Default Rate the Very Best of Fleetwood Mac!

Rate the Very Best of Fleetwood Mac (the condensed 2002 UK Edition)!

These are the tracks:

01 Go Your Own Way
02 Don't Stop
03 Dreams
04 Little Lies
05 Everywhere
06 Albatross
07 You Make Loving Fun
08 Rhiannon
09 Black Magic Woman
10 Tusk
11 Say You Love Me
12 Man of the World
13 Seven Wonders
14 Family Man
15 Sara
16 Monday Morning
17 Gypsy
18 Over My Head
19 Landslide
20 The Chain
21 Big Love

I'd love to do a topic like this for the longer version, because it contains some of my favorite songs, but I think 21 songs is enough, haha.

My ratings:

01 Go Your Own Way - 4/5
Energizing, upbeat -- a great song for jogging! Better live, though.

02 Don't Stop - 3/5
Not really feeling this song. It's kinda forced happy (was that intentional?).

03 Dreams - 5/5
Beautiful, a classic song. Perfect in any version. Great lyrics.

04 Little Lies - 5/5
Perfect chorus, powerful without being noisy. Love Stevie's voice in the background.

05 Everywhere - 4/5
Sweet song, makes me feel happy. A more genuine version of Don't Stop.

06 Albatross - 3/5
... Nice background tune I guess.

07 You Make Loving Fun - 3/5
Another great McVie track! But I don't "feel" it as much.

08 Rhiannon - 5/5
One of the best songs ever written, period.

09 Black Magic Woman - 4/5
Atmospheric and awesome, the first Fleetwood Mac song I ever heard.

10 Tusk - 3/5
Fun track, but I really don't understand why this is "one of the best" when they have masterpieces like Storms and Over & Over.

11 Say You Love Me - 3/5
I can't remember this song for the life of me, but it's fun when it's playing.

12 Man of the World - 2/5
Boring and slow, not my thing.

13 Seven Wonders - 5/5
Amazing, beautiful vocals, a true masterpiece. Make me cry, Stevie. T_T

14 Family Man - 2/5
Annoying song that is annoyingly catchy.

15 Sara - 4/5
Beautiful and relaxing with a lush instrumentation.

16 Monday Morning - 2/5
How is this on a "Very Best" album... Can we replace this with Songbird or Storms?

17 Gypsy - 5/5
Another masterpiece. The bit after the second chorus is so, so beautiful.

18 Over My Head - 3/5
Another fun song that I can't seem to remember.

19 Landslide - 5/5
I don't think I need to explain why this is a 5/5.

20 The Chain - 4/5
Great song.

21 Big Love - 3/5
OOOH AAHH OOOH AAHH! Hahaha. Sounds like a horror movie.

Go Your Own Way- only 4/5? Hmmm, a bit harsh there.
The Chain- only 4/5? Hmmm, a bit harsh there.

Man Of The World- only 2/5? Hmmm, very hard to please.

7/10 Go Your Own Way
Just because I've heard it too many times

7/10 Don't Stop
I love it in the whole Rumours album but not so much as a single

10/10 Dreams
I'll never get tired to listen to it

8/10 Little Lies
Magnificent 80s Christine

7/10 Everywhere
Again magnificent 80s Christine but like Don't stop it works better in the album

7/10 Albatross
Amazing instrumental but I can't really get fond of it

8/10 You Make Loving Fun
The ultimate Christine love song

10/10 Rhiannon
Iconic. Doesn't need any more explanation.

8/10 Black Magic Woman
I prefer this over Santana's version, and I love Santana's version

8/10 Tusk
Just pure innovation.

7/10 Say You Love Me
Precursor of You Make Loving Fun

7/10 Man of the World
I can't feel it mine.

8/10 Seven Wonders
This song made me love the 80s era.

6/10 Family Man
When hear it I can't get it out of my head but I don't like it.

9/10 Sara
Amazing lyrics, beautiful atmospheric music, the studio version is better than the live one.

