I've been listening to more Stevie songs lately.. usually I'm more of a Lindsey girl, but you know.. I have love for all the Mac people. Anyway.

I was just kinda wondering, what are some of your favorite "Stevie Snippets" ?? I don't mean an entire lyric, an entire chorus, or verse.. just a quick little phrase. Let me know what some of your favorites are, and, whether you like that phrase in particular because of the words, the way she says it, or other. I've got to think for a bit about this, but for instance..

in Seven Wonders, I adore the way she says, "if i hope, and if i pray, ooo then it might work out someday.." because of her voice at that part.

(just to let you know, I just typed up a very long reply and it got erased. Don't you hate that?)

Since you brought up Seven Wonders, I love the part where she sings "that kiiiiind of intensity". It's just, well, intense :p

If we can include Stevie's live exercisms here  I would have to say my favortive is GDW from The Dance...."and go HOOOOOOMAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!" Go Stevie! Who knew she could still do that? And to think they left GDW off the CD. Absolute travesty. They could have atleast released a 2CD limited edition of the Dance with ALL the songs included: Gold Dust Woman, Gypsy, Go Insane (atleast we now how that!), Over My Head, and Songbird. (good version of OMH, but not my favorite. I love the early ones with Stevie singing backup on the "your love is like a circus wheel" part. She sounds great on it esp. during the White Album tour.

okay....let me think of some more.......

Lady from the mountain- "did she call out, did she say please save me....whooaaa tonight...." once again, love the intensity.

Dreams (the Dance)- "here I go again I see the crystal visions". She gives that line a special oomph (sp? lol) that she never had before.

Wild Heart- "blame it on my WILD HEARRTTTT!!!!...even in the darkest places of your mind..." I guess by now you can figure out I love it for the intensity!

wow, there are tons. Way too many to post right now! and, if I can cheat, I love the way she sings the entire SOTM from the Mirage video. It's just incredible

From "She Loves Him Still":

So, how are you?
Have you learned to deal with it?
"Oh, no," she says, "No, I have not learned"
You see, I cannot deal without it
So the flame still burns
The flame burns on

I think this verse says VOLUMES about her and LB.

From "Think About It"

Take on the situation
But not the torment.

Lots of wisdom in that, IMO.

From Seven Wonders, when it goes back to the first verse and she says "It's a certain time, it's a certain place..."

From I Don't Wannna Know, the end, "Oooooooooooh, I don't wanna KNOW-oooooooooooh!"

From Everybody Finds Out, "Don't you know, Don't you know-ooooooooooooooh!"

I have more, I just can't think of any at this late hour...

Some of my favorite "vocal snippets" are....

The "vamp" on the Wild Heart....the way she sings the whole last part of that song is just so uninhibited.....she REALLY throws it all out there.

Same with the "vamp" on Nightbird...when she sings..."and you feel the touch...the touch that you want so much..."

And in Beauty and The Beast...when she's practically whispering..."my beauty...my beauty"

(The Wild Heart is my absolute favorite Stevie album)

Other favorite "vocal snippets..."

When Stevie sings..."You didn't mean to meet her you cry...oh, but the sun goes down every night..."She's practically 'biting' those words out...(as if she is saying..."yeah, right buddy..")

I love her voice behind her voice during the chorus of "Straight Back"....(Hours and hours of waiting for you) and the fade out in the end of the song....very mystical.

Lyrically.....I could post LITERALLY a hundred of them.......but a FEW of my favorites are:

"So I close my eyes softly...'til I become that part of the wind that we all long for sometime..."

"Even though the living is sometimes laced with lies......it's alright"

"And she in all her magic, with hands as quick as light...took him to be a challenge...and went into the night."

"The two of us......estranged sometimes for their very survival...outraged at each other...engaged to each other in their hearts.....but they live apart." :distress:

"Like Alice thru the looking glass...she use to know who she was"

"Well, I either say too much or I don't say enough....well, I play too hard but still i'm not tough enough..."

Okay....I won't bore you anymore.....still I could go on!!

I've always loved the snippet of "Love Changes" when Stevie sings "Ooh you stand there, you've got nothing to hold..."

I love the way she says the words "got nothing"...just one of those little quirks, I guess :D

Since I have hundreds of favorites (Stevie fan since childhood, here!) I could never list them all. I'll toss out a few that come to mind right now, though:

Talk to Me: I LOVE her voice on the 'to veil a swelling tear' part.

Wild Heart: the ending...the sound of her voice on 'blame it on my wild wild wild WILD HEART!"

The Highway Man: 'a dream begun in wine'

Bella Donna : '...but the woman is so tired...and so the woman disappears'

Silver Springs (the Dance): '...never get away, never get away' (enough said, I think! lol)

I thought of a few more:

Twisted (near the end): "And the sun goooooes down, CHASING down the demons, you think you hear demons, I think YOU are the demons!"

Stand Back: "Why don't you taaaaaaaaaaake me home?"

And agreeing with TwoTricky on Nightbird: "You feel the touch, it's the touch that you WANT SO MUUUUCH!"

By the way, mine are purely vocal snippets. I have tons of favorite lyrics too.

I absolutely love Twisted.....but in the end she is in the background singing "the sun goes down".....love that......I also love in If You Ever Did Believe the background vocals all through the song.... whoas and ahas.......I did not do them justice so go have a listen......and the line "have you forgotten me", and of course the "baby don't leave me"....I might as well just put the whole song in.....

there are many, of course, but I was singing in the shower along with my Tusk CD this morning, and a couple stood out during "Angel":

"and we both pretend.... no great pretender" <--- I LOVE how she says "no great pretender" it is so sultry and sexy.

and when she wails after "that girl was me" and "track a ghost through the fog" towards the end.... so great! :) that's one of the parts they show her doing during the Tusk documentary, if i'm not mistaken...

