Stevie has said that she's going to start working on a new album once the Fleetwood Mac tour is over. Since she's gone back into her archives and pulled out old demos like "Planets of the Universe" and "Smile at You" for TISL and SYW, do you guys think that she'll pull a couple of more "oldies" out for her next CD?

I'd love to hear "Watchdevil" get an official release, and maybe "The Dealer." Any thoughts?

If the new solo album doesn't have Space Needle on it, I'm going to be flipping mad!

As for other oldies that I'd like to see get the light of day:

-Joan Of Arc
-All the Beautiful Worlds
-Don't Treat Me Like a Stranger (oh, shut up!!)
-Love Don't Fail Me Now
-Baby Doll (even though I don't think Stevie wrote it, it doesn't sound like her)
-At the Fair ("and the beautiful doll, that she wanted...")
-If You Were My Love
-Lady From the Mountain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Sanctuary

Those are some of my favorites!

If Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers come in and play on The Dealer, then maybe. Some songs can't be anymore perfect. That's one of them. Julia is a gem. I don't think that performance can be topped, either. I'd love to hear Space Needle. I think Lady From The Mountain could still be done very well. If You Were My Love, too. All The Beautiful Worlds-great but unlikely. City Of Hope-please finish this song. China Doll. Beautiful Ghost-from a time gone by, turned into stone. I'd love to hear the "and now I am doubting and the time is running out, she says still frozen to the ground.." line clearly.

Sanctuary
All the Beautiful Worlds
She Still Loves Him (with the SYW Goodbye Baby style vocal)
Do I Bring You Down
Baby Doll
All the King's Horses
The Dealer
Smile at You done the right way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the Beautiful Worlds
Forest of the Black Roses (LOVE this song!!)
If You Were My Love
Prettiest Girl in the World
She Calls You Missing

These are my faves of the demos....need to get em all out and listen to em again tho...

It's a guy that was experimenting with his toys down in his basement. It makes perfect sense, considering that I never thought it sounded like Stevie. There are a few versions floating around; one is sped up to make it sound more like Stevie, the other is at the tempo it was recorded at with the vocals messed with. :D He was messing around with his equipment, recorded it, and put it onto a Stevie demo tape. When he traded it, it still had his song on it, so it was mistaken for a Stevie tune until last year.

I'd love to see:

All the King's Horses
Are You Mine (a killer duet waiting to happen--yeah, I know she didn't write it, but it's still a great tune)
Baby Doll
The Dealer
Don't Treat Me Like A Stranger
City of Hope

Wasn't "She Calls You Missing" from the RAL sessions reworked as "Love Is Like A River" on SA? I haven't listened to the demo in quite awhile, but I remember it had a lot of lyrics from "Love Is Like A River." great demo, though. I love how it starts off with Stevie's voice low in the mix and as the song progresses, her voice gets more and more louder.

Come to think of it, a ton of songs off of SA were outtakes from the RAL sessions. Greta, Rose Garden, Love Is Like A River, Docklands (the demo/outtake I have sounds like the RAL era, but some have it labeled as OSOTM era), Listen To the Rain; I think that's it. Anyone else notice this? :)

She must release Space Needle. I am floored it did not make SYW and instead we got SG, DR, and RTTG, which I like, but IMO they are not nearly as complex or good as the song we call Space Needle.

China Doll, Maker of Birds (so romantic), The Dealer, Julia, and Melacine the Witch would all be good for me as well!!!!! I also think Have no Heart and Annabelle Lee could be great as well. Perhaps Stevie should put 18 songs on her next record!!!!!!

Gawd, Space Needle is freaking awesome. I am in love with it; definitely one of the best demos. Except the tar people line, I don't like that. Street language doesn't fit into a Stevie Nicks song.

I don't think that Stevie ever intended to put Annabel Lee on a record, I think she just loved the poem so much that she messed around with it to turn it into song. I think she was just having fun with it. Usually if Stevie likes something from literature, she uses the inspiration to write something of her won that references it. But Annabel Lee is one of Poe's best poems.

I have no clue...I don't have SA yet. LOL All I know is that I LOVE the music. "When I want something, I get it" Isn't that from "Whole Lotta Trouble"? The music sounds very Middle Eastern and I think LB could do a cool job remaking it.

