Although it doesn't count, Rita also did a killer cover of Only You Know And I Know. Of course, she was on both D&B versions. While she wasn't on Mason's version, she was on Alone Together...For that matter, Joe Cocker's "cover" (hard to call it a cover, as it is so different from the original AND features Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi) of Feelin' Alright is legendary, to the point where Mason has done that version ever since he's been a solo artist.

I know this is a BN song -- but, I think this is a killer version of Crying in the Night. I think David turned me on to it way back when.

On edit -- I do not have it (and I do not know where it is damnitalltohell )

David do you have a copy of it? It was by, I think, Firefall.

Yes, it was Firefall who covered "Crying In The Night".

Country singer Rusty Weir covered two Buckingham Nicks songs AND a Stevie Nicks song on his 1976 Stacked Deck album. (he sounds like a cross between Waylon Jennings & John Stewart).

He covered "Lola (My Love)", "Don't Let Me Down Again" AND Stevie's "Think About It"...which didn't have the middle bridge as was on her Bella Donna version.

You can thank the amazing arranging talents of Leon Russell for making Joe Cocker's the "definitive version" of "Feelin' Alright".

It's like Clapton's cover of Dylan's "Knocking On Heaven's Door", ever since, Dylan's done the song with that pseudo-reggae feel.

Thumbs up

Tori Amos has covered a few FM songs in concert. The one's I know of are Dreams, Songbird, Landlside.

I also ahve to say that the Legacy Album just sucks. I wish someone would do a great covers album that actually does justice to the band. I could see Emmylou Harris or even Sarah Maclachlan covering Songbird. How about Melissa Etheridge doing Gold Dust Woman. She has that husky voice. I think the problem is allot of the songs have a personal meaning to the specific band members so It seems hard for other artists to capture that in a cover version of the song.

There is a cover of Melissa doing After the Glitter Fades. I believe it is a live recording.

Best cover I think is Dreams by The Corrs.

Worst: Dreams by Richie Havens.

Good:

Judas Priest's version of the Green Manalishi

Santana's version of Black Magic Woman

Bone Thug 'N' Harmony's use of The Chain

The Corr's version of Dreams

To each their own...other than Elton's version of "Don't Stop" and that God-awful trainwreck that is Duncan Sheik's "Songbird", the rest are pretty good, I think; although I HAVE heard better covers of a couple of songs ("The Chain" & "You Make Loving Fun" specifically)

This is just my personal opinion, but I am flat out not in interested in hearing anyone do Fleetwood Mac songs but Fleetwood Mac. Nothing is as good as the original as they say.

Do you feel this way about Santana's Black Magic Woman?

The only "bad" version of "Oh Well" I've heard is by Kenny Wayne Shepard...somebody should've taken a sledgehammer to his fingers for that one.

The best cover of "Oh Well" has to be Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' from their 30th Anniversary concert. Not only is it played note perfect, but Mike Campbell's two guitar solos are blistering. You can tell the Heartbreakers (or back when they were Mudcrutch) loved the Peter Green era of the band.

Yes I agree! Love Elton John, love the song. How did he manage to make it sound like sh*t??? Has anyone checked out Camper Van Beethoven's version of the entire Tusk album?? Not sure how to describe it. As they mention in the liner notes...they were on tour in the early 2000's and became fascinated with the album...and then just started recording the songs. The Stevie songs were the most questionable (worst?) ones. One of the band members was quoted as saying "No one wanted to take on her songs."

There is also "Fleetwood Mac -- The Patron Saints of Pop -An Apostilary Homage." Each song is done by an individual, equally obscure garage-like grunge band. An interesting song selection:
The Chain
Dust
I Know I'm Not Wrong
Tusk
Walk A Thin Line
Gypsy
Go Your Own Way
Hypnotized
Never Make Me Cry
Gold Dust Woman
That' All For Everyone
Albatross

Have you heard the Fleetwood Mac songs arranged for string quartet? It's ... meh. No, actually some of it is stirring. The rest of it is shaken, not stirred.
