Default Christine's web site

I've just checked her official web site for the first time in ages and I got Universal Music UK.

What is going on here?

I looked up Universal Music & it looks like they own Sanctuary Records. I check it each day and this is the first day her web site didn't come up. I guess Martin Wyatt finally threw in the towel on her website. Something similar happened awhile back, then you contacted Mr. Wyatt & her website was back.

I emailed Martin Wyatt and this is his reply

"Hi Gail, We are trying to re start Christine's site.
It's not that easy as we don't have much to put on it.

I'm also in talks with Universal about re working the last CD.

I'll keep you up dated with any info.

Regards.

Martin"

Reworking the last CD I wonder what that means?

"Not much to put on it"???????

After a forty year career, a long series of top 10 hits, three solo albums, a pioneering role as a woman musician in a rock band ... he has not much to put on her website?

He needs to put us in charge of that website. We'd come up with content.

Why don't we let Mr Wyatt know what we would like to see on an official site?

If anyone has any ideas send me a PM and I'll gather them all together and email Martin Wyatt and he can take it from there.

I think is Christine who is not interested. She is retired

Christine doesn't have to be interested for there to be a website with information about her career. Musicians who are no longer recording or even no longer alive have websites, and in some cases active ones (Warren Zevon, for example). Of course it would be great if Chris took an active role in her site (like Bob Welch does in his, for instance), but it is hardly necessary.

My point is that I was surprised Mr. Wyatt would be stuck for content. Reviews, pictures, MP3s, a fan page ... there is so much content that if it were up to me to build this website, I'd be overwhelmed and wouldn't know where to start.

Question

I think the problem is that most "official" sites are just used as marketing tools for "the latest product" (in the case of the CM site it WAS "In The Menatime"). The management companies that set them up don't really care about the artist's history etc.

Again, JMHO, and I'm sure we could think of many exceptions to this but I bet that's the REAL reason why nothing's happening with this, even though they probably won't just come out and say it.

I would agree with that. If Mr Wyatt is serious about a new site then there would be plenty of things to include.

In my opinion what is required is something that is detailed and informative but low maintenance.

If anyone has any ideas send me a PM and I'll gather them up and send them to Martin Wyatt. If he doesn't want to do anything with them well that will be up to him but at least we can let him know what we think.

If there isn't enough interest in maintaining a Christine website, would there be any interest in some participation here on this website--maybe in the form of a Q&A like John did in the past? Maybe Mr Wyatt could find out?