7/10 Monday Morning
Precursor of Second Hand News

8/10 Gypsy
Sweetly nostalgic.

7/10 Over My Head
It's not among my favourites and I never listen to it but it's a great song.

10/10 Landslide
Probably the song that I feel most touching on a personal level, it accompanied me during my growth.

10/10 The Chain
Sometimes it's my favourite song ever.

9/10 Big Love
The live version is an even bigger love.

Whoa, whoa, wait a second. You gave Seven Wonders a 5/5 and you gave Don't Stop, You Make Loving Fun and Say You Love Me a 3/5. I'm not sure I can take you seriously anymore. Which brings me to the point I was originally going to make: why is Seven Wonders on that CD instead of Gold Dust Woman? And why is Hold Me not on that cd?

Additional thoughts-for the pre-BN songs, I find it odd that Oh Well isn't on here. I'd also expect Green Manalishi. Why on earth they'd go with Family Man over NGBA or SHN is beyond me. And yes, I would totally expect Hold Me to be on here.

I agree, but you have to think that the Greatest Hits came out right after Tango In The Night so probably they were trying to ride the wave of the moment.
After all this years I have to say that Seven Wonders earned its place on a Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits album.

01 Go Your Own Way 10/10 one of the truly great rock songs of all time
02 Don't Stop 8/10 instantly recognizable gem. Too easily disregarded
03 Dreams 8/10 hypnotic simplicity
04 Little Lies 9/10 great example of 80's pop
05 Everywhere 9/10 one of the all time great love songs
06 Albatross 9/10 hypnotic. It was #1 in the UK for a reason
07 You Make Loving Fun 9/10 one of Christine's best
08 Rhiannon 9/10 a Fleetwood Mac signature tune
09 Black Magic Woman 10/10 now surely a blues standard
10 Tusk 8/10 one of the most quirky hit singles of all time
11 Say You Love Me 8/10 lovely
12 Man of the World 10/10 awesome. Melancholy but beautiful
13 Seven Wonders 8/10 atmospheric
14 Family Man 6/10 nice guitar interlude but curious inclusion
15 Sara 10/10 sheer brilliance. Subtly epic
16 Monday Morning 7/10 Very good but no argument if replaced with something else
17 Gypsy 9/10 so nice- accompanied by Fleetwood Mac's best video
18 Over My Head 7/10 nice
19 Landslide 9/10 iconic
20 The Chain 10/10 an all time classic. perfect
21 Big Love 8/10 Great 80's power-pop

Cant argue with most of the track inclusions.
I'd probably look to swap Family Man and Monday Morning with Oh Well and Sentimental Lady (Sentimental Lady is a really great significant song. Why is it almost hidden as a Fleetwood Mac song???)

But this isn't the Greatest Hits album, it's the Very Best of, which was 2002. Even if it was the Greatest Hits, there's already four other Tango songs on it,no need for a weak fifth song when there's others far more worthy.

Oh, you're right, I hadn't even looked at the cover image on the original post.
I don't buy Greatest Hits for a personal peeve but a artists usually include deep cuts, probably Lindsey likes this song for a personal reason and decided to put it on the very best of.

I'd guess the UK version was relatively heavy on the TITN songs due to the albums success over here. Nevertheless I'm still a bit baffled by Family Man's inclusion. I suppose they wanted (or were required for legal/financial reasons) to even out the numbers of Christine/Stevie/Lindsey songs. aside from the obvious ones its quite difficult to pick out Lindsey songs. Perhaps I'm So Afraid should have been on there as a LB song.

Yeah You're right! I haven't thought about that but here in Europe during the late 80s and early 90s Fleetwood Mac had way more success than during the 60s and the 70s.

Surely the songs had to be equally distributed among the three major songwriters, and being this album put out when Lindsey was with the band certainly he chose the tracks himself; I can't come out with any explanation for including this song other than Lindsey's personal tastes.