I've dug out my Stevie demo CD's and I'm listening to the ones I can't really remember.

I love:

Amber

Anybody Out There

Cecelia - very gypsy-ish, and is VERY EXTREMELY reminiscent of SOTM, not the words, the music

Impossible Task - I love the melody of the music in Impossible Task (da da da...dadadada...da da da....dadadada), but her singing is kinda painful on that one. LOL

Annabel Lee - kinda funky. I like the melody she uses.

Have No Heart (dangit. LOL)..this should have been on TISL instead of TFFT or That Made Me Stronger (UGH!!).

She Loves Him Still is beautiful.

Beautiful Ghost is great...sounds very 80's. Coulda been on RAL.

Three Birds of Rhiannon - GORGEOUS, but we already have a Rhiannon. LOL

One More Tomorrow - SOOOO 80's!!!! I love it!!! Sounds like it coulda been in a movie. LOL

The one problem I have with some of Stevie's demos are some sound generic...too similar. Some are just too painful to listen to. LOL

You got that right. I still haven't gotten through the 15 minute version of Gypsy. I can't seem to get past six minutes! But what the demos lack in melody or good vocals, they make up for in ambience and poetry, IMO. :) One demo I can't bear to listen to is Whole Lotta Trouble...PAINFUL!

Shocking to me!
The vocal I have sounds just like RockaStevie!
And the keyboards sound just like Castaway. I think this sounds just like a real demo. Lyrics, too. Maybe we have different versions? Maybe?
Do you have a link to this story breaking? I'm intrigued!

It was all over SaraRhiannon when it broke, but now she has a new board and all the info is gone. :( I can't remember if the guy himself posted about it or if someone who helped him make it did, but it isn't Stevie. When moniquerenee.com was up, she had posted both versions, the Stevie-ish vocal and the non-Stevie vocal. What he did was sing the song in his best Stevie voice, then sped it up a little to sound like her. I never thought it sounded like Stevie at all lyrically and the vocal always appalled me.

The supposedly "real" version (with the deeper, male-sounding voice) is actually the one that was messed with.

I was told that "Do I Bring You Down" was written for inclusion on 'Timespace'... as was 'Listen To The Rain'... but Modern pushed her into using "Sometimes It's A Bitch" and "Love's A Hard Game To Play" instead.

The one song I've always doubted was really Stevie, is "All Over You"... the one she's allegedly singing with Prince.

Wonder if we'll ever know for certain.

As for the original question, I'd love to see....

Without You
Belle Fleur (if Sheryl Crow is producing)
You Like Me (then we'd finally have Stevie's lead vocals on all four songs other people sang instead of her)
She Loves Him Still
Space Needle

Though there are tons of other worthy candidates. :)

Not that I know of. The Timespace rumour has been floating around ever since the tape started making the rounds. It was labeled as a Timespace outtake and started circulating around the time of Timespace's release.

And most Prince fans don't even think All Over You is a Prince song, so who knows...

I think the deal with many of Stevie's demos... especially the ones where it's just her at the piano... is that we're hearing the songs as Stevie's writing them and developing them.
That sort of "stream of consciousness" thing, where she might play it back later and say, "ok, this part stays... this part goes"... etc., etc.
So it can be a bit of a trial to listen to them.

But so many of the others... wow!
It's enough to drive you crazy, because so many of them SHOULD have been released years ago, not languishing in the vaults somewhere.

I know some fans who absolutely insist that it isn't her, and that it's definitely a fake... and I know other fans who swear that the "friend of a friend" guy is full of it, and it is a genuine Stevie demo/outtake.

Kinda like the old "is she or isn't she" debate about "Don't Come Around Here No More."

Funny thing, I never even knew about that debate until I started surfing the internet. I was already positive it had to be Stevie, because I could hear her voice in the mix.
And that was just from hearing the song on the radio... I never even knew she was originally supposed to record it!

