalties he has producing royalties too, which the other band members do not have. So I don't think this has anything to do with money for him-- at least not at this stage in the game.
I think another FM record is in the cards. Maybe I'm crazy. ;) dissention-- Edge of 17 with Lindsey playing would be pretty awesome. I guess we'll see what happens in a couple of weeks! (we have some Ledgies attending the show now! whoo hoo!!) :)

I love it when I lose a long post...
...I got my tickets today for Soundstage (HOORAY!)- the $325/$150 ticket price is actually for TWO- that donation covers admission for two!! Yay! And it's tax-deductible ;-)
Lindsey is really a perfect fit for Soundstage, and Soundstage's a perfect fit for him. They really focus on great artists. One recent special was taped with Liz Phair, and the one they did with Lucinda Williams continues to be one of the most electrifying things I've ever seen captured on tape.
Soundstage is allied locally very closely with WXRT (93.1), the greatest station in the world- they're an adult alternative station that actually plays the crap of more Buckingham-based FM and even his solo stuff. They REALLY supported him with OOTC even.
I'm so excited for this. I just hope they don't break into Landslide or something... ugggghhghgggh.

So, lemme just make sure I understand this - Soundstage is taped in Chicago, like Austin City Limits is taped in Austin, but they WILL broadcast it on PBS, correct? This isn't just a local thing? Thanks!

As far as I know it's national... but honestly, since I live in Chicago, where it's taped, I'm not really sure...

I'd imagine the air dates for all the PBS affiliates will slightly differ (basically a bunch one week and then a bunch the next week in the same time slot or there around) so yeah, you could consider it a "national broadcast" though not all at once, like say, the Super Bowl, or whatever.
I bet this will be a lot like Lindsey's "Center stage" show from 1992 in it's "intimate" nature. Though VH1 aired an abbreviated version of that show (30 minutes, with ads), PBS's version of it was an hour (without ads) so naturally, the PBS version was much better (though for some reason, the VH1 version of that show had the "Tusk" performance and the PBS one didn't).
I'm confused as to why this isn't going to be billed as a FLEETWOOD MAC Soundstage though as, like someone said earlier, they are supossed to be promoting a FM album after all. SOMEONE is going to be playing drums and bass, don't Mick and John get to be "special guests" too? ...or will there be different players to join them for this show (if it is considered a "solo/duo" thing)?

I'm starting to think maybe the show will just be Lindsey solo on guitar (not that that would be a bad thing at all!), with Stevie singing on a few songs (perhaps Big Love, Landslide, Say Goodbye).

Before people drive themselves mad jumping to conclusions that have no relevance or precedent....
Lindsey takes excessive amounts of time to practice and arrange with other players. I think we can all assume that there will be no one repalcing Mick, John, Etc....
Take the night for what it says Lindsey Buckingham with Stevie Nicks.
An extended setlist similar instyle to Letterman/Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-1998. Seems Reasonable. Letterman was booked and billed as Lindsey and Stevie.

Thank you for that party pooping opinion, but I think I am more than qualified to determine what is relevant to me. Moreover, apparently other people find this discussion relevant and are enjoying speculating. Finally, your statement "Take the night for what it says Lindsey Buckingham with Stevie Nicks" is incorrect. It says "Lindsey Buckingham with special guest Stevie Nicks," which I find wildly different. In fact, the plain language of that advertisement on the offical site of the party hosting the event clearly indicates it will be LB's show - hence the speculation of such an event during a FM tour. It could be the promoter got it wrong, but that is a rather huge mistake in my book and clearly worth my speculation.

