I'm putting this here because of the Stevie-Waddy connection, though this is not really about Stevie.
This might be common knowledge already, but I thought some folks might find it interesting.
Found on the net:
" 'Waddy' was born Bob Wachtel. He got his unusual nickname from a guy Watchel played with in a band in high school. Wachtel criticized this other guy's playing ability. This other guy, for little apparent reason, said 'Shut up, Waddy.' The nickname stuck and Wachtel said he came to like it."
Glad to know his folks didn't stick him with the name.
And BTW, had Stevie & Waddy married, these names would have been more confusing to the general public than Stevie & Lindsey. (Is Stevie the guy with the long hair, and Waddy the hot blonde?)

LOL, when I first read "Shut up, Waddy" I thought this was a thread complaining that he sings Tom Petty's lines when the do SDMHA live.

Jake, if you are interested in Waddy, you might want to check out his Q & A here on the Penguin. It's got a lot of great information about him! It was written by my good friend, blackcat. I think you would really enjoy it--she put a LOT of effort into it!
Patti
PS. I can't imagine anyone referring to Waddy as the "hot blonde"! ;)

I like Waddy singing, and my favorite version of SDMHA is on the White Wing Dove concert video.
Also, I recently bought Zevon's album Genius, which contains a song with a lyric bout Waddy drinking rye. My favorite line in the song.
I'll check out the Q & A.
BTW, I'd never say Waddy is a hot blonde, but I would say he has Stevie's hair circa 1975.:)

Patti, I read the Q & I. Wow, it's long. I can see it was time-consuming to put together.
I loved the story about the draft & not washing at all.
I'm intrigued by Stevie singing Dolly Parton songs in the old days. Now THOSE would be some valuable bootlegs.
Being a fan, I do wish there was more about Warren Zevon.
All in all, a great job on covering Mr. Wachtel.

blackcat supplied me with some websites for you to look at. She is unable to post, therefore, I'm her spokeswoman! Here you go:

She says these are the best three--ENJOY!!

Please thank blackcat for me. I will check out the websites, but I still want more on Zevon from Waddy's P.O.V. In the Q & A Waddy mentions that Warren is extremely difficult to produce, and I want more insight.:)

Want, want, want!!!! ;)
I have passed your request on to blackcat. I'll let you know what she says. Not sure she has any more information, but it's worth a try!

H.M. Jake (and that stand for High Maintenance, NOT His Majesty!).
I just heard from blackcat and she said that was pretty much all the information she has about the working relationship between Warren and Waddy. It wasn't something she wanted to delve into too deeply because of Warren's illness.
Patti
P.S. Waddy's home number is 1-800-the-waddster!

Thanks for letting me know. There's still part of me thinking that Warren might pull through this.
I tried the number you provided, but it didn't work. The operator was no help. It seems there are lots of Waddy Wachtels listed. Do you know the street?

Well, I didn't know the number had been disconnected. But of course you couldn't find him with directory assistance. You should have been searching for ROBERT Wachtel.
Geez, some people....

Geez, some people is right. Why would I look for a ROBERT Wachtel? After all, his real name is Bobby. I'm not falling for this nonsense.:distress: :wavey:

Well you obviously didn't read that Q&A session too thoroughly, Mr. Royal Pain High Maintenance. It says right in the opening lines (after the David Letterman part), ROBERT "Waddy" Wachtel. Although I guess it's a little-known fact that his middle name is Waddy, not that other trumped up story you quoted.
Ta ta!:wavey:

I did TOO read it. It states very clearly that his parents named him Bobby, but that he got out of the draft by entering himself incognito into a Yorkie rescue ranch. Stevie adopted him, thinking he was a tall Yorkie, took him to the groomer, and then got fined when he bit the groomer. She wadded up the bill and threw it across her beautifully tiled bathroom, thus earning him the name "Waddy". Until he stopped smoking joints with Lindsey he didn't think to correct her.
Of course, I'm paraphrasing.

I loved it when Waddy was on Letterman with Stevie (I think) and Dave was like, "Is that Waddy Wachtel? Damn, you're on here with everybody!" (or something like that), lol.

If you're going to promote drinking on this board, it might be something like this:
