Default Mirage Remastered: any news?

When, oh when, will Mirage be remastered? Anyone hear new news on this?

I was listening to this the other day and thinking it's been treated pretty shabbily by the band and by Warners ever since it dropped from the charts back in 82. Band members (especially Lindsey) usually put the record down. And as a chart-topping record it could have gotten remastered (and augmented with all those outtakes) right alongside Tusk.

I haven't heard anything at all. I think the idea of remastering the entire Reprise catalogue has gone by the wayside. Next year it will be the 25th anniversary of the release of Mirage. It would be the perfect time to re-issue a remastered version plus some of those great bonus tracks AND finally issue the Mirage video on DVD.

I wish they would remaster it. The songs that surfaced with the Tusk master reels a few years back (That's Alright, Can't Go Back) sound much better than they do on the current CD version of Mirage.

The Japanese edition of Mirage, issued a few years after the US edition, is better. I don't think it was remastered, but the audio was brought up to respectable levels.

I agree.

I bet a few casual listeners would buy it, too. I LOVED "Hold Me" when it came out in 1982 ...when I was 10 ... and a "casual" listener.

Here's the Japanese edition in case anyone else's interested. The files are encoded pretty high, so there shouldn't be significant loss in quality.

Exclamation Too bad...

a similar thing that has occurred with the Beatles catalog being remastered by fans could happen with the MFSL version of Mirage, that would be the one to hear (Those fan created Beatles recordings annihilate the officially released EMI/Apple/Capitol recordings sonically-Ya would never have known they were sourced from LP's) :

MFSL-1-119 - Mirage - Fleetwood Mac (Original master)

"What distinguishes an Original master Recording LP from any other record?

1. Original Master Recordings are exclusively transferred from the original stereo master tape that the musicians recorded in the studio (not from a second, third, or fourth generation copy of that master tape).

2. Each Original Master Recording employs Mobile Fidelity Sound lab's exclusive half-speed mastering process, thus capturing every nuance of sound from the master tape.

3. Quality, not quantity, is the overwhelming consideration in the creation of each Original Master Recording. The number of pressings is strictly controlled. These limited editions assure you that the quality of the last pressing matches the quality of the first.

4. Original Master recordings are custom pressed overseas by the Victor Company of Japan (JVC). Super Vinyl, an exclusive compound far superior to even so-called 100% virgin vinyl, is utilized to achieve maximum clarity and startling quietness.... Super Vinyl also bestows unsurpassed durability to each Original Master Recording LP, achieving a "playing lifespan" at least five times longer than mass- produced records.

5. Each Original Master Recording is ultra-packaged to maintain flatness and prevent warpage."

I fear you may be right. But if they do remaster the rest of the albums, next year would be the time to do it, IMO. 40th anniversary of the band, 30th of Rumours, 25th of Mirage, 20th of Tango, 10th of The Dance - what better time?
