Go to the GYOW (Neil's) site and download the Concert for the Environment!! OMG.....her scream on Edge of 17 is DEMONIC, I swear!! I got chills when she did it!!! She sounds very wasted in terms of her singing....undecipherable at times.

That scream!!!! AAAAHHHHH!!! LOL

Wow! That reminds me of the crazy stuff she did in the Red Rocks video.

Her ranting at the end of SOTM on Mirage was cool, but this kind of nutty screaming sounds a little too weird. A little bit over the top, in my opinion!

All I have to say is that I'm glad I wasn't a Stevie fan back then, because she sounds really bad. Poor Sharon and Lori, how could they know what she'd be singing next?

"Rhiannon" is better... It was the Swan Song for that song.... She never did it like that ever again.... :distress:

She tore up Rhiannon one last time for me on the Whole Lotta Trouble tour at Red Rocks. I remember the end came and I was thinking is she gonna do it? I seem to remember her wearing a black hat. And then all of a sudden " take me like the wind child, take me to the SKY KY KY KY." I was standing there with my jaw dropped. I was holding on to my freind's arm and I think I nearly tore it off. She also hit that note in Talk To Me that blows me away every time I hear it. She also surprised a very pleased audience with If Anyone Falls. She was on fire that night and it's the last time I remember really hearing the full rock version of Rhiannon live in person. :)

All I can say is she barely sings at all on Rhiannon and EO17. She sort of talks it and then screams out made up lyrics, incoherently at times. Although I have always loved her and saw concerts in this era, I really did not like this era for Stevie; she has also unfavorably commented on the quality of her singing during this period. I think most of this just is not singing. Instead, she mostly is not carrying a tune and shows little to no vocal discipline. I think this was just not presenting a show worthy of her talent. This mostly incoherent scream fest/train wreck just cannot favorably compare the vocal quality of her singing today no matter how boring she is now in comparison to then.

On the bright side, she is mostly on key when she is singing.

Thank goodness she got off the drugs!!!!!!

I have never been able (& Lord knows I have tried) to get used to her post-1987 sedateness. We all necessarily create fictions in our mind of these rock stars. My fiction of Stevie Nicks is the "scream fest/train wreck" Stevie Nicks. The charisma she used to have came directly out of the unhinged, Joplin-like attitude the world saw. There was drama in her every move & the script was barebones.

Much as I like the TITN outtake of Juliet, that's exactly what you are talking about. It sounds like she's clearing her throat through a lot of the song and some of the lyrics are indecipherable.

OMG, you are so right about Juliet! Everyone LOVES it to pieces, but it makes me want to vomit. She warbles her way through it, screaming and yelling. Ugh!

I much prefer the RAL tour to the OSOTM tour. OSOTM was just BLAH. She didn't move around at all, just stood in front of the mic, slack-jawed and eyelids drooping. She pretty much talked throughout the songs and didn't do anything to liven 'em up. Like GDW, that was atrocious. Granted, this was when the Klonopin was in full force, but she was just boring. She wasn't BAD, she was dull. I love the RAL tour for it's rawness and wildness. She really cut loose and all her performances (however indecipherable the vocals were) were powerful. :D

Yeah, I agree, in TITN and Mask she just wasn't herself.... the drugs but mostly I think just the overwhelming sadness :(

The Rock a Little era breaks my heart too, because while she is so passionate with her lyrics, she is just soooo gone and we all knew it, I am so happy that she's come full circle with us. Dance/Enchanted/TISL/Say You Will eras, this is like the best she's ever sounded, in my opinion.

Christy, that Edge of 17 was SO out of control! Lindsey's stuff is quite excellent though.

I like Stevie all the way through the Wild Heart tour, then for RAL, while the energy was there, the vocals simply were not. On this EO17, she is so off beat with the music on the fourth verse. And I've heard the Cloaks and Daggers bootleg from '86, and she's just not good on it. As far as the OSOTM tour goes, I think a big problem with this show was not just the klonopin but also the set list. There is that huge block of slower songs: Dreams, Rooms on Fire, Gold Dust Woman (which is usually a rocker but lacked energy here), Alice, then she broke the trend with No Spoken Word but went back to it with How Still My Love and Beauty and the Beast. All in all, there's five up tempo songs in the whole set -- Outside the Rain, No Spoken Word, Stand Back, Whole Lotta Trouble, and Edge of 17.

