Thumbs up Thoughts on Anne Rice

Hey All. I know Ms. Rice's name has come up before when talking about favorite authors. I wanted to get your take on her. She is a very nice lady, and has given me many words of encouragement on writing over the years, but I'm wondering if I'm trying too hard to REALLY enjoy her work.

I started reading the Witching Hour about a year or so ago, and made it around 250 pages in, but had to take a break. I started reading Belinda very recently, and after around 250 pages, am having to put it down for awhile. I'm wondering if I'm just not a fan of the meandering storytelling, and prefer the more blunt direct style of other authors...

Any thoughts on this?

Wow, didn't know Anne was that hard of a read considering I haven't read her.

If you want blunt, direct humor, try reading anything by Fannie Flagg.

Anne is not a hard read, in my opinion. But her writing does requre a dedicated attention span and a love of florid details. The true skill of her novels is her ability to weave an epic tale with many threads that all tie together in an often unexpected and dramatic fashion.

It's not that it's difficult to read, I agree, it's just not particularly to the point!

I love Fannie Flagg on the old 1970's Match Game. She's funny as heck.

I never had a chance to read her books.

If you're a fan of Anne Rice's erotica, then you'll love this. By the way - if you are not familiar with Anne's other work, under either of her pseudonyms, these books may not be for you. This isn't 50 Shades of Gray material - this stuff is filthy and not for the puritan.

New erotica coming from A.N. Roquelaure, aka Anne R

Many romance readers got their first taste of erotica by reading A.N. Roquelaure, who also happens to be Anne Rice, author of Interview With the Vampire (the first obsession with vampire fiction for many of us, too, way back in the '90s). We were treated to a new Lestat book at the end of October, Prince Lestat: The Vampire Chronicles. And now we can look forward to Beauty's Kingdom, arriving from Viking in April 2015.

Beauty's Kingdom is a continuation of Roquelaure's Sleeping Beauty Trilogy, which kicked off in 1983 with The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, followed by Beauty's Punishment and Beauty's Release.

About Beauty's Kingdom (from the publisher):

It is twenty years since the fabled Sleeping Beauty and her prince, Laurent, left the mysterious kingdom of Queen Eleanor where they had known voluptuous erotic slavery together. Suddenly the great queen is reported dead and the survival of the kingdom is in peril. Beauty and Laurent are implored to take the throne and to uphold the ways of complete sensual surrender that have made Eleanor's realm a legend. Beauty agrees, but with one twist: she insists that all erotic servitude be voluntary. She and Laurent strive to rebuild Eleanor's land as a newer and finer paradise of luscious abandonment and never ending sensual pleasure.

Countless eager princes, princesses, lords, ladies and common folk journey to Beauty's new kingdom, where she and her husband awaken their domain, ushering in a new era of desire, longing, and sexual ecstasy. Provocative and stirring, Rice's imaginative retelling of the Sleeping Beauty myth will be hailed by her longtime fans and new readers of erotica just discovering the novels.