Yes!!! BIG LOVE, GO INSANE, STEPHANIE......or with Nicks on CRYSTAL and WITHOUT A LEG TO STAND ON......
Or if Buckingham has a band, I'd like to hear cuts from OUT OF THE CRADLE -------- YOU DO OR YOU DON'T, SOUL DRIFTER, DON'T LOOK DOWN, ALL MY SORROWS, SURRENDER THE RAIN, SAY WE'LL MEET AGAIN. Would be cool if he could get guitarists Liza Carbe and Janet Robin away from their current gigs, but I'm sure there wouldn't be much time to rehearse....even on Buckingham & Fleetwood Mac's three-week hiatus from the SYW tour. Well actually, the billing would make perfect sense in terms of it just being the two of them without a band and so Lindsey is the one doing the music.
But on the other hand I noticed Gloria Estafan also slated, and to my knowledge she would have a backing instrumentalist?

Gloria E. plays incredible guitar. I saw her once play it on a talk show. As an aside, I met her during the Olympics in 1996 here in Atlanta - she was on a float getting ready to be rolled onto the field for the Closing Ceremonies rehearsal - she was so hot (figuratively and literally) - she was also an incredibly nice person.

Unfortunately, I don't think BN is coming out on CD (yet). Read the Music Tap dude's response about this in this thread about halfway down on the sencond page of the thread:
http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11242&perpage=15&pagenumber=2
I'd also like to say that I wasn't "jumping to conclusions" either, I'm just confused as to why this Soundstage deal is billed as something different than a FM Soundstage considering they are promoting a FM product at the moment.
Naturally, I'm not complaining about this as I'd prefer SN & LB to be solo anyways (though it's a little to late for that now IMO but anyways...).
I also hope that they do some "different" songs on the show but I'd be VERY surprised if they did, it will be pretty standard stuff I'm sure.

I have wondered if it was a mistake. Maybe they were supposed to be promoting Fleetwood Mac, but "Lindsey Buckingham with special guest Stevie Nicks" is pretty specific.
If it's a Lindsey solo gig with just his guitar and Stevie showing up for a few songs, here's what I predict:
Big Love
Never Going Back Again
Soul Drifter
Peacekeeper
Say Goodbye
Landslide
Gypsy
Beautiful Child
Love Minus Zero/No Limit
Go Your Own Way
Goodbye Baby
Except for Peacekeeper and Go Your Own Way, the other songs are mostly acoustic. From what I understand, Lindsey has done an acoustic version of Go Your Own Way, and Peacekeeper would be easy to pull off as an acoustic number.
I'll take bets.

Can you imagine LB starting to yell when La Nicks flubbed her muscial parts, could not keep up with him, etc.

I wouldn't exactly call what Stevie does on the piano "playing." She's even said herself that besides a few things, she has no clue on how to even play the darn thing. She only knows a few keys. When she gets near a pino, she sounds like a five year old kid who ate too much chocolate and is just pounding on it from a sheer sugar-high.
I don't think we'll ever see the day where Stevie plays an instrument live. Hasn't she said that she is incredibly nervous at even the thought of it? Yeah, she played guitar in Australia, but we can attribute that to the drugs breaking down her inhibitions...

Hmmm...I would have to agree that the probability of Stevie strapping on a guitar or sitting down at the piano to accompany Lindsey is terribly low. But I would add, that although her piano playing could accurately be described as "pounding," I did thoroughly enjoy her version of Rhiannon from Storytellers as well as the little bit of Sara we got to hear from the same performance. :)

I was thinking about this minimal instrument thing we are all supposing will happen. I saw Heart a few months ago on one of those talk show things and they played with just a guitar and Nancy using this hand held silver thing that made sort of a cymbal (high hat) noise when shaken. They nay have had one other person on guitar. They were fantastic. It really caused you to ficus on Ann and Nancy's voices (which are incredible!!). So, I was thinking if not hoping this will be the same type of thing.
We have like three weeks to find out!!!!!

I agree! :) I also like the Rhiannon on the Enchanted box set.
Question to all of you musicians....why does Lindsey have to play the acoustic guitar? Why can't he use an electric guitar on the show? I'm not being smart, I don't know any technical music stuff and I'm not afraid to ask a dumb question! :D

I am not a guitar person, but a freind of mine who is says you can get more of a range of sounds out of an acoustic guitar a la Big Love live, which sounds like there are four guitars playing (Lord love ya Linds!)