OK I REALLY need to get up to speed on Stevie's performances from like 1985 on. I know from videos and bootlegs that Stevie was ON with a capitol "O" from 1975-1983. Great vocals, full of energy. Sometimes she'd speak in tounges but you can understand her. And she was at her best from 1975-83. And then the rock a Little tour, as I gather from bootlegs and Red Rocks was also full of energy and the vocals were good on Red Rocks, but from all other bootlegs from this tour her vocals sucked, and is at time uncomprehensable. Then from the Tango tour to now I'm confused as to when Stevie has been at her worst or where she's at her best. I've for a long time from what i understand, The Timespace tour was Stevie at her absolute dead boring and worst. But someone on this thread has said that on the Timespace tour Stevie was tearing it up. And then there's the OSOTM tour, which I've also heard was Stevie at her worst. But then there's someone saying that the OSOTM tour wasn't as bad as Tango and BTM. And then there's Stevie now. I personally thought I saw Stevie tearing up Rhiannon on this SYW tour pretty well. And Stand Back was just ripped to shreads too. And her vocal performance is just great. And same foes for her energy. But I only have been to one show and that was this year. I have bootlegs and videos, but i have a feeling those aren't enough..
.
SO you know what would REALLY help me out. It might take some time. But can some veteran concert goer, like rate every single Stevie tour (Solo and Mac) from 1983 to Now. Just to show me where Stevie stood. And to make it easier you can skip 1975-1982 because i know that was her at her best.

The Wild Heart- McNichols Sports Arena- She walked out, said "Welcome to my world" and rocked on from there. The next day she and Joe Walsh took the infamous drive to Estes Park which inspired her to write HAEWAFY. No flaws in the vocals, not much talking but she danced and sang her ass off. She seemed on. I was on sensory overload since it was the first time I'd seen her-ever. The clothes-incredible.
TITN- liked Don't Let Me Down Again. I had floor seats and the band sounded good but not seeing LB was a disappointment. Sounded to me like they were using some kind of effects on her vocals.
BTM- 2 nights at Red Rocks. Big fun- "Don't Burn Down Red Rocks." Night one shot a video for Skies The Limit, invited us all to stay and we did. Stevie looked and sounded great on night one. It's the last time I remember the original Rhiannon top hat being worn. Great clothes. Sang a bit lower and dodged a few of the high notes. Night two, she appeared tired and I think started to cry on stage prompting Rick Vito to ask Christine McVie "What's wrong with Stevie?" She pulled it together though.

Time for bed..more to come.

I remember seeing the Timespace - whole lotta trouble- show at Irvine, and it was the last full blown Rhiannon I witnessed. The costumes were out of control. Full on shoulder pads and tons of fabric flying all over the place. She looked radiant that night.
TITN and BTM - she sleepwalked through every show I saw. Loved seeing her - but I'd be a liar if I didn't say the performances were dull.
I saw some fantastic SA shows. Really good stuff. There were even some moments at the Roxbury show that shocked me they were so good. Of course, the last show of the tour at the HOB was strange and the vocals were strangely weak. I didn't notice her weight much, believe it or not.
I miss the craziness and intensity of the drug fueled perfomances. I really do. Of course I am happy that she isn't on coke and alcohol now. She'd almost certainly have died if she hadn't stopped. But are the performances as compelling these days ? There are moments. Stand Back is always great. GDW is consistently moving. Her vocals are more controlled and consistent than ever. Would I like more intensity ? Yes, I would.
I am however, happy with what I get.

I thought she was okay if not good when I saw her on the TITN tour in New Orleans. She is also good in the video at Cow Palace, esp. in Seven Wonders. This was, however, when her voice changed. It almost sounds like it is a "comnputer" voice.

