I think picketing at funeral is horrid...but Fred Phelps is even more horrid and hateful...so in this case, yes, turnabout is fair play

You're right. The main reason I am a registered Democrat is because I find Republican stand on social issues abhorrent. In my heart of hearts I'm probably more Libertarian than anything, but even that strict platform is a bit extreme for me. Perhaps I could appreciate some of the Republican economic or foreign policy views, but I just can't get past the anti-gay, rabid Christianity identity. I don't think God should be a factor in policy making.
My personal opinion is that the American people get too wrapped up in things about politicians that have nothing to do with policy making. I don't care if anyone is a Christian or not. I don't care about where Howard Dean's wife is (a recent pet peeve of mine) or Hilary Clinton's hair-do. I don't care if anyone is cheating on their spouse. I care about how they vote on the issues I care about.

The thing that I don't get is why these certain people feel the need to butt in on other people's lives. I mean, honestly, if you ( you in general terms) truly believe that God hates gay people, keep it to yourself! I don't thrust my extremely libertarian beliefs down people's throats. Although things like this certainly make me want to. But I'm a libertarian in every sense of the word. I believe people should be free to do whatever they choose as long as it does not hinder the rights of others. I know it sounds extreme, like I'm supporting things like murder, but the key point is "as long as it does not hinder the rights of others." People obviously have the right to live, so murder is wrong. (Sorry, just wanted to clarify that). But what does homosexuality have to do with infringing on other people's rights? Absolutely nothing, as many other issues that these Bible thumpers preach about have nothing to do with OTHER people. But, due to my libertarianism, it'd be hippocritical to deny people their right to speech, so I try my hardest to stay silent.

I started evolving into a libertarian back in high school when we did Grease my senior year, and obviously in Grease there is that smoking scene at Frenchy's sleepover. The only actors smoking were 18, so it wasn't illegal. Yet, annoying little twits like my cousin's neighbor who had NOTHING to do with the play at all -- she had no kids in it and had nothing to do with the production -- got all bent out of shape and stuck her nose where it didn't belong. She's the task force leader of the school. They tried saying that the reason they were arguing against smoking is because there is no smoking permitted on school grounds, but it was all just a power trip because, oh no! Kids might get the wrong idea! Well, you know, it's a play about the 50's, a time when MOST of these complainers grew up, and smoking was part of the culture at the time. So, trying to be as realistic as possible, we HAVE to show that part of the time. UGH! I can get so annoyed sometimes. Needless to say, the girls smoked on stage...just clove cigs, but nonetheless, they smoked!
