If you haven't downloaded the Concert for the Environment tracks...I STRONGLY advise you to do so!!

The ISA will blow your mind!!! His vocals are AMAZING and the guitar solo is DARK and he goes NUTS at the end ala this tour!!
NGBA is ALSO amazing....his voice is so sweet sounding and just AWESOME!!

These two tracks will be the ONLY (that we know of so far!!) taste we'll ever get of what it would have been like to have Lindsey part of the TITN tour. :(

My gawd...Edge of 17....she sounds undecipherable at times. WOW. She's gone. LOL OMG......HOLY CRAP....she's possessed!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys GOTTA hear the scream!!!!!! It's DEMONIC....seriously!!!!!! I got chills listening to it!!!!!

These are very good tracks. I really like the intro to Stand Back, though that's a little off topic. the speech before NGBA seems vaguely familiar;) evidently big love isn't the only thing he's doing a little bit different than 1986(still referring to the speech).

Thanks for the tip, Christy.... I'm d/ling now.... I had no idea Stevie and Lindsey were on good enough terms to do a concert together at that time, I thought the late 80's were "the dark years"  Thanks again!

Anyone know if Lindsey did the other songs with Stevie?

They didn't really do a concert together. I was at this show. In fact, this recording is the recording I myself made. Neil's got the wrong date on it. It was August 28, 1986. It was Stevie's last solo appearance in the Los Angeles area in 1986.

This was a big benefit that Henley put together with all his pals in the music biz to raise money to support some of the environmental & development issues in L.A. that year -- something to do with commercial development & safe drinking water. The show was called "Get Tough on Toxics."

Performers included Jimmy Buffett, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, the Eagles (sans Glenn Frey, who was laid up in hospital), Cheech Marin (whose "Born in East L.A. was a hit that year), Lindsey, Stevie & Mick.

Lindsey played his own set with his own band: "I'm So Afraid" & "Never Going Back Again." Stevie & Mick played a brief set of "Rhiannon," "Edge of Seventeen" & "Stand Back," & Stevie returned later in the evening to perform "Leather & Lace" with Henley (only the fourth time she had ever performed the song live with him). Stevie's band was her tour band.

Interesting sidenote: Joni sang "Cool Water" in her set. Robert Hilburn reviewed the show for the L.A. Times, saying that Lindsey & Warren Zevon were the two highlights.

Thanks for clearing that up, David! :)

Thanks David for that run-down. Joni Mitchell - singing 'Cool Water' at the clean water benefit - lol! It's a wonder she didn't recruit John to play bass and b/g vocals. :P

ISA was great in terms of vocal and that insane guitar at the end, but the drums were not what I'm used to :distress: . Mick does that song best I think  .

NGBA blew me out of my chair! First that chillingly innocent preamble - he obviously wanted TITN to be a healing process and gave himself up for it, but then he ended up feeling used and abused yet again. Then the song, which he dedicated to them, was all about "Well, I've been down withthem before, but not again!" :( So it's quite a bittersweet listening experience.
But all that falsetto at the end is beautiful. :)

Well I've only got Stand Back and edge of 17. And I've got to say Stand Back really SUCKS. I have to say that was the worst Stand Back I've ever heard. The intro was really annoying and Stevie can't sing the song very well. And edge was definitly a big improvment on Stand Back. The scream was very much like red rocks, but a tad bit more bewitching and haunting. I do have to say that at times it was like the backup singers were singing the song and Stevie just showed up from time to time with a mumble or a howl. The Part of the song where stevie is in the hall and the running uop and down and that part is just incomprehendable. But overall it wasn't bad. It was good in a messed up way:laugh:

I could only download and save the first 2 songs in their entirety. The other 3 only played until the half way point and just stopped and I couldn't get them to save on my computer. Anyone else run into this problem?

Thank you for giving us that info!!

Who comprised Lindsey's band? Do ya know?

Robert Hilburn reviewed the show for the L.A. Times, saying that Lindsey & Warren Zevon were the two highlights.

