View Full Version : The song Stevie and Lindsey were fighting about on All Access"....

From what Stevie was wearing, it appears to me Lindsey made a critisism on "Illume". If you go back and look at the footage on the 'Very Best of', Stevie is wearing the EXACT SAME OUTFIT as in the All Access........BUT She could have also worn the same outfit on many ocassion.....Anyone else have any thoughts?
~Alex
I kinda don't think so. Lindsey actually listed "Illume" as a favorite of Stevie's in a recent interview....
In the Uncut article earlier this Spring, she said that everyone really liked her "Phoenix Four" songs, which includes Silver Girl, Illume, Say You Will and Destiny Rules.
Without more explanation, it's hard to know what some of those things in All Access were really about. It's possible that that argument captured on camera wasn't even about some of the songs on this album. They could have been sitting around discussing something from the past. Just a thought.

And Stevie has also said that Lindsey was very complimentary toward her, where "Illume" is concerned, and that she was so touched that he felt that strongly about it.
My money is still on "Silver Girl," as I can imagine Lindsey being less than enthusiastic about the extremely fey quality of that one, when the rest of album is rather straight-forward.

Very true, Les... and that's definitely a strong possibility.
It could have been one of those, "oh, remember the fights we had about ______? And I just knew that of course Lindsey wasn't going to like it, because I wrote it!" type conversations.

I also thought that she was talking about Silver Girl when I first heard that part. But Les made a good point, in that with editing and putting parts here and there, it could have been from long ago.

i thought -- momentarily -- that they could have been discussing the Dixie Chick's version on "landslide" ... since LB has mentioned that it was not his cup of tea.

I guess that does make since. But I don't think Lindsey would even think to hate Landslide because she wrote it. Landslide is like...their song. Heh.

It might be plausible that they were talking about a past song IF Stevie hadn't mentioned "Well then think of something else!" It seems that that line had to have been working with an ongoing conversation about what to do about a song they were working on. MY money still goes on one of the songs about or potentially about Lindsey, such as Everybody Finds Out or even Smile at You. That seems like the most logical reason he wouldn't like a song and that Stevie KNEW he wouldn't like it because she wrote it. Or it could be a song they didn't even do. But I also think if they were talking about a past song and a past argument of a song, they really wouldn't be so heated about it. But we'll never know until it is clarified BY the members themselves.

Their voices during that part is really funny....they're both such emotional people but we rarely hear their exchanges in conversation...it's usually via their songs. Stevie sounds genuinely (very!) upset, her voice sounds almost like a teenager complaining to her boyfriend, as opposed to a 50+ year old woman! The way Lindsey answered was funny too....you can clearly hear the frustration in his voice..."It's not because you wrote it...".....lol!....can you imagine how many 1000s of times conversations like this must have happened between them over the past 30 years....! This is gonna be a great documentary.

It also could have been "Not Make Believe" since that didn't make the album, and they didn't consider it good enough to keep behind and save for a future album.

Nooooo....:(
lol:laugh: I can't believe either of them were disappointed with NMB - I'm sure that it was a very difficult decision to have to relegate it to the LE bonus disk - and even then I think that says they thought it was good, rather than not. Lindsey's production on that seems to suggest he really dug it. (But what do I know..)
My initial thought was Thrown Down seeing as it caused some problems ... one way or the other it got completely overhauled. The "Well think of something else" made me assume it was TD.
But Silver Girl does seem to be the likely choice ... (I know it got me aggravated ;) )
"It just has that feel about it.." as Lindsey said.

I'd love to see some enterprising fan remix "Silver Girl," like someone did with "Candlebright," and "I Miss You"... I think the song would have been lightyears better if it had been arranged in an upbeat & funky way.
It's tough for me to hate the song, because I like the lyrics, and Stevie's voice on it... but arranged as a mid-tempo ballad, it comes across as a totally "blah" song.
Ah well. :)

To me, it didn't really sound like a "heated" argument, but more of a brother/sister kind of argument where you raise your voice to each other but you're really not all that mad. One of those arguments that you have with someone you know really well where you're yellling one minute and laughing the next. Just a thought.