At least we now know for sure that it is her. :)

She is! I read somewhere (I'll have to dig out the article for ya) that it was confirmed that she was on the song! I always thought she was anyways. :D

Do you have Tom Petty's boxed set? Well, there is a huge book that comes with it that talks about the recording of the albums and it mentions Stevie and Don't Come Around Here No More. Apparently, Dave Stewart wrote it with her in mind and Tom petty thought that she would love the song and when he presented it to her, she "balked" at the idea of recording it. She apparently didn't get along too well with Mr. Stewart. :(

ETA: It was Sharon that confirmed Stevie singing on Don't Come Around... So, both of them are singing on it! :)

Everybody always thought Stevie should have been Alice in the Don't Come Around Here No More video, especially after TOSOTM came out later and given her friendship with Tom.

Strand, I have a bad copy of Blue Water. I really only like the first line, so maybe the song could be improved.

Dissention, I thank you for the story on Do I Bring You Down, but I absolutely insist my version is Stevie! I'll bring it up when we're stuck in the elevator. You know how she loves discussing stolen demos with the fans. (not cool, incognito)

Yea, the demo definitely needs help. I just think her vocal tricks and her harmony with herself and others (?) are cool on the demo I have. I also like the melody and think it could be made more diverse with production.

I want her next project to be the next FM CD.

With ALL new songs culled from her current journal pages, then collaborated upon with Lindsey.

Ditto for Lindsey, excpet his songs will be on that Four Seasons stationary he likes so much, and the artwork for the next cover shall come from his doddles and caricatures, framed by Stevie's loopy-loos.

Period. Perfect.

do you guys think that she'll pull a couple of more "oldies" out for her next CD?

Oh yea she definitely seems to be doing that lately. And I must say a wise decision too. There's too many great oldies to let them stay in the dark. Sorcerer, Planets Of The Universe, Candlebright, Goodbye Baby, Smile At You, Thrown Down, and Running Through The Garden needed to be heard by the masses. Most of these versions turned out better than their demo counterparts. Then again I still want predominantly new material on her next solo lp, especially since she's writing so well again.

My number 1 wish is the realization of the "Rhiannon Project" with all her old Rhiannon related demo songs on it along with some new ones too to make it more contemporary. Now that would be awesome!!

Like a lot of you I really need to hear Space Needle. I loved that demo and was disappointed on not hearing it on SYW. I'd like to see Annabell Lee find its' way on one of her records too.

Stevie should keep doing her solo albums. She still has to much to give to be confined to Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey works wonders with her but I feel like he only taps a certain dimension. She needs to work with John Shanks again at some point.

I most definitely want new material too... but I also want a nice sprinkling of the vaulted material included as well.
Don't forget that it's our fault that we're all so familiar with these songs.
And I, for one, love finally having "official" versions.

As for the solo vs Fleetwood Mac thing... I want a new Mac album ASAP, but I highly doubt that the band will go straight from the road back into the studio.
No matter how enthusiastic Lindsey remains about doing another Mac album, the man is going to take time off.
As will Mick & John.

So instead of there being nothing in the meantime, I want a new Stevie solo album.

But... I hope she doesn't tour for any length of time.
Release the album, do a few shows in the California area, then get back to the studio with Fleetwood Mac!

Oh, I definitely want to hear mostly new material on her next album. I agree that her writing is better now than it has been in a long time. I just think, like some of the others here, that she has too many great unreleased songs to not let them see the light of day, and I'm glad she's been releasing some of them on her last couple of projects.

As far as a new Mac album/tour, I have my suspicions that this is going to be the last one. I can see Stevie releasing another solo album and doing one more tour, but beyond that...I don't know.

It's not that I'm familiar with the songs from HEARING them, since I don't collect Stevie's demos...I just know the "new" songs are "old" songs 1) because they SOUND "old" ("Candlebright", "Planets Of The Universe" & "Sorcerer"; prime examples) and 2) from reading about them on boards like this.

I don't hear the demos until I'm already familiar with the final "official" version...for the most part.

i never knew that it was written about Joe Walsh...when was it written? in 1983-84? I heard her tell the story about...actually, wait....in a radio show promoting TOSOTM she says how she drove 6 hours up the coast to play "someone" the RAL album which was about to be released and how she said it was a long way to go to say goodbye again...she never mentioned names though...

i wonder who "One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star" was about?

Yup, every single one of her albums has "old" songs:

Bella Donna: After the Glitter Fades, Think About It, Kind of Woman, Leather and Lace, The Highwayman

Wild Heart: Wild Heart, Beauty and the Beast

Rock A Little: Rock A Little (demo dates 1981), Imperial Hotel

OSOTM: Rooms On Fire (1986), Long Way To Go (1985), Juliet (1986?)

Street Angel: Rose Garden, Greta (1984-ish), Docklands (worked on during OSOTM sessions), Destiny, Love Is Like A River, Jane

TISL: Candlebright, Sorcerer, Planets

She's always had a habit of doing it, but as long as the songs are great, more power to her! :D

And great they are...I just hope she does something with "If You Were My Love," "Julia," "Joan Of Arc" and especially "Space Needle."

A question I want to ask. "If You Were My Love" has many different versions, but which one starts out like this...

Tonight there are no saviours
This night outside my window
And the sun turns away

As the moon falls over the mountains
And you are lost in your dreaming
Where is the wild white rose?

I appoligize for any wrong words or verses, but I haven't listened to this song in about a year--can anyone please tell me which era this is from??? :wavey:

Jason, it sounds like you're referring to the 'Mirage' era demo... which is my personal favorite.

My least favorite version of "If You Were My Love," is the version she did during the 'Street Angel' sessions.
The music doesn't suit the song, and Stevie's delivery is just plain listless.

I can't remember which thread it was now, but I once went album by album and listed all of the "vaulted" songs that Stevie pulled out for each particular release.
Though I think I goofed up on 'Mirror,' as I'm pretty sure I had forgotten that she had written "Long Way To Go" around 1985/1986.

By the way, dissention... I don't think "Rooms On Fire" was written in 1986... she didn't write that one until she started working with Rupert Hine (who also shares a co-writing credit) in 1988.
And I think "Docklands" was a 'Street Angel' era song only. But then, she didn't write that one anyway, so I wouldn't consider it a "vaulted" song, either way. :)

And Docklands *was* worked on in '89. I don't think it was meant for release on OSOTM, she just tinkered with it. It has a very Hine-ish production to it and her voice sounds very much from the Mirror era. It's a pretty crappy version if you ask me. The SA version was better, but it's an awful song to begin with. I have four versions of Docklands on cassette: OSOTM version, two outtakes, and an AWFUL demo. Why I have so many versions of a song I despise...well, I guess I'll never know.

I have a love/hate relationship with "Docklands."
I think Stevie's vocal is wonderful, and I love the choruses and bridge... but I hate, hate, HATE the verses.

And when I think of all the songs that she could have included on the album instead....

Ah well, Stevie apparently liked the song, and it was her album, so I guess there's a good reason she released it.

That she also worked on it around '88/'89 is news to me, but that's one of the things I love about these message boards... you learn something new all the time! :D

I have an awful Docklands demo, too. It sounds like she recorded it the same night she did Dial the Number, in that deep, dragging monotone.

I'd love for her to do a Rhiannon concept album with "Forest of the Black Roses", "Maker of Birds" and any other songs that she wrote dealing with this theme. I think that'd be really cool.

I REAAALLLLYYYYYY want to hear Stevie delve into heavier rock on some of her new album. Not the sort of today, but a heavier version of TISL.. She has done ballads, rock, bordered on synth rock/dance and now shes back to her rock roots maybe shed like to get a bit heavier.

Her voice would suit it, and id love to hear her really take over her songs like on the Red Rocks concert, bordering on musical/emotional screaming... u kno? the rendition of U can talk to me/ edge of 17.

I think her energy is brilliant, she certainly commands the stage in many ways.

I can't wait was fantastic, Ill never forget the day i first heard that song, its beat heavy rock roots are what im looking for. Maybe it did have too many synths in it, but it was the 80s. Something like that, but less of the synths would be realllllyyyy cool.

What ever she does, I hope she uses more piano than she did on TISL. I love TISl, but I love her voice with piano even more. And, I think she should opt for a melodic piano - i.e. compare the beauttiful piano in the demo for "Love Is" to the non-melodic piano in the CD version. Just my $0.02 on how to improve on greatness!!!!

Yes! I love her voice with piano & guitar together, like the HBO concert video, or TWH songs minus the heavy synthesizer sound.
Think Enchanted, Garbo, Wild Heart.

 Yep, I agree totally. The "Love Is" demo is one of the best demos/songs I've heard from Stevie EVER.
