I love both versions, but if I had to pick one it would be Mirage.
It maybe Stevie's best video taped performance of all her songs.
Too bad it's edited.

Default Mirage Video Version Of Sisters Of The Moon

She makes up for it when she collapes on Lindsey at the end...
The reason it works (for me at least) is that in this version, unlike in most all others, Stevie has changed the person point-of-view in the last verse (wonder whether Lindsey tried to talk her out of it ala Thrown Down in Destiny Rules!).

So the people are now gathering around the audience not the singer. And since the audience consists of both men and women, sisters and brothers, it's as though the gathering people are saying "be my sister/brother of the moon, whichever applies to you." That's why her alternating between the two makes sense, at least to me.

Tusk is awesome because of the (fake) audience responses and I like how she sings "does anyone know my name"

I wish there was a combo!
Absolutely adore this song live. It's killer onstage.
why would you call the audiences reaction fake during sisters of the moon performance from the tusk doc. tour? that is a true a reaction from her performance from the fans it is not fake reaction from the audience. i love both versions of this song live myself.

I'm pretty sure they enhanced the loud applause/shouting on the video after Stevie sings "Does anyone here ooh know my name?" part because I have that on mp3 and there's no reaction to that on the mp3.
Perhaps whatever source got the show edited out the applause, but there's other applause throughout the song... It's from the St. Louis, MO show.

I think he means that the film & sound are edited so that Stevie's every gesture is accompanied by a frenzy in the crowd & in the lighting director. Audio & video are spliced together in order to amplify the experience.

I entirely agree with you. Stevie seemed a little more comfortable with the song in '82, but Lindsey's guitar playing/sound/amplification simply will never match that of the '79 era. His guitar sounds almost evil on that song!

We call it fake because the soundboard recording of the show reveals what appears to be a truer crowd reaction:

It doesn't make sense that the audience would go so all-out crazy at the parts that it seems to in the documentary version.

Really? I prefer the Mirage Tour video sound of Lindsey's guitar on that song. Especially at the end!

I really love both version's, it is my fav F/Mac song!! I was SO lucky, right place right time, I met Stevie & the Band on the Gold coast back in 1980 Tusk Tour, she was so friendly, & happy to chat for 15 min, it was a day I will never forget...

no, i agree.

if i had my choice between watching the video-i'd go with mirage. the quality is much better, stevie has the wild, crazy thing going on, especially when she comes back from the break. i love after the speaking in tongues, she spins off into the oblivion in true stevie style. and then there's always this:

but i have both recordings on my comp, and just to listen to them..i'm going with tusk doc/st. louis.

they are both equally raw, but i prefer her voice on the tusk doc. i also love the "it's you, it's you, it's youuuuuu!!!" part at the end. it's just a little less....polished, i guess. not a good word, i know, but the band sounds better as well.

Agreed. 1982 was a banner year for Stevie's vocals. But you're always holding out...which are the tour bests?

Aw, this link doesn't work for me.