Gotta be "Thrown Down," don't you think? Given that we have two versions of that song floating around, one of which was leaked months before the album came out? And the album version was much more "Lindseyesque" than the Wall of Sound version.

Has anyone thought that perhaps it was the name of the album? She wrote Say You Will and maybe he did not want to name the album that because she wrote the title song...and that is why she says, "think of something else". That makes the most sense to me...thanks to cour..:wavey:

Agreed. I think that if they'd really been fighting it would not be suitable for t.v. I'm sure those two can really go at it when they feel provoked.

She does say something to the effect of, "He's worried that everyone's going to think this is all about 'Stevie.'"
So when she tells him, "well, think of something else then," it very well could be in regards to the album title.

...would you care to perform a favour for us people who don't have any "access" to "All Access" or to VH1 whatsoever and don't know what are you talking about? Maybe re-construct the "argument" or something? It would be very helpful to understand this interesting discussion. Thank you very much. :)

I just watched it again and I think if it was about the album title, she thought he'd be opposed to it because it's a "Stevie Song", when I think he might have been opposed to it because the name of the song/album Say You Will is kind of generic for Fleetwood Mac. I was surprised they chose that name for this album, especiallly since the content doesn't really mirror the name, IMO.

I actually really like the album naming theory. It makes all the little bits and pieces we got fit into place. I mean, even in the context of choosing songs "Well then think of something else" really doesn't fit. Yes, it DOES fit much better in naming the album. Nicely done seeknpeace!

I was originally thinking it would have been one of the songs that didn't make the album, but the album title theory makes the most sense.
Lindsey didn't want "Say You Will" because it sounds too generic, kinda bland.
Stevie thinks that Lindsey *really* doesn't want "Say You Will" because "he's gonna hate it because *I* wrote it"...and "He's worried that everyone's going to think this is all about 'Stevie.' "
Some very good ideas...

If it is in fact a fight over the title, Lindsey shouldn't have caved. "Say You Will" IS a lame title!

Josh sodascouts and Cour,
You got it !!!It is about that sissy title...not masculine enough!
That sounds right as...Mick calls the music..."Ballsy"! So...Stevie is sitting on a huge red couch with Mick close by defending her!!!Don't for a little minute think he isn't an ex-lover! Mick wants you to think he's innocent! Remember...Their Secret Rumours Affair??
SOOOOOO...
Back on the subject...Mick is smiling at Stevie sitting bare foot & cross legged ...Lindsey is across the room with his ugly white t-shirt on...head back...face red...as they argue about a song! ;)
Stevie defends her opinion! Fighting!!!To intrigue us for the tour?
IMHO: SYW has to be a tad about finances to pay all those ppl!!!
Okay...I rambled enough...your posts are very interesting to me!
I need to get to bed...that big stuffed dog moved!:D Luv Ya, Sky:)

Initially I felt 'Say You Will' was a lame title for a Fleetwood Mac album, but I've actually grown to like it quite a bit.
I love the imagery it conjures, and the implications that are aroused by that title.
I think it wraps up the overall vibe of the whole album in a nice little bow. The songs are all about love... whether it's love gone wrong ("Smile At You," "Come"), love that can never be ("Running Through The Garden," "Steal Your Heart Away"), lost love ("Say Goodbye"), love forgiven ("Thrown Down"), and on and on.
And I think that's where "Say You Will" comes into play.
The lovers have been thru a lot together... but they'll always keep coming back together.
Say you will... give me one more chance. :)

hahahahaha...I totally agree with everyones comments about the title, I think it has nothing to do with the album content.
Also, I want to be sure that you guys know that Cour turned me on to the Title thing...she is the seer in that. I love that the dog moved..made me smile. Been there in the wee hours..haha
