Any reviews or comments about the performance and/or setlist would be much appreciated. The level of interaction is unfortunately very low at Dime... EDIT: Another one just appeared (1969-11-11, early show): http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-d....php?id=352636 Last edited by Arcana; 04-10-2011 at 01:38 PM.. |

Welcome to the Ledge Arcana,
The November 11 '69 show is said to have been recorded in Helsinki and regardless of it's origin, is a must have for fans of the band - A very good audience recording, it opens with three great performances: a slightly slower than usual version of 'Homework' - one of the few on which Spencer's piano work can be heard and appreciated - The (currently) only available concert performance of 'Man of the World' and then one of the best performances of Kirwan's 'Like It This Way' Spencer turns in an excellent performance on 'Stranger Blues' and the encore performance of 'Great Balls of Fire' puts the one heard on "Shrine '69" to shame Green also turns in a very strong version of 'All Over Again' (aka 'Got a Mind to Give Up Living') on the set Zoork 1, As I am unable to access the show(s) on DIME I cannot comment on the show said to be from March 31 '69 - I am unaware of any show in circulation from that date - my guess is that it another show currently in circulation with a different date - the band was touring Scandinavia at the time and many shows were recorded so it is possible that it is a "new" show - if you could provide a set list, we could see if this is an existing show or a "new" one - here's hoping it is a something previously unavailable as the band was beginning to peak during this period -

thanks for posting the set lists - while I have live recordings of all of the songs listed under both dates, I do not have any shows with the songs in that order -
most intriguing is the 31-03-69 set list - 'Please Find My Baby', 'Jigsaw Puzzle Blues' and 'Tallahassee Lassie' could all be considered "rarities" in that there are not many concert recordings in circulation of those songs - of the tracks listed under 11-11-69, only 'Baby, Please Set a Date' and 'Keep a Knockin'' might be considered rare these could well be shows that were not previously in circulation - I look forward to hearing from those who successfully downloaded the sets

This version of 1969-03-31 was first time in circulation, but there is also another recorder from this show with limited(?) circulation. Edited versions of this show have sometimes been incorrectly dated as "July 1968". 1969-11-11 (early show) has been in limited(?) circulation for the last 15 years. It has had an incorrect date of "1970-04-03". 1969-11-11 (late show) is the one with "Man of the World" - thanks for that review as well. There are 1-2 audience recordings and a (lossy FLAC) FM radio version (minus Moneymaker and Jenny). This is often incorrectly dated as "1969-09-24". Last edited by Arcana; 04-12-2011 at 06:46 AM.. |

Hi Arcana, first of all: welcome to the ledge.
Then, I'm very curious where you got the information as to the dates of the Helsinki shows. They have been wandering around for a long time with the "false" dates. Secondly, Dinky Dawsons tourbook reveals that there was a show on 1970-04-03 in Helsinki. How are you so sure the mentioned recording is not from that show. No offense, just being curious enough to want to get history straight (which is rather difficult). Cheers |

I'm not an expert of Green's Mac as a whole but have researched their Finnish concert dates thoroughly. I don't know "Dinky Dawsons tourbook", but I know 1970-04-03 Helsinki date has also been quoted in Hjort's "Strange Brew" book. Being a Finn I have been able to research ancient newspaper and other written sources and I have found that there were no ads in the paper, no concert at the suggested venue, and no reviews for that date. I suspect a 1970 Helsinki date might have been included on some preliminary tour plan and started living a life of its own from there. |

They both appeared on Sugarmegs in the last few days... The worlds best bootleg site.
1969-03-31 Kulttuuritalo, Helsinki, Finland AND Kulttuuritalo, Helsinki, Finland November 11th 1969 (early show) 11-11-1969 sounds good. 3-31-1969 sounds, not so good. |

This was a new site for me as well. If you choose e.g. "Most Listened Shows!", right-click "Download" on a show and choose "save as..." you can download whole shows - as a single supercompressed (10-20 Mb) WMA file...

Link to sugarmegs is below, I hope this copying of the link works.
It's easy to download once you are there: Right-click "Download" on a show and choose "save as..." http://tela.sugarmegs.org/ -Al |

The only way is to get on the Dime train...avoid lossy files. I liked the show even though the quality is below average for the period.

Thanks Arcana and Alan, though I can't download any files there (there's no "save as option" when I right-click). ...
The reason I tried was that I got the impression that the source for 1969-11-11 early show differs from the one upped at DIME (which has bass freq issues). /z |
