Beautiful Child and Unicef
I was playing some music from my "Fleetwood Mac Deluxe Anthology" songbook and noticed that Beautiful Child was copyrighted to Music for Unicef. I did a quick Google search and in November of '79, it was officially made that royalties from the song would go to Unicef. They were supposed to do a Music for Unicef concert in February of '79, but they declined (anyone know why?).
"Although contracts have not been signed and the UNICEF officials do not want to make announcements before they are, it was learned that others have already come forward, including Fleetwood Mac, whose Stevie Nicks’ composition, Beautiful Child, on their forthcoming LP, is to be a present. Others to be announced shortly include donations from Cat Stevens and Kansas." [Variety (New York) · Wednesday, 17 January 1979 (Page 75)] Here's another little blurb that mentions a photo: "MUSIC FOR UNICEF (Fleetwood Mac) ICEF 8410/UNITED NATIONS, N.Y. (November 1979JMERA Representative of the International Year of the Child Secretariat and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) presented the rock group "Fleetwood Mac" with a special citation for the donation of their song "Beautiful Child" to the MUSIC for UNICEF copyright gift programme. Royalties from songs donated to the programme help to support UNICEF"s work for children in more than 100 countries around the world. Left to right at the reception at the United Nations headquarters are:- David Frost, Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, composer of the donated song and a member of the rock group; and Dr. E. Aldaba-Lim U.N. Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative for the International Year of the Child (IYC), who presented the citation." Anyway, I couldn't find said picture. I figured someone on here might have it, and maybe some more information about the whole Unicef thing.

I remember watching the concert back in 79! I begged my parents to take me to the city for this. I think the record that was released from this was just the artists who actually played at the u n for this show. I know it was olivia newton john , donna summer, rod Stewart, the bee gees , andy gibb, and I forget who else. I wish Stevie would have played that night. I have to dig out my old tape to see if they were at least mentioned during the show!

I can remember reading in Rolling Stone at the time that they were donating the proceeds to UNICEF for yes, "The Year of the Child".
