I love the demo's from songs where he is still searching for melody and lyrics. He has lyrics for a chorus here, and just records his weird mimicks with here and there a real word. His demo's are treasures.

You hit the nail on the head. Exactly.
On another note. I don't see the demo as that far out from the song. I must admit that I read many of the comments about the demo first and was expecting something totally out of left field. It was an easy connection to see how this rough beginning of the song was born and then transformed into the cut on the album. I was sort of hoping to hear an alternative version of the song. Something he changed over time.

Well, he changed the lyrics drasticly. And the melody, phrasing of the chorus. And the most richening: he didn't Fade out the solo. Which is unforgivable on the definite version.
