Mine was Aloysius. Just a pretty average-looking teddy bear... except of course I thought he was a real person! There was even a distinct short patch of hair on his forehead where I'd given him a haircut when I was... hmm about 6 or so I guess.

Anyway, skip forward to when I'm about 10, and my mum accidentally left him next to the electric heater all day....

To this day, poor Aloysius has one side of his face all burnt, including a melted eye! Now maybe it was my childhood obsession with the Phantom of the Opera or just a real concern for the wellbeing of the bear, but I refused many attempts by mum to take him to 'bear hospital' where they could repair him. In retrospect, I guess the main reason for my refusal was that by acknowledging he could simply have a new face stitched on I would be acknowledging that he was not, or more importantly, never had been, real.

Now about four times a year my sister and I would fly between parents as unaccompanied minors. So the flight attendents would look after you for the trip. Well of course we'd always travel carrying our bears around, and the look on their faces when they saw mine! Who knows what they thought of our parents!

Call BPS (Bear Protective Services).
I do hope you didn't make that poor thing wear a Phantom mask.
