Cool Breakdown of GYOW

Saw this on Facebook. It's a fun listen to the breakdown of GYOW. There is also an interesting Stevie story at the very end.

Brilliant. Thanks for posting. That isolated vocal is just choral. Incredible.
Well worth listening for the story at the very end. That's so typical Stevie- I can picture Lindsey's face.

Love the isolated vocals part! Only quibble is I don't think Stevie and Mick were "banging" yet while that was being recorded.

Ok so she came in, said she wasn't talking, asked for green tea, and said she wasn't going to sing. Sounds to me like her voice was bothering her. Why do people have to make her sound like a total biatch about that? I am not unaware that she absolutely can be a total pain in the tush.....but I don't get the sense this was a case of that. Sorry.

...and yet just a short time later she sings- apparently because somebody hands her a load of hippy sh!t and hugs her...and guess what- she sounds fabulous!

This is wonderful, thank you. It's interesting to hear the song broken down like that as it's always been a favourite. In particular I love the bass and now have an even greater appreciation for that and all elements. Amazing what these 5 can create...

if they recited the lord's prayer with her and asked god for help and then she sang would that make it better????

sometime's she's a PITA and sometimes she gets put into a situation of people wanting her to be a performing monkey and frankly I don't blame her for not always being in the mood to entertain people every hour of the day.

If that's what it took for her to get it together to sing, it's fine by me.

Thanks for posting. Very good and very creative. Although the strip down version Lindsey does on the 20th Rumours reunion video is just as amazing. The song is fascinating for many reasons. But the biggest in IMHO is the song was finished and the acoustic guitar parts were added later. The song has such a delayed beat that people could not instantly grab the song or where it was going. Lindsey decided to add this extra layer of acoustic guitar that took the song to an entirely new level. When you hear the song without the acoustic guitar it does not sound as good as with it.

NOTE: This is the stuff that makes the Mac such a great band and showcases Lindsey's creative abilities. Notice all the creative layers on this song and every song. When Lindsey stripped down Gold Dust Woman it was almost spooky and creepy. It was also interesting to learn (from the 1997 Rumours special release) that the Bee Gee's song "Jive Talkin" played a role in Second Hand News. If you listen to each song, you can hear the similarities in the snappy beat.
This is the stuff why we are all fans. Such creativity!

Heck no. That would be a whole lot worse.

...and wasn't Go Your Own Way based on Street Fighting Man by the Rolling Stones? Vaguely remember Lindsey saying that somewhere.
