I mean, every time I go to Canada, I'm amazed at what I see on television. I've seen full frontal nudity and a slew of four letter words on broadcast television up there. Ironically, there's less violence up there. In fact, it's just the opposite! Crossing the Ambassador Bridge is quit surreal. In under two minutes, one goes from being in one of the most dangerous areas of North America to one of the safer areas of North America. Why? Because the violent criminals are at home with their pants around their ankles watching soft-core porn on broadcast television!!

Intersting. I thought it was because they owned a lot less guns than we do.

In all seriousness, I find the FCC rules insulting. From the day Americans are brought into the world, we're told about freedom of speech. Yet, my government thinks I should be limited in what I can see and hear on television and radio. They don't think that as an adult I'm able to decide for myself what I want to see or hear. What's free about that?
Hmmmm. Canadians aren't violent because they're too busy masturbating to porn at all hours of the day? That's a bit of a stretch.

Would you like the FCC to go the way of the dinosaurs? I agree that I should be able to watch what I want no matter what, but I don't think network television should be playing stuff like "Pulp Fiction" and "Striptease" in the afternoon or at 8 PM.

As for what is on TV right now, if no one likes it, get off your fat ass and change the channel, IMO.

Thus, the formal start of the "guns are the devil" argument

I say we will never get rid of them and as long as the law has them, we should be able to have them.

Having said that, I think if you own a gun, you ought to have to have to certify you are trained in how to use it. You ought to have to certify you have a locked place in your house to store it, esp. if you have kids. Then, you ought to have to bring all of your guns down to the police station or whereever every six months to re-register it. While you are there, you ought to have to fire it into a device that records its bullet markings. Failure to do any of the above will result in incarceration - period.

How's that for being a hard ass!!!!

Exclamation LMAO!!

Well, when I was a lil Texan, my dad had guns (still does) and he kept them in a guncase with NO lock on it, and it had two glass sliding doors. Growing up, I shot bb guns and when I got older, we'd go out in the country and shoot at targets. Now, I go out with my cousin during the holidays and shoot.

Guns are NOT evil and if people want them, they should be able to have them.

If you teach kids to be scared of things, that's not a good thing. EDUCATE them. Show them how to handle things, including guns, animals, bad situations.

Remember stop, drop and roll? We really do need to teach our kids better. I'm not saying teach them how to shoot guns in school (LOL), but as parents, take your kids out and be with them and show them things. Teach them fishing, sports and various activities. Spending time with kids is how to keep them from getting in trouble, IMO.

Actually, they have more guns, per capita. Hunting is pretty popular up there.

What a great choice of words

In all seriousness, I was kidding about that. Still, yes, I'd like the FCC to go away for good. FWIW, the adult programming in Canada is only on after 9:00 or so. It's not all hours of the day (except SexTV).

My point, though, is that what's on television has very little effect on people's behavior. They have as much violent programming and even more sex and language, yet their society is less violent and the birthrate is very low (some say too low).
