Default Pitch Correction

Hello Ledge People, I have a question for you.

Does anyone else hear pitch correction on "The Dance" version of "Everywhere", "Dreams" and "Bleed To Love Her"?

I don't know if it's just me, but I swear I hear the tiniest bit. What do my fellow Ledge brothers and sisters thing.

Don't doubt it. I hear it all over Stevie's work for sure all the time the last decade.

I'd have to listen to BTLH though...that one hadn't jumped out at me .

Definitely on Everywhere. It's very prominent in the choruses. I had never noticed it on Dreams and BtLH. Are there any particular parts that you hear it?

Yeah, noticeable at times on The Dance, albeit very subtly.. they weren't going full on T-Pain . To me, out of any Mac related project, Stevie's Soundstage Sessions stands out as the most blatantly auto-tuned. Very prominent in How Still My Love & Circle Dance, to my ears anyway.

Yeah, it's not like T-Pain. That would be kind of funny though. "Bleed To Love Her" is probably just my ears, but "Dreams" if you listen very closely to the "Now there you go again, you say you want your freedom. Who am I to keep you down?" that's where it can be heard the most.

Honestly, listening to it now, "I'm So Afraid" sort of has it. Mainly on the part where he ad libs on the vocals, not really anywhere else though.

I'm not really complaining, it's just that I really hadn't noticed it before.

Stevie gets close on Soundstage.. when I first listened, took me a couple seconds to realize what sounded so strange. I've always wondered if that was her call, the director's.. and if it wasn't her call, if she even noticed

All 3 them could use it once in a while.

True. But oddly that's part of the magic and chemistry of this band. Christine and Stevie demonstrated pitch problems for years, especially around the Tusk and Mirage shows. Sometimes their singing a bit flat even worked! Other times it was pretty awful. However, I chalked those issues up to singing in arenas and drug use. Lindsey, by contrast, was far more often on pitch. As they got older, Christine's pitch problems singing live improved dramatically. She was in excellent form from 1987-1991. They were all in good form on The Dance, but pitch correction was used to lend the performances a studio-like polish they wouldn't have otherwise had. For the most recent world tour--well, they're all a lot older now

How does pitch correction work? Is that live or something added later?

Normally, it's a processor.

You sing.....>>>> the vocals go into the processor>>>> then out of the speakers..

When the data is in the processor, it gets corrected if needed.

A lot of ledgies have good ears and can hear the processing.

Thank you for these. I learned a lot about the practice and was surprised to see how it has so quickly become standard/normal procedure in recording.
