Default My dad's going having surgery for bladder cancer on the 10th

I'm sorry if I've been acting like a complete goof the last few weeks, because I've been hiding my true feelings.

My dad is going into surgery this Thursday for bladder cancer. It's a major operation that will involve removing his bladder and part of his large intestine. It's a relatively new surgery that may take as long as six hours.

I've been really worried about him the last few months. I've seen him three times since May because he's always depressed and never wants to leave his apartment. For a while we thought he would turn down the surgery and let himself die. He's lived away for eight years but thank God my mom doesn't hate him.

I really don't know what to do or who to talk to. I'm worried he won't make it through the surgery and I won't have anything to say to him.

Exclamation Just hang in there...

ok? I can relate since my better other half Debbie had cancer and had to also have surgery to remove some of the mass which was starting to suffocate her (The mass was pressing on her trach/esophagus causing her major respiratory problems.)

So just hang in there and be strong for your Father & your family, ok? And dont try to worry too much...Ya got yer Ledgie family here backing you up with their support.

I'll be sure to pray for your dad, and you, too. You'll know what to say to him... even if you don't say anything at all. Being there for him speaks volumes. Keep your head up. Let us know how the surgery goes, OK?

He'll make it. Can you see him before?

I thought you've been funny the past few weeks, as usual, btw.

Good luck to your dad.

I always love your photo posts, and I love a goof, so I hadn't noticed any difference, and therefore I am glad you told us about your troubles.
I will think good thoughts for your dad, and for you.

It hasn't been that long ago I lost my dad to cancer so I can totally relate. Listen closely to what the doctor says about your dad's prognosis. There's no reason to believe anything other than what the doctor says at this point. Your dad is probably still relatively young, that's always a plus. A cancer diagnosis is enough to send anyone into a tailspin, but it doesn't have to mean death like it used to. Try not to let him push you away unless you can't handle it. Talk with him about what he's going thru if he feels like it. It will help you too. You will also need a trusted friend you can unburden your stress and anxiety onto because you may not want to share that with your dad right now. Familiarize yourself with the 7 steps of grieving because all of you all will be going thru them. Your family and anyone close to him might start acting oddly also... this will be a very intense emotional time for you all, so hang on. Feel free to PM me if you need to. And don't forget to cry, it's good for you.

Hugs,
Laura

I'll keep you in my thoughts. Just tell him how much he means to you before he has his surgery. You are definitely in my prayers.

Savage - try not to worry too much. I know, easier said than done. But cancer does NOT = death anymore. So try to stay positive & just help him in any way you can.
