Question Clevery Crafted Stevie Song?

Which song of Stevie Nicks' in Fleetwood Mac do you think is her most clevery crafted songwriting wise?

I think "After the Glitter Faces," from the standpoint of songcraft, is an extremely well-constructed pop song.

"Gypsy" ...... absolutely, without a doubt.

The song has as much power played simply at the piano with one voice as it does with a full rock band. You can feel it in your soul.

Wow I was gonna cop out and say Rhiannon, but you really opened my eyes with that remark. It really does have a lot of postive energy I feel as well. Another vote for Gypsy, Celestenadia!

I totally agree. Whether you hear the studio version of it with the full band or hear the acoustic version from the AHI benefit in '00.. there is just something about it that just really gets to you! It is definitely my favorite song!

An honorable mention goes to Silver Springs. Another powerful song, sung with such emotion!

"Gypsy" has an ethereal quality. It is simply a marvelous song. The chord structure is more complex and interesting than just about every other Stevie song. The lyrics are tops too... "She was just a wish." Damn, that's good!

I think Gypsy definitely ranks up there, but as far as songwriting in the most raw sense, I think Landslide is her most cleverly crafted. I don't think a whole lot of production went into recording Landslide, so you hear it in kind of (and I stress "kind of") the way Stevie wrote it. But Gypsy is very masterful in its post-production form. Personally though, I don't like when Gypsy is toned down to a mellow, acoustic song. The song just has too much energy packed inside of it. My favorite performance of Gypsy is on the US Festival 1983 concert...it's more upbeat and energetic. My ONLY complaint of the song here was the use of, and please bear with me as I try to explain this, "ooh" instead of "oh" at the end. When you sing an "ooh" sound, it's very hard to belt out, whereas an "oh" is very easy to just cut loose on (or even "ah"). Non-Mac for me would have to go to Planets of the Universe.

I would say "Gold Dust Woman"...She says that the song is about cocaine. And it SOUNDS like cocaine..!!! The fantastic words coupled with the perfect way she sings them....its truly one of her masterpieces.

Gold Dust Woman is fantastic for me, exactly as Seteca says

Gypsy is fabulous as well, my favorite "Stevie" song in fact, but Lindsey "crafted" it didn't he? Stevie wrote it but it was Lindsey's finest arrangement work on a Stevie song in my opinion. Therefore it can't be said that she crafted it. I seem to recall the solo demos for this song were not to the same level as the Mac versions.

I totally agree! It is perfection. It is pure poetry to my ears. It doesn't get any better.

I would say either Landslide or Gold Dust Woman...

And I don't say that because these are two of her most well known songs I guess you would say...Landslide has always had an impact on me personally, and the way the song just flows flawlessly has always appealed to me.....and how its just like her and guitar, and nothing else is really needed to add to that song..

Gold Dust Woman....first of all how many great song titles like this one are around today? The song title and image of the "Gold Dust Woman" is definetely very well crafted and thought of...today many songs dont use imagery, and this song really shines, not only for its sound, but the whole symbolism that I have loved in her songs..
