What songs have the best guitar solos?
Like I've said before, I'm just getting into FM. Over and over again I am mexmorized by Lindsey's guitar playing. I was even more amazed when I read that he taught himself to play ( yay! I taught myself to play too. Maybe there's hope!). I also found it interesting that he doesn't use a flat pick. Ouwwwwwch! I don't know how he does it. His finger nails must be pretty worn.
Anyways, in your opinions, what FM songs have the best guitar solos? I'm proud to say I can play the solos in Go Your Own Way, Silver Springs, and I Don't Wanna Know (I stayed up late last night to figure that one out!). Thanks in advance for your replies. I'm really loving this board.

When you're ready for non BN era Mac, you'll love the "Live in Boston remastered (Vols 1, 2 & 3)". They're "guitar solo heaven".

Lindsey's best guitar solos
With Fleetwood Mac:
1) I'm So Afraid (The Dance) 2) Rhiannon (outro solo on the white album) 3) Never Going Back Again 4) The Chain (Rumours or the Dance) 5) Go Your Own Way (Rumours or the Dance) 6) Sisters of the Moon (live Mirage 82) 7) Isn't it Midnight 8) Tango in the Night 9) Big Love (the Dance) 10) My Little Demon (the Dance) 11) Murrow Turning Over in His Grave 12) Come Stuff without the Mac: 1) Frozen Love (Buckingham/Nicks) 2) Stephanie (similar to sound of Eyes of the World) 3) Trouble (outro solo on Law and Order album) 4) This is the Time (Out of the Cradle) 5) Countdown (outro solo-Out of the Cradle) THat's not ALL of his best...but most of the ones I prefer to play on guitar myself. enjoy!

If you're limiting this to just the Rumours era, I'd say:
1) Isn't It Midnight (by far, Lindsey's best solo in the studio) 2) Go Your Own Way (I almost credit Ken Caillat & Richard Dashut for this one...taking multiple takes of Lindsey's solos and forming one awesome one) 3) Sisters Of The Moon (Lindsey's second best solo on record) 4) (3 way tie) I'm So Afraid/Tango In The Night/Murrow (basically the same solo within different songs) 5) Big Love (The Dance version...the whole THING is a guitar solo) 6) Book Of Love (unfortunately, he just seems to get going as the song fades...just leaves me wanting to hear how this one would play out live) 7) Family Man (uh..yeah!) ALL of Fleetwood Mac...here are some non-Lindsey highlights, in no particular order...even though I numbered them: 1) Oh Well (any version) 2) Rattlesnake Shake (any live version from 1969/70) 3) Jumping At Shadows (Peter Green at a peak) 4) For Your Love (the best example of Bob Weston's contributions...plays his ass off on this one) 5) Searching for... and Fighting For...Madge (Peter & Danny trading off awesomely) 6) In The Back Of My Mind (two words...RICK VITO) 7) Winds Of Change (Dave Mason's best solo on the TIME album) 8) Homeward Bound (Danny Kirwan & Bob Welch's harmonized solo at the end is top notch) Last edited by chiliD; 08-25-2003 at 11:13 AM.. |

So many...
Aside from all the usual suspects, I'd like to put in a good word for Book of Love (magnificent) and Hold Me - both really exultant solos. |

Mystified is much unheralded but has a lovely little bit of guitar playing in it.
Also, I'm not sure people quite give credit to his lovely playing on Say You Love Me. As a guitar song Dont Let Me Down Again is ace. The overall best kick ass playing is on Tango In The Night- how can this have never been played live??? |

Well, it's obvious to name So Afraid, many (often similar) incarnations exist. The Tus-era ones are great, bu t see goes for his snare-strumming exercises on the latest tours.
I also like the live version of ' Come' from the SYW-tour very much. The outro of Frozen Love, the solo in Tango in the Night (pretty the same as a live ISA) as well as his guitarplaying in I Know I'm not wrong ... |
