I honestly never understood what everyone hated about "Silver Girl." I don't think it's the greatest thing Stevie ever wrote, but it's pleasant enough. Yet many Ledgies seem to foam at the mouth at its mere mention. That I never understood.

Because the lyrics are absolutely horrendous, well, that's the main reason for me. As soon as she says 'lost in a hi-tech world' I immediately wince, and then realise I'm about to do it again at 'girlie girl' and 'she's got a million bucks'.

I think "Silver Girl" is about her similarities to Sheryl. |

I really love the Say You Will album. I'm not saying that I love every song that was included, but on the whole, I've enjoyed it. Without Christine in the mix, the sound is a lot more edgy...and aggressive perhaps. Don't get me wrong, I do miss Christine's contributions, I just enjoyed the different sound of this album. I will never understand why they used the version of Say Goodbye that they did...I think the slower, softer version sounds a lot better. I will also never understand why those kids were included on Say You Will...the sound of the end of that song makes me cringe. I love Peacekeeper, Everybody Finds Out, Destiny Rules, Goodbye Baby, Thrown Down, Bleed To Love Her, and Smile At You.

I dunno, I kind of like that the lyrics are fairly straightforward on Silver Girl. I prefer it to hearing Stevie sing about her "flaming walls" on Smile At You.

I bought Say You Will recently, despite having it on my PC for a good few months, and I found myself enjoying it a lot more than I had before. Although I DID miss Christine being there, I thought it was a really solid album, although I think 18 tracks was a little too much to make Say You Will work as well as it could/should have.
I think both Lindsey and Stevie have three songs that could be cut from the album, which I think would end up leaving it pretty amazing - Lindsey - Murrow Turning Over In His Grave - I don't like this song that much, but the part where he repeats "Murrow Turning Over In His Grave" just really grates on me Red Rover - Couldn't really get into this one, too fragmented for my liking. Come - Again, couldn't really get into it. I think I might need to listen to it a few more times though. Stevie - Illume - I know it's a popular song, but I don't really like it, it just sorta...plods along D= Silver Girl - by far the WORST song on the album, comparable to When I See You Again from Tango >_> Smile At You - I REALLY hate this version, especially compared to the "angry" Mirage demo, compared to that version, the Say You Will version really seems weak. As for the rest of the album - What's The World Coming To - It's a good song, and a nice way to open the album. Thrown Down - One of the best songs on the album, I love the guitar work on this song, and Stevie's vocals and lyrics are really strong, very catchy. Miranda - I love it. The guitar is amazing, again, and the chorus is to die for. I love Stevie's harmonizing in this song, but it's one of my favourite Lindsey songs. Say You Will - I think this is more like a Christine song than a Stevie song, and I can almost picture Christine singing it. It sounds like a classic Fleetwood Mac song, but then it's ruined by the children at the end. Peacekeeper - I love the harmonizing in this one and the "Ah ah ah ah ah" parts in the chorus. Running Through The Garden - The best song on the album, in my opinion. Everything about it works, the guitar solo, Lindsey's harmonies, and some really strong vocal work from Stevie, it's great. And, I know she isn't credited, but I swear I can hear Christine on this song >_> But I think that's just me xD Steal Your Heart Away - I love how catchy this song is, and Christine really helps with the chorus, their voices all harmonize so brilliantly. Bleed To Love Her - I prefer the version on The Dance, but it's still a great song. Everybody Finds Out - I'm addicted to this song lately, I love how it starts quietly but then erupts. It's one of Stevie's strongest performances vocally on the album, in my opinion. Destiny Rules - I love how this song follows Everybody Finds Out, as it sorta teases with the whole Stevie / Lindsey thing, but that's a whole different topic xD It's a great song though. Say Goodbye - I love the guitar work on this song, although I think it's a little too fast. It's a great song from Lindsey though, and I think it really works. Goodbye Baby - I like this song, and Stevie's quieter vocal, and I think it's a great way to round off the album. So...yeah. I think if they'd cut the album down to ten tracks, and kept the best songs, it would have been one of the best Fleetwood Mac albums ever, it would be in my own personal top three (behind Rumours and The White Album) but there was just too much to make it as great as it should have been. (Whew! I think I got carried away with my post there, first post and all that. Long time lurker, first time signing up and posting >_>) |