As always. ;) Hehe.

WedChild...No, I downloaded them all okay, maybe the site is getting a lot of traffic....try them again later. I hope they work for ya!! :)

David,

So who was in Lindsey's band at that show? Must've been a "one-off" band JUST for that performance, right?

I remember talking to David about this show a few times before. I think he said that Never Going Back Again was LB alone, and that Don Henley's female bassist at the time (name?) accompanied Lindsey on I'm So Afraid. Not sure about any names though. I didn't get the impression that these were people Lindsey had worked with before, but rather these were people who were already at the show as members of other performer's bands, and Lindsey "borrowed" them for his song.

I believe Mick was there, but evidently he didn't play with Lindsey.

I agree Joe, the intro to NGBA is pretty bittersweet. I tend to suspect he was expressing a wish for how he wanted those Tango sessions to be, instead of how they were. Right after Tango was released, Lindsey was still telling some of the press that he wanted the Tango sessions to be remembered as healing, but I think he was just trying to put a happy face on a miserable situation because he didn't want to walk away with only bad memories.

Cool, I'm so happy these are available for download. Thanks Neil! And thanks for the heads up Christy!

I've got the L.A. Times review of this show tucked away somewhere. I can post it later if y'all are interested.

Just a guess: they were guys like Danny Kortchmar, who played on "Building the Perfect Beast" with Don the year before. Jennifer C. played the bass.

I believe Mick was there, but evidently he didn't play with Lindsey.Mick played congas with Stevie but didn't do anything with Lindsey.

I thought how cool it was going to be to get a Fleetwood Mac album that was not only healing but great in & of itself as a work of pop art. I had no idea what the truth was, or that another eight or ten months would pass before it was released. Then again, it's possible that some of the really bad **** that went down hadn't yet occurred.

Who is the chick introducing Lindsey? It doesn't sound like Stevie to me...she sounds like she has an accent.

Anyone know?

Man, I know some people like that kind of unintelligible Stevie, but I can't stand it. It makes me wince to listen to her, she was so out of it. Now, during Mirage SOTM I like it due to that fact that she did it because she was so into the song. On the other hand, for these benefit songs, she did it because her addled brain couldn't remember what the lyrics actually were. I find it pretty sad, actually.

I'm so excited to hear Lindsey live in the late eighties! Great, as always. :)

I s thinking te same thing as you Christy, this is our sample of what Lindsey would've been like on the TITN tour. And unlike Stevie he wasn't at the bottom of his career creativle. In fact he's quite possibly at the peak. And that I'm so afraid was definitly smokin. And the intro to Never Going Back Again was REALLY sad. He's like saying all these nice things about the band, and how he loves them and he dedicates his performance to them, but we all know in about a year he divorces them:distress: And I also love Stevie's I want to do more songs but Don won't let me.

It was definitely a real treat to hear those two tracks...many, many thanks to David and Neil !!:)

Possibly the only recording available that shows us what LB would have been like had he toured in '88....and I must say..it would probably have been (at least from an LB fan's point of view) the greatest Fleetwood Mac tour ever...His voice during I'm So Afraid is absolutely, and effortlessly, M I N D B L O W I N G....(ANY of you who think Lindsey needs "voice coaching"...I STRONGLY recommend you to download and listen to these tracks!). The solo is awesome and did you all hear that little bit of crazy pawing away at the strings right at the end...??;) Hehehe...he was giving us a taste of what's to come...(ok..well..it came 17 years later...but....better late than never!!....lol...!)

I doubt a video of it even exists, but I'd certainly pay a lot of $$$ to see it!

I LOVE Lindsey's songs from that show! NGBA is probably the best I've ever heard it. I'm So Afraid was great, but some of his vocals made me wince; when he sang some of the lines, he had a very Stevie-like vibratto going on! :D

Stevie's songs aren't very good. I had to stop Rhiannon, it's just awful. I liked a lot of her performances during the RAL tour, but this is just horrific. :(
