Default Landslide on The Voice 2012

Wow. This is fantastic, IMO. Unique but still true to the song.

Another contestant did GYOW. Not as good, but she got in.

She has a very unique "sound" to her voice for sure, but she was actually flat a lot of the time. Can't say I was a huge fan but she did a pretty good job.

At this point, I consider covering "Landslide" to be an unpardonable sin.

That said, she has an interesting voice.

^ Ordinarily, I agree. For instance, that generic cover version on the recent tribute album? Yuck. But this one really impressed me for some reason.

with you on both accounts. that tribute album version was drab. the girl on The Voice has pretty and interesting voice, and this song displays it perfectly.

Yeah, I just watched this on the nickslive website. I love her love unique voice and thought she did a good job.

However, its seems "Landslide" is being covered alot on these type of shows.

I actually like this woman's cover quite a bit and her voice is unique .From watching her on the show I doubt that she has much in the way of original material .Which is important for someone with that type of voice IMO.

I've loved many of Stevie's versions over the years and I like how she keeps it fresh by changing the arrangements, doing it as a duet and little vocal ad libs. I've never cared for covers of it except for Smashing Pumpkins. I think they did a very interesting interpretation of it. When I sing it at karaoke I always bring a little of their flavor to it. In fact, my karaoke version is part Fleetwood Mac Live and part The Dance with a dash of Pumpkins. And I often throw in the "take this love... take it" from the Tango era. I'm such a cheese dog.

She sounds like Sissy Spacek in "Coal Miner's Daughter" with all those Loretta Lynn-isms.

I just saw that Voice episode last night. I was surprised to hear Landslide, Go Your Own Way, & a Hall & Oates song, Sara, all in one night. I thought that was a good rendition of Landslide. Of course, no one can sing it like Stevie, but it wasn't bad.

Zeibiz, April 28, 2014

http://www.zeibiz.com/2014/04/kat-pe...10-live-shows/

Kat Perkins of Team Adam sang “Landslide” by Stevie Nicks on The Voice season 6 Live Show, April 28, 2014 episode.

Here’s what the judges have to say about her performance.

Blake loved the layers and depth to her voice. Usher is happy that Kat got to show a different side of herself. Shakira says Stevie Nicks has mastered vibrato singing. Shakira said she delivered a good performance.

It's funny, a lot of people poke fun at Stevie's "goat" voice... But from a technique perspective, classically the ideal is to sing with (natural) vibrato at all times because vibrato is the result of relaxed vocal cords. Nowadays in popular music the style is to typically straight tone until the very end of a note andd then kick the vibrato in, but that's a fairly unnatural way to sing - it's just something people do because that's what we think of as sounding good/right/etc. There's a certain amount of control involved in being able to turn your vibrato on and off without wrecking your voice.
