Can anyone explain to me why Stevie was not on VH1's top 200 pop icons list???? WTF?

How are people like Chris Rock and the character of Wonder Woman more iconic than Stevie Nicks? Please . . . .

Here is the link to the list:

Reese Witherspoon? Ben Affleck? They're just babies. How can they be icons? I guess Legally Blonde was better than I thought!

Who else has an annual "Night of a 1000 Stevies", except Stevie?
Well, you know what I mean.

While Janet and Whitney may be recognizeable by their first name (albeit through self promotion), who doesn't know what a Stevie Nicks outfit looks like. PUUHHHLLEEZZEE!!!!!

Not to start an argument, because I agree that Stevie's absence is a glaring omission, but..

I find it a little funny that as much as we bitch here about how sucky pop culture is- and you can't deny that we do, we gripe about it all the time- that we would want her included on this list.

BESIDES, if they had included Stevie on the list, they wouldn't have put her at Number 1, and that would give us one more thing to complain about. "OMG MONICA IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN STEVIE?"

So I just chalk it up to Screw you, VH1, your programming sucks donkeys anyway.

Stevie is so much beyond being just a pop icon, she is on her own list.

:D

What do they base their criteria on? If it's mass influence and appeal then Stevie MUST be on the list. Not only is she considered a primary influence as a vocalist and songwriter by countless other female (and male) artists, but also her fashion and sense of style is burned into our pop-culture psyche and emulated by tons of people. She is adored by thousands if not millions of people (well, maybe not millions, but she sure is damn popular around the world!) and is one of the most well-known women in music.

Stevie Nicks is a pop-culture icon, make no mistake about it!

I mean, how the hell could Axl Rose make the list and not Stevie? This is madness!!!!

I get more and more disappointed in VH1's lists of the "greatest" so and so each time I watch them.

You know, Madonna and Marilyn are definitely more of a pop icon than Oprah, for goodness sake!!!

Wake up VH1!!!!!

Yeah, VH1 definitely screwed this one up, and I can say with confidence that we're not just saying that cuz we're her fans. How Sarah Jessica Parker and Reese Witherspoon made this list & not Stevie - hello? Paula

PS - I do have to say that I think it's OK that Wonder Woman is on there - who doesn't know about the magic lasso & bulletproof arm cuffs, LOL!

Well you just have to consider the source.

VH1 is VH1. They cater to a certain demographic.

If you want to see objectivity and intelligence, you'd have to ask The New York Times or The Discovery Channel or somebody like that to make a similar list.

Up until Jayson Blair came along I'd have agreed with you about the New York Times. Their credibility is pretty damaged for the time being.

Here's the thing with all of VH1 and MTV's "all-time" lists. They are always chock full of current celebrities. Plus the requisite legit (not that I always agree) icons. When they do another "all time" pop icons list next year, I guarantee at least half the people on this yrs list will be gone.

I'd say Stevie didn't make the list because she's a journeyman, workhorse, survivor. That's not interesting enough for the quick-cut MTV personalities out there. My point is (and I did start with one) that Stevie will be on everyone's icon list long after most of this yrs people are on VH1's "Where are they now"?

Here endeth the gripe-fest...

I was shocked Stevie wasn't on the list, too.

I mean, how is Leonardo DiCaprio an icon? John Wayne, yeah. But Leo DiCaprio?!

Dissention,

Your Leo point is just what I'm talking about. He is a celebrity, a movie star, a personality, just like John Wayne was. But the leap to icon hasn't (and probably won't) taken place. Nobody uses Leo-isms, nobody talks like Leo, nobody dresses like Leo and people (other than subscribers to Tiger Beat) don't buy Leo items at auctions. Granted, his career is still new, but 100 yrs from now, he'll probably be featured on the aforementioned "Where Are They Now?"

Back on Point: Stevie is an icon and will be on everyone's legitimate list when the flavors of the month are ruled out.

Leonardo maybe "King of the World! (Titanic quote)" But Stevie is The Emperess of our hearts. So there! (They need a smiley with its tounge sticking out)

 :distress: Ya, I was in the Grocery store and saw that VH1's 200 whatever...lol...and so I was looking through it and I found Cher and Madonna--I'm not sure if Cyndi Lauper was on there---HOLY CRAP, I DON'T THINK ANNIE LENNOX OR JAMIE LEE CURTIS WAS ON THERE, EITHER! Anyway, that list is just pure BULLSH!T! You don't leave out Icon's that have actually made a difference in this world. I mean, BRITNEY SPEARS? WAS THAT HO ON THERE? THAT JHO BETTER HAVE NOT, NEITHER...Anyway, I think that pop culture is G O N E! The new generation that i'm a part of...It's crap! I'm telling you! Crap! There are only a few reasonable artists, P!nk, Avril, Michelle Branch...<~~~They're not that bad but...You can't leave out the real Icon's...What is the world coming to? As Lindsey would say! Grrr....Here's my own list...

1. Stevie Nicks
2. Annie Lennox
3. Cyndi Lauper
4. Cher
5. Madonna
6. Jamie Lee Curtis
7. Christine McVie
8. Fleetwood Mac
9. Tina Turner
10. David Bowie
11. Ozzy

LOL! I can't like think anymore but those people are who I think should have had a spot--I know that some on that small list made it on the VH1 one, but I just thought it would be fun to make my top 10...LOL...Meh...Erm...I'll be going now...