As for the OSOTM tour, she literally stood in front of the mic. in Houston and did not move much except for a couple of twirls. She was very heavy and looked and probably was completely and totally drugged up out of her mind. I remember feeling very, very sorry for her and thinking she was back on something and would probably and sadly die from it.

Then, in the BTM tour she was much slimmer really good and somewhat energetic when I saw her in Dallas. She also wore really cool clothing including a very short mini.

Street Angel just rocked - period!

My tour ratings:

1983 ~ The Wild Heart Tour: Stevie was very good during this tour. She interacted with the audience a lot and her vocals, for the most part, were great. Towards the end of the tour, though, you could tell the tour was taking a toll on her voice; still fab though. She was very energetic during this tour. (A)

1986 ~ The Rock A Little Tour: Raw rock 'n roll. Stevie left her inhibitions at the door and did crazy stuff every night. She didn't follow a script and just did whatever she pleased. During "I Can't Wait" she did all the moves from the video. :) She wailed during every song, but it contributed to the atmosphere. (B+)

1989 ~ The OSOTM Tour: Just plain boring. You wait for her to kick it into gear and she never does. She sleepwalks through it and gives emotionless performances. HAEWAFY was good, though. The rockers were weird because the music rocked, but her vocals were so slow and plodding. GDW had a new freaky arrangment and her slooooooowly enunciated vocals didn't complement it. (C-)

1991 ~ Timespace (Whole Lotta Trouble): Another boring tour. The costumes were...odd. They were, like, vinyl dusters. This was the tour that got her into hot water with the IRS about her costumes. It seemed like there were good nights and very bad nights on this tour. Edge of 17 was fabulous at every show but the other songs were yucky. Too much cheesy keyboards and synthesizers on all the songs. She didn't look like she was enjoying it. SDMHA was fun though. I have a video where she shoves the male singer away from the mic after the chorus. Literally pushes him away. Like Elaine on Seinfeld. (C+)

1994 ~ Street Angel Tour: FABULOUS. One of her very best tours. Every performance seemed to be awesome. Her vocals were POWERFUL. She performed the worst songs from the album, but that was okay because she put so much poassion and effort into the every song. Outside the Rain, Edge of 17, and Stand Back were stand-outs; they were great. (A+)

1998 ~ Enchanted Tour: Another fabulous tour. The set-list was GREAT; the best ever. She put everything she had into the songs and she looked like she was having a blast, all smiles. Edge of 17 had some amazing wails, GDW was full-on amazing, and the acoustic set was a dream come true. I can't say a bad thing about it. (A+)

2001 ~ Trouble In Shangri-La Tour: Great set-list, very weak and thin vocals. I don't know what happened to her voice, but it was incredibly weak throughout most of the tour. After she got sick, it took her about a good month and a half to recover, but when she did, the shows were awesome. But most of the tour was very weak, like I said. She performed tons of TISL songs, which was great. The stage was awesome, too, it really set the mood for the shows. (B+)

Just my opinions! :D

I agree with the Timespace assessment, but SA only getting a B?! Enchanted getting a C?!?!?!?!?!?! LOL

Why would you give the tours those ratings? I'm being serious, I'd love to hear your takes on them :)

Yes, thank goodness. She sounds high as a kite in this performance--coked out to the nth degree. I wonder if she spit up pea soup while her head spun during the demonic caterwalling in the middle of the song.

While I agree OSOTM and Timespace were Stevie's two worst tours, they do have their moments. The whole lotta trouble tour was a bit odd because there were songs that Stevie really seemed to get into, like Talk to Me, SDMHA, If Anyone Falls, Edge of 17, and even a little bit of Rhiannon. Then there were songs she just seemed bored with, like Dreams (although I can imagine why), Beauty and the Beast, Whole Lotta Trouble (why I don't know -- such an energetic song), and LAHGTP whenever she did it. Like I said, the OSOTM tour just had too many lower tempo songs...which you can't expect her to do much in them. But, I absolutely love the fan twirl before Alice, and I love the Whole Lotta Trouble performances during this tour.