"Angel" is such a great song~ she just rocks out with her voice during that whole song.

Rooms On Fire: At the end, the "There is maaagic" line and then "I have known this much longer..."

Ooh My Love: "Ooh hey, hey baby, no one can take you away from me, no one..."

Something Exquisite: "In the dim light of her room she feels a strange misgiving." I had this song in my head all last week and couldn't remember which song it was. Also "brilliant are your colors baby."

"Ooh downstairs where the big old house is mine, Ooh upstairs where the stars still laugh and shine..."

Yes! That part gives me chills everytime I watch/hear it.

Two of my all-time favorite Stevie snippets are the "oooh's and aaaahs" at the beginning of "Blue Lamp" and the end when she sings a string of "and the stars still laugh and cry and shine and the stars still laugh and cry and shine etc..."

and who can forget the gutteral cat-like wail in the middle of EO17? Arguably the most well-known solo Stevie snippet.

"As the moon goes over the mountain and you are lost in your dreaming. Where is the wild white rose? Ooooooo ahhh my hand reached for numbers....for someone that could tell me....ohhh if you were my love, you were my love." If You Were My Love

"No speed limit, this is the fast laaaane! That's just the waaaaay thaaat it is heeaaahhhhh!" Bella Donna

"So i'm back to the velveeeeeeeeetaaaauuuuunderground back to the floor that I love. To a room with some lace and paper flowers, back to the gypsy that waaaassss, to the gypsy, that I waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasss." Gypsy
:p

"Maybe you attention was more than I could...more than I could do" Stand Back SNL 1983 Live Always loved that performance!
:)

"The timeless face of a rock and roll women while her heart breaks...oh, the dream keeps coming even when you forget to feel" After the Glitter Fades

and many more!

What jumped out in my mind immediately when I read this was the entire ending of 'Storms.'

"We were frail~
She said every night he will break your heart...
I should have known from the first~
I'd be the broken hearted...
I loved you from the start..."

And then the part that gets me every time:

"Save us~
And not all of the prayers in the world...
Could save us..."

So Sad!:(

Ya, I LOVE Blue Lamp too, but I don't like how at the end it gets going really strong "....the light that I caried from my father's home...." and then it fades out. Is there an extended version of that song?

I even bought a blue lamp after I first heard that song!

I love the "Was it all that hard....was it all that tough...." part in Talk to me...

And in Thousand days the spoken part which goes into the "whyyyy does the greatest love become the greatest paiiiin...." love that whole part....

There are tons, many of which are already mentioned above, that I just love!!!

Really, I could pick at least one from every song. Here are a few that come to mind.

WH: "Fire on fire, rain on my face" (I picture the shot of her in the black dress in the Gypsy video)

RTTG: "Runnin' through the garden/I'm running in brilliant colors" (I'm not kidding I almost typed "I'm running in all black fabrics" just now. Damned song parodies!)

The Dealer: "I would be the passion/You could be the play"

LFTM: "And maybe, if that woman could make you crazy/Did she call out/Did she say please save me tonight...tonight...tonight"

Nightbird: "DO-do-do DO-do-do"

The Highwayman: "Today and still today they ride/Will they ever win"

Blue Lamp: "And the light that shines through the shining night"

Sanctuary: "MmmMmmm...mine alone"

- Jake

SOTM: "And a black widow spider makes more sou-ound than she"

Garbo: " I love to waltz with a man in a __________/All alone at a party with someone I knew/From a time gone by, turned to stone"

". . . Well, I've got all these things
All these things
But a small gold band
On my finger
On my left hand"

So ironic that Stevie wrote "Rose Garden" in 1965 - it now seems so sad.

Oooh..I just remember one of my absolute favorites!!!

The part in Whole Lotta Trouble: "oh yeah.....oh yeah...not guilty have mercy....well he says you could be my prisoner...well you're not living in the real world....you're not living in the real world....."
OMG..I LOVE that!!!

It is IMPOSSIBLE to pick favorites for me, because almost all of Stevie's songs have these "snippets"! They are one of the many, many things that make her songs so unique, passionate and spontaneous! The first one to enter my mind, though, is "that is how songs are written, stories are told, rumours are started....." Wow.

What a creative thread! One of my favorite snippets is during "Sometimes It's a Bitch." It's at the verse right before the final chorus. It's almost a cappella(sp?). Anyway, she's singing lead as well as backing vocals and during the line "and I've cried a river of tears from the pain..." I don't know about you guys but the sound of she harmonizing with herself on the word "pain" in that line is soooo beautiful to me. I could listen to it over and over again. I know it's like very specific but I happened to notice it one day and now every time I listen to this song I can't wait until that part:)

It's cool that it's tiny! One of my very favorites is the smallest little detail...

the doo..doo da doo.. doo.. in gypsy. she says it kinda for no reason, but its so cute there, and i always have to sing it too.

This IS a creative thread!

Even though it's so hard for me to choose, I thought I'd also throw in some of my faves from the new album...

"I wouldn't trade you for jade or for diamonds
Not for one minute, not for anything"
(Her voice is SO powerful there and her phrasing is~as usual~exquisite)

In RTTG, any time she says "turn around" and also the fact that she sings the same note for every word in the line "like I am in prison". That is SO Stevie (to not change the note). Hell, the whole rest of the song as well!:D

Another one......

The way she sings the word "stay" in "Would you stay if she promised you heaven?" in the White Album/single version of Rhiannon.
