i saw the video for Hold Me the first time yesterday, and first of all id like to say that stevie looks stunning in it. But is there any particular reason why Lyndsey isnt in it? There's a guy in it wearing the outfit from the Mirage concert but u never actually see his face so i can only assume it was a body double.

Lindsey is in the video. All 5 band members are in it.

I saw "Hold Me" for the first time yesterday also, along with every other Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks video -- I was so blown away...but I recall Lindsey being in the video, quite a bit. Come on gold dust, even I saw him and that is because I was almost knocked unconscious by the "Every Day" video.

That is Lindsey.......

He is VERY much there. That video is the one that hooked me into the band. I still remember seeing it at my freind's house back in 82. Stevie did look stunning, didn't she?

A couple of years ago, during the VH1 'Pop Up Video' series, they did a real funny one on Hold Me. I do not remember all of the tid bits but the funniest part was how they do the part with Lindsey throwing the guitar into the mirage. On the first take they show Lindsey throwing the guitar into what was a piece of glass and his guitar bounces back at him and he has to jump out of the way.

Lindsey and Christine are in that vid the most since they both sing the song.

The guy in the hat is Lindsey.

My fav. quote about that video is SN saying something like "of course we are in the 100 degree 8:00 a.m. heat in the Mojave (sp?) desert and my job is, of course, to lie on a chaise lounge and look cool!!!!!"

Cool video.

That was sooo funny! I remember watching that show and busting out laughing at Lindsey and Stevie's comments about the making of that video.

This was the very first video that I saw of theirs back in 1982 and that is where my love affair with the Mac began. This is my favorite video of theirs. Lindsey is wearing the cream colored hat, the white shirt and slacks and the saddle shoes. He walks through the desert and has the paint brush in his hand but walks away from the canvas. He also breaks the glass wall with his guitar. This was suppose to be a continual idea throughout the video but due to cost and difficulty shipping the glass in and in the pop up video there was a difficulty breaking the glass the first time.
Stevie is gorgeous on her chaise lounge under the beating sun and then she paints herself. Then walks on the sand cliff with her painting in those famous platforms. She is also the figure all in black in the beginning and in the mirror shards with the black hat and cane, she stated it was so hot being in that outfit as temps were around 102. Mick and John are goofy sliding in the sand into a guitar pit. Christine looks so cool and poised in her little room of paintings with her telescope. She wears a white flowing dress and dangling earrings. Notice the horse she walks away with has dayglo green spots on his backside.
Definitely a classic video.

Christine said that her parts were filmed in a cooler studio because when her turn came in the desert, a sandstorm blew through and covered everybody from head to toe (or head to foot, as she says in her British way:) ).
In the same interview she said that they used Fender guitar rejects in the pits, and some of them were never returned to Fender. (Bet Mick hocked 'em.)
Stevie looks amazingly hot/beautiful, but a friend watching with me said she looks like a porn star in all the make-up. For what it's worth, this was a female friend. Sour grapes, or perhaps just an expert on porn style, I suppose. (We're not friends anymore.)

I don't blame you

She does, however, look so good, I could see how someone might confuse the chiffon covered sex appeal for a rawer element

Stevie is dressed like Magritte, correct?

Hi Jake I know I heard that the paintings in the video behind Christine were Maugritte inspired and one does have a black hat on so it could be that is what Stevie is meant to be portraying. I never thought of it, thanks for mentioning that.

You're welcome.
It's an interesting concept to have Stevie painting herself, as if the image she presents to the public is as intentionally creative and illusory as a piece of art by Magritte.
Interesting that a fellow band member is the one to shatter a mirage in the video even as Stevie is embellishing one.

BTW, I thought Stevie & Christine had THE archetypal early '80s, shiny, industrial strength coats of make-up on their faces.
Then I saw the video for Love Will Show Us How.

hmmm...

the quality of the vid iv got isnt brilliant so maybe im mistaken. but u must admit that we dont really get a close up of Lyndsey, u only really ever see the back of him, which is strange seeing as tho its practically a duet between him&christine and she's in it loads. :)

Never seen it, but Hold Me is a great song!

This song was a big hit right? Seems wierd it's not on the boxed set my dad has. Bummer.

As far as the video I've never seen it. But I bet it was when Christine finally got hot somehow when she hit her 40's so I'm sure it's cool. :)

Bummer.Hi Eric... from what I remember reading/hearing, they encountered some kind of publishing-rights stumbling block at the time FM's boxed-set was being compiled, which prevented them from including "Hold Me" (the song was co-written by Christine with Robbie Patton).

Whatever the problem was, it's apparently been straightened out, as the song was included on 2002's 'Very Best of Fleetwood Mac' set.

Does anyone know the relationship between Robbie Patton and FN, CM, and SN. In 1982, he released "Smiling Islands" as a duet with SN; it is one of my favorite things SN has ever done.

I pretty much stand in awe at the way she sings:

I don't need to see you're pretending
And I don't want those lies in bed
It's better to end it
Then cheat on what's left

And I don't want to make you unhappy
And I don't want to let us go
You're the one with the eyes
That give me the hope

I was obsessed with Smiling Islands when I first heard it in '97. I was torn between which of two women I wanted to date, & the song hit the mark at the time.
I went out and tracked down the album, even though I don't have a record player. (That and the 45 for Garbo/Stand Back.) A co-worker made a tape for me of Garbo & Smiling Islands. (Of course, the following year Garbo was put on Enchanted. Same thing happened when I bought the 45 of Silver Springs/GYOW in '91. If you ever want this band to reissue a song, ask me to buy it on 45.)
